Eligibility
A single, standard qualification and experience requirement applies to this post — RITES has not set different requirements for different disciplines here, since there is only one post on offer.
Minimum Qualification: Full-time Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technology, or in Mechanical, Production, Production & Industrial, Manufacturing, Railways, or Mechatronics & Automobile Engineering, or any combination of these in part or whole. The degree must be recognised by AICTE and awarded by a University or institution established or recognised under Indian law. Sections A & B of the Institution of Engineers (India) exam, where treated as equivalent to a degree, is also accepted.
Minimum Post-Qualification Experience: 2 years of outdoor work experience in production, mechanical maintenance, or other mechanical engineering areas, gained at a project site, factory, or plant. Training, internship, teaching, academic work, fellowships, and PhD research do not count toward this experience. Apprenticeship training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961, in a relevant discipline does count, subject to meeting other eligibility conditions.
Minimum Marks: UR/EWS candidates (and SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD candidates applying against unreserved posts) need a first-class degree or at least 60% marks. Reserved-category candidates applying against reserved posts need at least 50% marks. If a mark sheet only shows CGPA/DGPA and no percentage, candidates must submit the university’s official conversion formula; where no such formula exists, 6 out of 10 on a 10-point scale is treated as 60%.

Selection Process RITES Assistant Manager Mechanical 2026
Selection has three stages — a written test, document scrutiny, and an interview. Here is how each stage works:
- Written Test: 125 objective-type questions, one mark each, for 2.5 hours. There is no negative marking. PwBD candidates get 50 minutes of compensatory time. To clear this stage, UR/EWS candidates need at least 50% marks, and SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD candidates (against reserved posts) need at least 45%.
- Document Scrutiny: RITES scrutinises the documents of candidates based on written test results and the number of vacancies, and shortlists candidates for interview.
- Interview: Candidates are called in a ratio of 1:6 against the number of vacancies. Final selection weighs the Written Test at 60% and the Interview at 40% (30 marks for Technical & Professional proficiency, 10 for Personality, Communication & Competency). There is no minimum aggregate requirement, but UR/EWS candidates need at least 60% in the interview, and SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PWD candidates need at least 50%, to be placed on the panel.
One practical note from the notification: candidates can choose to appear for the entire selection process in either Hindi or English, and the written test or interview may be conducted from RITES Regional Offices, as intimated in the call letter. Final appointment depends on being declared medically fit.
Application Fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC | Rs. 600 + applicable taxes |
| EWS / SC / ST / PwBD | Rs. 300 + applicable taxes |
The fee for SC/ST/PwBD candidates is refunded after they take part in the written test or interview, once their category certificate is verified. Fee must be paid online only; any other payment mode will lead to summary rejection of the application. For payment issues, candidates can call the helpdesk at 011-33557000, extension 13221, or write to pg.service@hdfc.bank.in.

Should You Apply?
This post suits mechanical engineering graduates who already have 2 years of hands-on, outdoor experience at a factory, plant, or project site — not fresh graduates. With only 24 posts open nationally and a written test plus interview process, competition is realistic to expect from experienced candidates across the country, not just local applicants.
The role offers the stability of a Navratna central PSU, a defined pay scale of INR 40,000–1,40,000, and long-term benefits like gratuity, PF, and post-retirement medical cover. The main trade-off is posting flexibility: RITES can post selected candidates anywhere in India, or even abroad, and there is no fixed office location tied to this notice. Candidates who need to stay in one city or state should weigh this before applying. For those open to relocation and looking for infrastructure-sector exposure across railways, highways, and other transport projects, this is a reasonably strong regular-basis opportunity.
FAQs
Is there any application fee waiver for SC/ST/PwBD candidates?
No fee waiver, but the fee for SC/ST/PwBD candidates (Rs. 300 + taxes) is refunded after they take part in the written test or interview, once their category certificate is verified.
Where will the written test be held?
Candidates can choose two preferred centres from Delhi/Gurgaon, Kolkata, Bangalore, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar. Only Delhi/Gurgaon is confirmed; the rest depend on the number of candidates registering there.
Can a candidate without post-qualification experience apply?
No. The notification requires at least 2 years of post-qualification outdoor work experience in production or mechanical maintenance, gained at a factory, plant, or project site. Training and internship periods are not counted.
What is the probation period after selection?
Selected candidates are on probation for one year from the date of joining. Confirmation depends on performance and on verification of the certificates and documents submitted at the time of joining.
