IREL Chavara Apprentice Selection Process
There is no written test. IREL will prepare a merit list on the marks scored in the specified educational qualification. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are considered, and they must be found medically fit by the IREL Medical Officer. If marks tie, the candidate with higher marks in the specified qualification is preferred, and then the one who is senior by date of birth.
IREL will use the following priority order when selecting apprentices:
- Candidates from the Land Affected Category (certificate from the Resources Department enclosed).
- Candidates from the mining area and peripheral villages within 10 km radius of the IREL Chavara unit (documentary proof enclosed).
- Wards of serving employees and Forum members.
- Candidates belonging to Kollam District (documentary proof enclosed).
- Candidates belonging to Kerala State (documentary proof enclosed).
- Others.
If the final aggregate marks are not shown in the pass certificate or mark sheet, IREL will take the average marks of all semesters or years. Candidates with CGPA or grades must state the equivalent percentage as per their university norms. IREL will call shortlisted candidates for document verification in order of merit. The police verification certificate is mandatory before joining, because Chavara is a highly protected area, and candidates can apply for it in parallel.
