About Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, and a Fortune 500 company. It is one of India’s largest integrated energy conglomerates, with a presence across the energy value chain. It operates refineries and fuel marketing operations across India, including the Mumbai Refinery and the Kochi Refinery named in this notification. A confirmed post here places a candidate in the NG-2 non-management cadre, the entry grade for technical roles at BPCL’s refineries.

How This BPCL Recruitment Compares
BPCL’s Mumbai Refinery and Kochi Refinery vacancies sit alongside similar diploma-level technician and operator recruitment that other oil sector PSUs — such as IOCL, HPCL and ONGC — run at their own refineries and plants from time to time. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office. Candidates comparing options should note that each PSU sets its own branch-wise eligibility and experience norms, so a diploma branch accepted at one refinery is not automatically accepted at another. Within this notification itself, Post Code A is based at Mumbai Refinery, while Post Codes B, C and D are all at Kochi Refinery — so a candidate’s branch decides which refinery they are actually applying to.

Key eligibility notes from the notification:
- The diploma must be full-time and regular, approved by AICTE. Diplomas obtained through Part-time, Correspondence or Distance Learning modes make a candidate ineligible.
- Minimum aggregate marks: 60% for GEN, EWS and OBC(NCL) candidates; 50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved vacancies.
- Only the exact prescribed diploma branch is eligible per post code. Several related-sounding branches are specifically excluded — for example, Petrochemical, Chemical (Fertilizer), Plastic & Polymer, Refinery & Petrochemical, Pulp & Paper, Rubber & Plastic, Oil Technology or Polymer Technology diplomas are not eligible for Post Codes A & B.
- Higher qualifications are not allowed. Candidates holding a B.E., B.Tech, A.M.I.E. or a similar professional degree — even if acquired after the diploma — are not eligible.
- A lateral entry diploma (after Class XII Science, or ITI admission into the 2nd year) is accepted, with the qualifying percentage calculated over 4 semesters.
- A Sandwich Diploma course, including continuous industrial training without breaks, is acceptable.

PwBD (40% or more disability): +10 years (up to 15 years for SC/ST PwBD, up to 13 years for OBC(NCL) PwBD). Ex-servicemen may deduct their actual military service period from their age. Total combined age relaxation across categories is capped at 15 years.
- Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
Candidates can check their exact age as on the cut-off date using the site’s age calculator.

Selection Process
Selection for all four post codes goes through three stages.
- Computer Based Test (CBT) — One objective-type paper of 100 questions, 1 mark each, in 120 minutes. Two sections: Domain Knowledge (60 marks) and General Aptitude — English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, General Awareness and Current Affairs (40 marks). There is no negative marking, and the test is conducted in English only. CBT for a post may run in one, two or three sessions in a single day.
- Skill/Proficiency Test (SPT) — For candidates who clear the CBT cut-off decided by the Corporation. Held at the respective refinery locations, and is of a qualifying nature only.
- Pre-Employment Medical Examination — Final appointment depends on meeting BPCL’s medical fitness norms and standards. Candidature remains provisional until appointment.
Call letters for the CBT are issued only through the BPCL Careers website, using the candidate’s Registration Number and Password, around 10 days before the test date — the notification does not mention postal dispatch.
Application Fee
Candidates in the General, EWS and OBC(NCL) categories must pay a non-refundable ₹590 (₹500 application fee plus 18% GST of ₹90), plus payment gateway charges if any, through the online payment gateway only. SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from the application fee.
SC/ST/PwBD candidates appearing for the CBT and the SPT (if shortlisted) will be reimbursed single second-class sleeper rail fare from the nearest railway station to the test venue and back, by the shortest route, on production of the ticket — provided the distance is not less than 30 km.
How to Apply
BPCL has not printed a separate step-by-step application procedure or a direct “apply now” portal link in this notification. What it does confirm: the application, document upload and fee payment are all online, and must be completed by 13 August 2026, 11:59 pm. All updates on the recruitment process, including any corrigendum or addendum, will be posted only on the Careers section of bharatpetroleum.com. Candidates should check that page directly for the live application form.
Documents to keep ready:
- Diploma certificate and mark sheets (with a CGPA/OGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate from the Board/Institute, if the diploma result is not already in percentage form)

Should You Apply?
This BPCL recruitment suits diploma holders in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering who already have at least a year of relevant work or apprenticeship experience, since the notification does not accept freshers without this experience. It does not suit candidates holding a B.Tech, B.E. or any degree above the diploma level — BPCL excludes them outright, along with diplomas from adjacent but non-matching branches.
Competition for a PSU refinery job at this pay scale is typically high, given the number of eligible diploma holders nationally against 154 posts. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
The clearest trade-off is location: the posts are notified for Mumbai and Kochi, but BPCL can post or transfer a selected candidate to any of its other refineries or offices later. Candidates who want a fixed, single-city posting should weigh this before applying. Diploma holders interested in similar current openings can also check the site’s Diploma jobs tag.
