Selection Process
The Board of Practical Training (Eastern Region), or BOPT (ER), shortlists candidates from the online application data on the NATS portal. Selection for NICL apprentice 2026 rests on graduation marks and document verification.
- BOPT (ER) shortlists candidates on the percentage of marks, up to two decimal places, in the qualifying graduate degree.
- NICL sends a call letter to shortlisted candidates to their registered email ID.
- Shortlisted candidates appear in person at NICL offices for document verification. NICL will announce the offices in due course.
- NICL prepares the final engagement list after checking the NATS details against original documents. The list depends on seats available in the state.
- The candidate signs the Contract of Apprenticeship with NICL, and the NATS portal approves it.
Where the result is in CGPA, OGPA or GPA, candidates must convert it to a percentage using the university’s formula. They must enter that percentage in the form. If two candidates have the same percentage, the older candidate ranks higher.
A call for document verification does not guarantee selection. NICL pays no TA or DA for attending verification, and it does not cover boarding or lodging. NICL disqualifies any candidate whose documents differ from the online application.

How to Apply
Applying for NICL apprentice 2026 takes two steps. The first is registration on the NATS portal, and the second is the application to NICL. Candidates already enrolled on NATS can skip Step 1.
Step 1: Register on the NATS portal
- Open nats.education.gov.in.
- Click Student, then Regular Student.
- Click Student Registration.
- Complete the application form.
- Note the 12-digit unique Enrollment Number that NATS generates.
Step 2: Apply to National Insurance Company Ltd
- Log in to the NATS portal with the email ID and password.
- Under “Apply against advertised vacancies”, search “NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY LTD”.
- Click Apply. The status then shows as “applied”.
The notice gives NICL’s establishment enrolment ID as EWBPNC096867. Candidates must upload the provisional certificate or consolidated mark sheet of their degree, such as B.E., B.Tech, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., BBA, or BCA. They must also enter the percentage of marks in the column “% of marks / CGPAx10”. NICL does not consider a candidature without it.
Documents to keep ready
Candidates applying for NICL apprentice 2026 must upload these documents in the NATS student profile:
- Degree certificate
- Provisional certificate
- Consolidated mark sheet
- Aadhaar card
- Bank passbook in the candidate’s own name
- Latest passport-size photograph
The candidate’s name, parents’ names, Aadhaar number and educational qualification must match the educational documents. Shortlisted candidates also carry original documents with self-attested photocopies for verification.
NICL sends all messages only to the email ID in the application, so that ID must stay active. For queries, candidates can write to BOPT at natssupport_student@aicte-india.org or to NICL at ho.pers@nic.co.in. BOPT (ER) has not authorised any person or organisation to act on its behalf. Candidates should not pay any agent or middleman, and canvassing for a seat leads to disqualification.

After the Training Period
The contract ends when the 12 months end. NICL has no obligation to offer regular employment during or after the apprenticeship. An apprentice cannot claim a right to a job upon completing it. The notice says there is no regular appointment or absorption in the company. Candidates can read about other apprentice notices on this site.
Should you apply?
NICL apprentice 2026 suits fresh graduates who want a year of formal training at a public sector insurer. It fits candidates in any discipline, since the notice accepts any regular graduation degree.
It does not suit candidates who need a regular salaried job, since NICL offers none. Such candidates can check all-India job updates instead. Candidates with a postgraduate degree, a year of work experience or an earlier apprenticeship cannot apply at all.
The state choice is the main decision for NICL apprentice 2026. Seats are few in most states, and a candidate can pick only one. Candidates from North Bengal and the North East can look at the seats in West Bengal and Assam first. The head office is at New Town, Kolkata. Document verification brings its own cost, because NICL pays no travel or lodging for the visit.
This is added context, not part of the official notice. Confirm with the official website.
