How this vacancy compares

All 24 posts sit in Tamil Nadu, and 15 of them are at MMS, Chennai. Selected candidates join a unit on merit and preference. A candidate from another state should plan to move there.

The notice needs both a light and a heavy vehicle licence, so a candidate with only one does not qualify. The form can be filled in Hindi, English or Tamil. The theory paper is set in English, Hindi and the local language.

Compared with a driver post that needs one licence class, India Post Driver Recruitment has a narrower pool of eligible candidates. It also adds a heavy vehicle driving test. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.

Selection process

Selection in India Post Driver Recruitment has two stages, based on Annexure-I of the notice. The department allots selected candidates to units with vacancies, on merit and preference. It issues hall permits only to eligible candidates.

  1. Stage I, theory test. Multiple-choice paper of 80 marks and 90 minutes. Only candidates who qualify here move to Stage II.
  2. Stage II, practical test. 20 marks in two papers. Paper I covers motor mechanism for 10 marks in 20 minutes. Paper II tests heavy motor vehicle driving for 10 marks in 20 minutes.
  3. Final merit list. The department ranks candidates on total marks from both stages. Only candidates who qualify in each Stage II paper are considered.

The number of candidates declared successful equals the vacancies in each category. The department keeps no wait list. A vacancy caused by non-joining goes to the next candidate in merit only after the selected candidate refuses or declines the offer. The probation period is 2 years.

The minimum applies to each paper. The lower standards for reserved categories apply only where reservation exists for that category.

Should you apply?

The post suits candidates who hold a valid light and heavy motor vehicle licence and have three years of driving experience. The Class 10 requirement keeps the education bar low. Many working drivers can meet it, so competition for 24 posts across the circle is likely to be tough. Candidates without both licences can browse the latest jobs across India.

The job carries a Level 2 pay scale with admissible allowances and a two-year probation. All posts are in Tamil Nadu, so candidates from other states must be ready to relocate.

The offline process leaves little room for error. A missing signature or self-attestation leads to rejection, and the Chennai office must receive the Speed Post by the deadline. Candidates should apply for India Post Driver Recruitment only if they meet every licence and experience condition. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
