Eligibility

Reserved posts, reservation benefits and age relaxation are only for original residents of Madhya Pradesh. Original residents of other states are considered for unreserved posts.

A category with no advertised posts gets no reservation or age relaxation, and its candidates compete for unreserved posts. Posts reserved for Madhya Pradesh women can go to men of the same category if no suitable woman is available.

Education and experience

Candidates for the MPPSC Law Officer posts need a bachelor’s degree in Law and two years of work as an advocate.

They must meet all educational and other eligibility rules by 5 November 2026. The experience certificate and affidavit must follow the formats printed in the notice. The district bar association president or secretary signs the certificate.

Age limit

Candidates must have completed 21 years and must not have completed 40 years on 1 January 2027. The age calculator helps check this.

For the MPPSC Law Officer posts, the notice allows a 5-year age relaxation to several groups. These include SC, ST and OBC candidates, women and persons with disabilities. Employees of government bodies, corporations, boards and autonomous bodies also qualify. Only Madhya Pradesh residents get these benefits. The upper age limit stays at 45 years after all relaxations.

Ex-servicemen subtract their earlier defence service from their age. The result must not exceed the upper limit by more than 3 years.

Employment exchange registration

  • Madhya Pradesh residents need no live registration while applying. They must submit the certificate by the last date for sending documents to the Commission before the interview.
  • Candidates from other states are exempt under the High Court order of 8 March 2022.
  • Madhya Pradesh residents in service are exempt with a no-objection certificate from their department (government service) or a service certificate from their institution (non-government service).

Other conditions

  • A candidate with more than two living children is not eligible if one child was born on or after 26 January 2001.
  • A candidate convicted of an offence against women is not eligible for appointment. If such a case is pending, the appointment waits for the final decision.
  • Candidates with disabilities need a certificate of 40% or more permanent disability. Certificates issued on or after 1 June 2021 count only if issued through the UDID portal, swavlambancard.gov.in.

Category certificates must be issued on or before 5 November 2026 by the competent authority of the Madhya Pradesh Government. The Commission cancels the candidature of a candidate who submits a later certificate or false information.

Selection process

The MPPSC Law Officer selection uses an OMR-based objective written exam and an interview. The exam scheme and syllabus are published on mppsc.mp.gov.in.

  1. The Commission holds the written exam on OMR sheets on 13 December 2026. It carries negative marking.
  2. The Commission calls candidates for the interview in order of exam marks. It calls up to three times the advertised posts, along with candidates who tie on marks.
  3. The Commission prepares the final result on the combined marks of the exam and the interview.

If fewer than 500 candidates apply for the MPPSC Law Officer posts, selection depends on the interview alone. For 4 to 6 posts, the Commission calls up to 36 candidates. The interview carries 100 marks. The minimum passing mark is 41 for unreserved candidates and 31 for reserved and PwD candidates.

The Commission treats a candidate absent from the interview as not eligible. It publishes the provisional answer key on mppsc.mp.gov.in. Candidates can object online within 5 days at ₹150 per question, plus a ₹40 portal fee per session.

Should you apply?

The MPPSC Law Officer post suits advocates with at least two years of court practice who want a permanent gazetted job with a fixed Level 12 salary. The work is legal work inside the Jail Department, mainly prisoner legal aid and court replies. Candidates who prefer open courtroom practice may find it different.

The notice lists only 4 posts and gives no applicant figures, so candidates should expect competition. It lists 2 unreserved posts. Candidates from other states compete for unreserved posts and pay the higher fee.

The MPPSC Law Officer route carries two trade-offs. The first is paperwork, since the experience certificate, affidavit and certified documents must be ready before the interview. The second is that the interview alone decides selection if fewer than 500 candidates apply.
