Selection process

The selection process for Goa Shipyard recruitment 2026 has three stages. The written test comes first, then document verification and the skill or trade test.

  1. Written test, through a Computer Based Test (CBT) or a Pen Paper Based Test (PBT). It normally has 25% General Aptitude and 75% subject or trade questions.
  2. Document verification.
  3. Skill or trade test.

The final marks combine the written test and the skill test in the following shares:

Sr. No.Written testSkill test
1 to 350%50%
4 to 1040%60%
11 to 2030%70%

The minimum qualifying marks for Goa Shipyard recruitment in both the written test and the skill test are 40% for General and EWS candidates, and 35% for SC, ST, PwBD and OBC candidates where the post is reserved for their category. Internal FTE and Advance trainee candidates get weightage in the skill test as per GSL rules.

Outstation candidates who clear the written test and qualify for the skill test after document verification get to and fro second sleeper class rail fare by the shortest route, from the nearest railway station registered in the application. SC and ST candidates get the same fare once they are eligible for the written test and appear for it. Payment requires the hard copy of the tickets, and wait-listed tickets do not qualify. GSL pays the fare by ECS after the selection process ends, so candidates should bring the ECS form, a bank passbook copy or a cancelled cheque.

Should you apply?

Goa Shipyard recruitment suits candidates who already work in the exact trade. Every post asks for at least 2 years of experience, and the Steward cum Cook post asks for 10 years.

The skill or trade test carries 60% of the marks for Sr. No. 4 to 10 and 70% for Sr. No. 11 to 20. Hands-on ability decides more than the written test in these posts. Many posts have only 1 or 2 vacancies, so competition for each post stays tight. The notice gives no applicant counts.

The main trade-off is the contract. It ends after 3 years unless GSL extends it, and it cannot run past 5 years. The job also needs shift work, and GSL can post a candidate to any unit, project site or ship. Candidates who want a permanent job, or who cannot work in shifts, should look elsewhere. The 91 vacancies suit diploma and ITI holders who want shipyard experience.
