Domicile and eligible districts
A candidate can apply for a work centre only if he or she is a resident (domicile) of, or has obtained the requisite qualification from, an eligible district listed for that centre in Annexure 1 of the notice.

The Kolkata work centre covers all districts of West Bengal and Odisha, so candidates from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and the rest of North Bengal fall under it. Kolkata has 34 seats in 7 trades. Sikkim does not appear in Annexure 1 of the ONGC apprentice recruitment notice, so a Sikkim resident can apply only if the qualification came from an eligible district of a work centre. In the North East, Jorhat, Nazira and Sivasagar, and Silchar take all districts of Assam, and Agartala takes all districts of Tripura. North Bengal candidates can reach Kolkata by rail and road.
Age limit
The age limit for ONGC apprentice recruitment is 18 to 24 years as on 29 November 2026. The date of birth must fall between 29 November 2002 and 29 November 2008. Candidates can check their age on the age calculator tool before applying.

Vocational trade certificates must come from ITIs or technical institutions recognised by the State Board of Technical Education (SBTE) or the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). A Wireman trade certificate is not accepted where the Electrician trade is required. Qualifications acquired through DEC are accepted. B.A., B.Com, B.B.A., B.E. and B.Tech degrees must be recognised by UGC or AICTE.
Who cannot apply
- Candidates who have already done an apprenticeship, or are doing one, under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- Candidates with one year or more of training or job experience after the prescribed qualification cannot be engaged as Technician Apprentices.
- Candidates who completed three years after passing the qualifying examination as on 29 November 2026.
- Candidates whose application is incomplete or does not meet the eligibility rules. ONGC treats these as rejected.
If the mark sheet does not show the result date, the candidate must submit a certificate with that date from the Principal of the institute at document verification.

Selection process
ONGC apprentice recruitment 2026 runs on merit. The notice lists no written test or interview. A provisional merit list is made from marks in the qualifying examination, separately for each trade and work centre.
- ONGC downloads the applications from the NAPS and NATS portals and sorts them by trade, qualification and work centre.
- ONGC scrutinises age, qualification, relaxation and scheme eligibility.
- ONGC prepares the provisional merit list. If marks tie, the older candidate gets preference.
- ONGC shortlists candidates for document verification in a ratio it decides. Shortlisting gives no right to engagement.
- Shortlisted candidates bring original documents and self-attested copies for verification.
- ONGC finalises the merit list trade-wise and work-centre-wise, with the reservation roster applied.
- ONGC publishes results on ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in and informs candidates by email.
- Selected candidates complete the engagement formalities, including registration or contract steps on the NAPS or NATS portal.
If a selected candidate does not report or complete the formalities, ONGC can cancel the candidature and fill the seat from the remaining eligible candidates in merit order. Engagement depends on medical fitness as per the Apprentices Act, 1961. Canvassing of any kind disqualifies a candidate.

How to apply
ONGC accepts online applications only for ONGC apprentice recruitment 2026. Hard copy, post and hand submissions are not accepted. The portal accepts applications from 29 October 2026, and the last date is 20 November 2026.
Step 1: Check eligibility and choose a centre
- Read the age, qualification and Annexure 1 district rules above.
- Choose one sector, one work centre and one trade.
- Note whether the trade is marked NAPS or NATS.
Step 2: Apply for NAPS trades
- Register on the NAPS portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
- Enter registration details, qualifications and personal particulars correctly.
- Submit the application for the chosen ONGC trade and work centre before the last date.
Step 3: Apply for NATS trades
- Register on the NATS portal at nats.education.gov.in, run by the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BOAT).
- Fill in all details accurately.
- Submit the application for the chosen ONGC trade and work centre before the last date.

ONGC can extend the application date for ONGC apprentice recruitment if it receives too few applications or too few suitable candidates.
After the training period
ONGC has no obligation to offer regular employment during or after the apprenticeship. After successful completion, apprentices are relieved from their work area, and the engagement gives no right to a regular ONGC job.

Should you apply?
The ONGC apprentice recruitment suits fresh ITI holders, diploma holders and graduates who want 12 months of training at a large public sector company and live in or near an eligible district. Marks in the qualifying examination decide the merit list, so candidates with strong marks in their trade have the best chance.
It does not suit candidates who need a regular salaried job, since the stipend is not a salary and no job follows. The district rule also limits the choice of work centre, and ONGC pays no travel or lodging. Candidates from outside these states can browse the latest jobs across India.
