Marks and degree rules
- UR, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates need First class in the degree from an AICTE-approved college.
- SC, ST and PwBD candidates need a Pass class in the same degree.

- Other equivalent disciplines and dual specialisations will not be considered.

OBC candidates in the creamy layer must apply as Unreserved. Age proof is the Matriculation or Higher Secondary certificate from a Board of Secondary Education that shows the date of birth. A birth certificate from the competent authority is accepted only if the school certificate has no date of birth. Selection process
Selection for the BEL Probationary Engineer recruitment has two stages. Candidates whose online applications are accepted get provisional entry to the computer-based test.
- Computer-based test, carrying 85 marks of the final weightage.
- Interview, carrying 15 marks. BEL shortlists candidates in the ratio of 1:5, discipline-wise and category-wise.

Unattempted questions and questions marked for review get no marks. If the Hindi version differs, the English version is valid. The test covers objective questions from the core engineering subjects of each discipline, plus General Aptitude.
BEL sets the minimum qualifying marks at 35% for General, OBC and EWS candidates and 30% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. Each cut-off applies to the test and the interview separately. Candidates can answer the paper and attend the interview in English or Hindi.

Application fee
In the BEL Probationary Engineer recruitment, General and OBC (NCL) candidates pay ₹1,000 plus GST, which is ₹1,180. SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates pay no application fee.
