MECL Online Exam 2026 Guidelines – Call Letter, ID Proof & Centre Rules

Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) has published the instructions for its online examination on its official website. The official MECL instructions for the online examination cover call letter download, photo identity proof, examination centre rules and the online application process.

MECL calls the admit card a call letter. Candidates can download it from www.mecl.co.in using their registration number or roll number, and their password or date of birth. MECL also sends the download intimation by email and SMS. This notice does not give a call letter release date or an examination date. There is no separate exam city intimation slip and no region-wise release. Candidates should check all details in the article below.

How to download the MECL call letter

1. Wait for the download intimation. MECL sends it by email and SMS.
2. Visit the official MECL website at www.mecl.co.in.
3. Click the relevant call letter link. The download window then opens.
4. Enter the registration number or roll number.
5. Enter the password or date of birth.
6. Download the call letter.
7. Affix a recent recognisable photograph on the call letter. It should preferably be the same photograph given during registration.
8. Take a photocopy of the photo identity proof that will be carried in original.

Candidates should print the call letter rather than keep it only on a phone. A printed copy also leaves room for the photograph the notice asks them to affix. This is added context, not part of the official notice. Confirm with the official website.

Exam duration and time at the centre

The online examination runs for two hours. MECL states that candidates may need to be at the venue for about four hours. That extra time covers verification, collection of documents, logging in and reading of instructions.

Each call letter carries its own reporting time. That time falls before the start time of the test. Candidates reporting after it will not be permitted to take the examination.

Details to check on your call letter

Candidates should check these fields as soon as the call letter is downloaded.

• Name, spelt exactly as it appears on the photo identity proof
• Photograph and signature
• Date of birth
• Post applied for
• Examination date, session and reporting time
• Examination venue address

The name on the call letter must match the name on the photo identity proof exactly. If the two do not match, the candidate will not be allowed to appear. Female candidates who changed their first, middle or last name after marriage should check this first.

Candidates who have changed their name are allowed only if they produce an original gazette notification, an original marriage certificate or an affidavit in original.

The signature on the attendance sheet and on the call letter, signed at the examination, must match the signature uploaded during the application. A mismatch leads to disqualification.

This notice gives no correction window for call letter details. It states that no request for change of centre, venue, date or session will be entertained. It also states that MECL will not entertain correspondence or personal enquiries on recruitment matters. No helpdesk email or phone number is mentioned in the official notice.

Documents to carry

• Call letter, printed, with a recent recognizable photograph affixed
• Original photo identity proof, currently valid, in the same name as the call letter
• Photocopy of the same photo identity proof that is brought in original

All three are mandatory. The notice states that candidates who do not produce them will not be allowed to take the examination or the interview. The same rule applies again at the interview stage.

Photo identity proof accepted

The notice accepts any one of the following, in original:

• PAN Card
• Passport
• Permanent Driving Licence
• Voter’s Card
• Bank Passbook with photograph
• Photo identity proof issued by a gazetted officer on official letterhead, with photograph
• Photo identity proof issued by a people’s representative on official letterhead, with photograph
• Valid recent identity card issued by a recognised college or university
• Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar card with a photograph
• Employee ID
• Bar Council identity card with photograph

Ration Card and Learner’s Driving Licence are not valid identity proofs. The document is handed to the invigilator for verification. If the identity of a candidate is in doubt, the candidate may not be allowed to appear.

Prohibited items and examination centre rules

Electronic devices and unfair means

Carrying a mobile phone or a similar electronic communication device into the examination or interview hall is treated as misconduct. The notice lists the following as misconduct:

• Using unfair means
• Impersonating, or getting another person to impersonate
• Misbehaving in the examination or interview hall
• Disclosing, publishing, reproducing, transmitting or storing the contents of the test, in whole or in part, in any form
• Any irregular or improper means connected with the candidature
• Getting support for the candidature by unfair means
• Carrying mobile phones or similar electronic communication devices into the hall

A candidate found guilty may face criminal prosecution. The notice also allows disqualification from the examination, debarment permanently or for a fixed period from future examinations, and termination of service if the candidate has already joined.

Giving false, tampered or fabricated particulars carries the same outcome. Such a candidate is disqualified and barred from any MECL recruitment process in the future. If the matter comes to light later, the disqualification applies with retrospective effect.

A candidate may appear only once in the online examination for a post. Multiple appearances lead to cancellation of candidature. If more than one call letter has been generated, the candidate should appear only once for one post, on the date and time shown on that call letter.

Centre rules

1. The examination is conducted online at the venue given on each call letter.
2. No request for change of centre, venue, date or session will be entertained.
3. MECL may cancel any examination centre or add other centres at its discretion.
4. MECL may allot a candidate to a centre other than the one opted for.
5. Candidates appear at their own risk and expense. MECL is not responsible for any injury or loss.
6. The choice of centre, once exercised, is final.

If too few candidates opt for a centre, MECL may allot them an adjunct centre. If the number of candidates is more than the capacity of a centre, MECL may allot another centre.

If the test is disrupted

The notice accepts that problems can occur during the examination. In that event MECL will try to fix the problem, which may include moving candidates or delaying the test. A re-examination is at the absolute discretion of the test conducting body, and candidates have no claim to a re-test. Candidates who refuse to move, or refuse to take part in the delayed test, are summarily rejected from the process.

Rules for candidates using a scribe

Visually impaired candidates, and candidates whose writing speed is permanently affected, may use their own scribe during the online examination.

• The candidate arranges the scribe and bears the cost.
• The scribe must not be a candidate for the same examination. If this is found at any stage, both candidatures are cancelled.
• A person acting as scribe for one candidate cannot be a scribe for another candidate.
• Candidates who want a scribe must state this in the online application form. A later request may not be accepted.
• The scribe may be from any academic stream. For Specialist Officers’ posts, the scribe should be from a stream different from the one prescribed for the post.
• Both the candidate and the scribe must give an undertaking that the scribe meets the rules above.
• The scribe must not answer on his or her own. If this is seen during the exam, the session is terminated and the candidature is cancelled.

Candidates using a scribe get compensatory time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination, or as otherwise advised. Compensatory time is system-based. Only candidates registered for it during the application get the concession.

Candidates with locomotor disability or cerebral palsy, where the writing extremity is affected by at least 40%, get the same 20 minutes per hour. Visually impaired candidates with not less than 40% disability may also opt to view the test in a magnified font.

How the online examination is scored

The score in each objective test comes from the number of questions answered correctly, after a penalty for wrong answers is applied. These corrected scores are then equated to adjust for small differences in difficulty between sessions. Test-wise scores and the total score are reported to two decimal places.

Cut-offs are applied in two stages. The first is on the score in each individual test. The second is on the total score.

MECL compares the answers of individual candidates with those of other candidates to find patterns of similar right and wrong answers. If it concludes that answers were shared, it can cancel the candidature and withhold the result.

Question papers are not shared with anyone other than the candidates, and only during the examination. They are not released after the exam either.

Application window and upload specifications

MECL accepts applications online only, from 12 September 2026 to 11 October 2026. No other mode is accepted. Online fee payment runs over the same dates. The fee amount is not mentioned in the official notice. Bank transaction charges for online payment are paid by the candidate.

The application link opens from the MECL website, under the Careers section, in the Advertisement Notices and Result tab. Candidates register first, note the provisional registration number and password, then upload documents and pay.

The photograph must be a recent passport-style colour picture of 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm, taken against a light background. Caps, hats and dark glasses are not allowed. Religious headwear is allowed if it does not cover the face. Candidates must also capture a live photograph through a webcam or a mobile phone.

The signature goes on white paper in black ink. The left thumb impression goes on white paper in black or blue ink. The declaration must be handwritten in English, by the candidate, on white paper in black ink. Signatures and declarations in capital letters are not accepted. Scanners should be set to at least 200 dots per inch and to true colour.
