About the organisation
Airports Authority of India is a Schedule ‘A’ Miniratna Category-1 public sector enterprise, formed by an Act of Parliament. It came into existence on 1 April 1995 through the merger of the erstwhile National Airports Authority and the International Airports Authority of India. AAI is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing India’s civil aviation infrastructure, both on the ground and in the airspace. NSCBI Airport, Kolkata is one of its major international airports, making an apprenticeship here a chance to train inside live airport operations.

Apprenticing at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
NSCBI Airport sits within Kolkata city and is connected to the rest of West Bengal by road, rail and the Kolkata Metro network, which makes daily commuting workable for candidates based in and around the city. Since this apprenticeship is open only to candidates domiciled in West Bengal, it sits apart from the many all-India AAI apprenticeship drives at other airports, where applicants compete with candidates from across the country. For engineering and ITI candidates already in West Bengal, a state-restricted PSU apprenticeship close to home is comparatively easier to reach than a posting at an airport outside the state.

Should you apply?
This apprenticeship suits Engineering graduates, diploma holders and ITI-trained candidates from West Bengal who want one year of practical, on-the-job exposure inside a working international airport, run by a central government PSU. It does not suit candidates from outside West Bengal, since domicile of the state is a strict eligibility condition, nor candidates already holding a year or more of post-qualification work or apprenticeship experience.
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office. Because eligibility is restricted to West Bengal domicile holders, competition here is narrower than in an all-India AAI apprenticeship drive, though a PSU airport apprenticeship close to home is still likely to draw strong interest from engineering and ITI candidates across the state.
The clearest trade-off is that this is training, not a job: the notification states plainly that AAI is under no obligation to offer regular or contractual employment after the apprenticeship ends, and candidates have no right to claim one on this basis. The stipend, ranging from ₹9,600 to ₹15,000 a month depending on the post, covers the training period only. Candidates who value structured, hands-on experience at a major PSU — to strengthen a resume or a future government job application — are the best fit; those looking for guaranteed employment should treat this as training experience, not a career entry point.
