Assam Rifles Rally 2026 – Vacancy details and salary

The notice earmarks 354 vacancies on an all-India, all-class basis for each category. There is no state-wise quota. Vacancies are tentative and may increase or decrease.

Pay scale and other allowances are as per the pay scale applicable to Assam Rifles personnel. The exact pay scale for each trade is not mentioned in the official notification.

Ten per cent of the vacancies are earmarked for ex-servicemen (ESM) in all 17 trades. If suitable ESM candidates are not available, non-ESM candidates of the respective categories fill these vacancies. Service in the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force counts as ex-servicemen service. The notice does not give ESM posts as a number per trade.

SC, ST and OBC split

The category totals are SC 53, ST 25, OBC 97, EWS 34 and UR 145. These add up to the stated total of 354.

Eligibility

Only male candidates who are citizens of India can apply. Physically handicapped candidates are not eligible. Most Rifleman trades and the Havildar trade ask for a Class 10 pass with an ITI or diploma. Other 10th pass jobs are listed on the site.

Age limit and relaxation

The age cut-off date is 1 July 2026. Only the date of birth and name in the Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate are accepted. The notice says a later request to change them will not be considered. Candidates can check their age against the cut-off date with the age calculator.

The age limit is 18 to 25 years for the four Warrant Officer trades. It is 18 to 23 years for the other 13 trades. Relaxation in the upper age limit is as follows.

• SC and ST candidates: 5 years
• OBC candidates: 3 years
• Ex-servicemen (UR): 3 years after deducting the military service from the actual age on the date of reckoning
• Ex-servicemen (OBC): 6 years (3+3) after the same deduction
• Ex-servicemen (SC and ST): 8 years (3+5) after the same deduction

Several trade entries in Appendix A also mention a 5-year relaxation for Government servants.

Warrant Officer trades (age 18 to 25 years)

• Warrant Officer (Cipher). Two qualifications are listed. (i) Passed 10+2 / Intermediate in Science with Physics, Mathematics and English from a recognised State or Central Education Board, plus an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) course of minimum two years with NSQF level 4 or above in Information and Communication Technology, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Instrumental Technology. (ii) Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics or Information and Communication Technology from a recognised University or Institution. The notice does not say whether a candidate needs both or only one. Candidates should confirm on the helpline before applying.
• Warrant Officer (Draughtsman). 10+2 pass or equivalent from a recognised Board, with a three-year Diploma in Architectural Assistantship from a recognised Polytechnic college or institution.
• Warrant Officer (Operation Theatre Technician). Passed 10+2 from an education board recognised by the Central or State Government. (i) Diploma in Operation Theatre Technician of minimum two years from an institute or hospital recognised by the Central or State Government to issue such a certificate. (ii) Work experience as an Operation Theatre Technician of minimum one year from a hospital of minimum 50 beds recognised by the Central or State Government.
• Warrant Officer (Physiotherapist). (i) Passed 10+2 from an education board recognised by the Central or State Government. (ii) Diploma in Physiotherapy of minimum two years from an institute or hospital recognised by the Central or State Government to issue such a certificate. (iii) Working experience as a Physiotherapist of minimum one year from a hospital or physiotherapy centre of minimum 50 beds recognised by the Central or State Government.

Havildar and Rifleman trades (age 18 to 23 years)

• Havildar (Instrument Mechanic). Class 10 / Matric pass from a recognised Board with two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Instrument Mechanic / Technology / Electronic Mechanic / Technology.
• Rifleman (Electrical Fitter Signal). Class 10 / Matric pass from a recognised Board with minimum two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or two or three years Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrician Power Distribution, Electrician, Instrumental Technology, Instrument Mechanic, Technician Power Electronic System or Technician Electronic System Design and Repair.
• Rifleman (Lineman Field). Class 10 / Matric pass from a recognised Board with minimum two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or two or three years Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Electronics Mechanic, Electrical Engineering, Electrician Power Distribution, Electrician, Instrumental Technology, Instrument Mechanic, Technical Power Electronic System, Technician Electronic System Design and Repair, Fibre to Home Technology or OFC Technology.
• Rifleman (Armourer). 10th pass with an ITI certificate in the welding trade from a recognised institute.
• Rifleman (Engineer Equipment Mechanic). Class 10 / Matric pass from a recognised Board with two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Engineer Equipment Mechanic, Power Electric Systems or Mechanic Diesel.
• Rifleman (Recovery Vehicle Mechanic). 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board with a two-year ITI certificate in Recovery Vehicle Mechanic and a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle or Transport Vehicle Driving License. The other route is 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board with a valid Driving License of Heavy Motor Vehicle.
• Rifleman (Electrician Motor Vehicle). Class 10 / Matric pass from a recognised Board with two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Electrician, Electrical Engineering, Technical / Power Electronics or Communication System.
• Rifleman (Metalsmith). 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board and two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Metalsmith / Metallurgy.
• Rifleman (Upholster). 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board and two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or Diploma in Upholster trade.
• Rifleman Store Keeper Technical (Electrical Mechanical Engineer). 10th / Matric pass from a recognised Board. No trade qualification is listed.
• Rifleman (Vehicle Mechanic). 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board and minimum two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Mechanic, Mechanic Diesel, Fitter, Mechanic Engineering Technical, Automobile Engineering or Technical.
• Rifleman (Welder). 10th / Matriculation pass from a recognised Board and two years of Technical Training from an ITI, or minimum two or three years Diploma in Welder / Metallurgy.
• Rifleman (Mason). (i) 10th pass from a recognised Board. (ii) Must qualify the trade test. (iii) An undertaking or self certification about one year of work experience in the trade.

Serving Assam Rifles personnel (departmental candidates)

Serving personnel can apply only in the 15 trades listed here, and only if they meet the qualification for the trade. Applications in any other trade will be rejected. The trades are Warrant Officer (Cipher), Rifleman (Electrical Fitter Signal), Rifleman (Lineman Field), Rifleman (Armourer), Rifleman (Engineer Equipment Mechanic), Rifleman (Recovery Vehicle Mechanic), Rifleman (Electrician Motor Vehicle), Havildar (Instrument Mechanic), Rifleman (Metalsmith), Rifleman (Upholster), Rifleman Store Keeper Technical (Electrical Mechanical Engineer), Rifleman (Vehicle Mechanic), Rifleman (Welder), Warrant Officer (Operation Theatre Technician) and Warrant Officer (Physiotherapist).

Departmental candidates must apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to their Commanding Officer or Officer Commanding of the unit as soon as the notification is issued. Col (Record), HQ DGAR issues the NOC in the devised format, only after a written recommendation from the unit through proper channel. Candidates must bring the NOC when they attend the RFID based PET and PST. They must qualify through all recruitment events. Their upper age limit is relaxable up to 40 years, only in the trades listed above.

Selection process

Selection has six stages. Candidates who clear one stage move to the next. Reporting for the physical tests will be intimated by Email and SMS only.

1. Online application and initial verification of documents.
2. RFID based Physical Standard Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) at Jorhat or Diphu, Assam.
3. Computer Based Test (CBT) of 100 marks. Minimum pass marks are 35% for General and EWS candidates and 33% for SC, ST and OBC candidates.
4. Trade Skill Test, based on a computer test and a specific practical skill test. No marks are awarded. Shortlisting from the CBT will be about 4 times the number of vacancies (1:4) in each trade and category.
5. Document Verification (DV) and Detailed Medical Examination (DME). Candidates found unfit in the DME go to a Review Medical Examination (RME).
6. Merit list and call for training, by trade and category as per the vacancies in Appendix B.

The notice says merely qualifying in all tests does not guarantee final selection. Final selection depends on a candidate’s position in the merit list against the vacancies in the respective category and trade.

The DME and RME follow the Uniform Guidelines for recruitment medical examination in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. The notice cites MHA UO No. A.VI-1/2014-Rectt(SSB) dated 20 May 2015 and MHA OM No. E.32012/ADG(Med)/DME&RME/DA-1/2020(Part File)/1166 dated 31 May 2021, as amended from time to time.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

The PST standards below apply to all 17 trades. Weight for male and female candidates is proportionate to height and age as per medical standard.

The notice also prints female heights of 157 cm, 155 cm and 150 cm in the same order. Only male candidates can apply for this rally. Candidates claiming relaxation in physical standards must produce the certificate in the prescribed format at the time of reporting for the PST and PET.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The PET is held for all candidates who clear the initial verification of documents. It is for male candidates.

Candidates who succeed in the RFID based PET, PST and documentation are considered for shortlisting to the CBT, Trade Skill Test, DV and DME or RME.

Application fee

The application fee for Group C posts is ₹100. No fee is charged from candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and ex-servicemen. Fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances and is not adjusted against any other expenses.

The notice gives the payment account as SBI Current Account No. 37088046712 in favour of HQ DGAR, Recruitment Branch, Shillong -10, at SBI Laitkor Branch, IFSC Code SBIN0013883.

Point 4 of the notice allows payment through the online payment link or at SBI bank counters. Point 6 says the fee will be deposited online only. The notice does not reconcile the two points. In both cases the candidate must upload a copy of the challan or receipt online.

How to apply

The online application opens on 28 September 2026 and closes on 28 October 2026 (23:59 hrs). Only one application per candidate is accepted.

1. Open the official website www.assamrifles.gov.in once the server starts and download the notification.
2. Click the “ONLINE APPLICATION” option and fill in the details in the application form.
3. Enter a working Email ID and a mobile number that is not DND activated.
4. Select the state, category and trade with care. None of these can be changed later.
5. Upload the Domicile / Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) and the SC, OBC or EWS certificate, if applicable.
6. Pay the fee through the online payment link or at an SBI bank counter, if the fee applies. Upload a copy of the challan or receipt online.
7. Check each field, then submit the form. No change or correction is allowed after submission.
8. Take a printed copy of the completed online application form.

Apply only through the official website. Never pay any agent or middleman for a government job.

Documents to keep ready

• Domicile / Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent authority of the State or Union Territory. It is uploaded with the online application.
• Matriculation / Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent certificate. Date of birth and name are taken only from this document.
• SC, OBC or EWS certificate in the format prescribed by the competent authority, if a candidate claims reservation.
• EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate valid for the financial year 2025-26, issued on the basis of income for the financial year 2024-2025, as per DoPT OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt (Res) dated 31 January 2019.
• ST certificate for candidates claiming ST relaxation in physical standards. Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras and Marathas need the appropriate certificate in the prescribed format for relaxation.
• Original payment receipt or challan for the RFID based PST and PET. A copy is uploaded online.
• Printed copy of the completed online application form and a copy of the notification downloaded from the Assam Rifles website. The notice says the candidature may be rejected without them.
• NOC from Col (Record), HQ DGAR, for serving personnel.

Rules to note before applying

• Multiple applications will not be accepted. Change of category and trade at any stage of the rally will not be entertained.
• The state named in the application cannot be changed at document verification. The candidature will be cancelled if it is.
• Assam Rifles will send all further information by Email and SMS only. Candidates are responsible for missing information caused by a wrong Email ID or mobile number.
• Requests to change or correct the form by post, fax, Email or in person will not be entertained.
• Assam Rifles is not responsible if a candidate cannot submit the application before the closing date for any reason.
• False information at any stage, even at a later stage, leads to rejection without notice. The notice says Assam Rifles will also register an FIR with the police.
• Mobiles and other electronic gadgets are banned within the premises of rally sites and test centres.
• Selected candidates serve two years on probation. A candidate who withdraws from the course or resigns prematurely must refund the full cost of training or three months pay and allowances.
• No travel allowance or daily allowance is paid for any phase of the process. Travel, boarding and lodging costs are borne by the candidate.
• Candidates take part in all stages, including the PET, PST, CBT, Trade Skill Test and medical examinations, voluntarily. Assam Rifles is not liable for injuries, illnesses, accidents or medical emergencies during these processes.
• Any dispute or legal proceeding arising from this recruitment falls under the exclusive territorial jurisdiction of the courts over the place where the selection physically takes place.
• The compassionate ground appointment scheme does not apply to this rally.
• Assam Rifles can change the advertisement or cancel it without giving reasons.
