About State Bank of India
State Bank of India is India’s largest public sector bank, headquartered in Mumbai. This recruitment is run by the bank’s Central Recruitment & Promotion Department (CRPD) at Corporate Centre, Mumbai. For a candidate, a Specialist Cadre post at SBI means a permanent government-bank appointment in a specialised HR track, distinct from the bank’s general banking officer cadre. Queries on this recruitment can be sent through SBI’s official query link.

How this compares to similar current openings
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official SBI careers page.
SBI has tried to fill this same HR function before. The bank had earlier attempted to recruit an Assistant Vice President (Manpower Planning & Recruitment) and an Assistant Vice President (Learning & Development) on a contract basis, and that process closed with no candidate found suitable for either post. This notification reopens the same two functional areas at the Manager (MMGS-III) grade instead, as a regular, permanent appointment rather than a fixed-term contract — a lower entry grade but a permanent role, which may suit candidates who did not have the seniority for the earlier AVP-level contract hiring.
GITC, the suggested place of posting, stands for SBI’s Global IT Centre at CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai — one of the bank’s main technology campuses, where the bank’s IT and BFSI-linked HR functions are based. This lines up with the notification’s preference for candidates with IT industry or BFSI-IT HR experience.

Candidates should note that eligibility — age, qualification, experience and preferred certifications — is all measured as on 31 July 2026, a date that falls before the application window itself opens. A candidate who crosses the qualifying experience or age threshold only after that date is not eligible, even if they apply within the 7–27 August window.

Eligibility
Age limit (same for both posts): Minimum 28 years, Maximum 40 years, as on 31 July 2026.
| Post | Basic Educational Qualification | Post-Qualification Experience | Preferred Certifications (dated on/before 31.07.2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manager (Manpower Planning & Recruitment) | Mandatory: MBA/PGDM/PGDBM or equivalent with specialisation in HR/HRD/HRM, from institutions recognised by Government Bodies/AICTE/UGC | Mandatory: Minimum 6 years’ post-basic-qualification experience in Human Resources, preferably in the IT industry or an IT department/vertical in the BFSI sector | HR Analytics, or SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP |
| Manager (Learning & Development) | Mandatory: MBA/PGDM/PGDBM or equivalent with specialisation in HR/HRD/HRM, from institutions recognised by Government Bodies/AICTE/UGC | Mandatory: Minimum 6 years’ post-basic-qualification experience in Human Resources/Training, preferably in the IT industry or an IT department/vertical in the BFSI sector | HR Analytics, or SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP |
The IT-industry or BFSI-IT preference is stated as a preference, not a mandatory filter — a candidate with the required core HR (or HR/Training) experience outside IT/BFSI still meets the mandatory criteria. The educational qualification is a minimum requirement, and the experience certificate from an employer must specifically state that the experience was in the relevant field. Where a degree or diploma certificate does not itself specify the field of specialisation, the candidate must produce a separate certificate from the university or college confirming it.
Job profile
Manager (Manpower Planning & Recruitment): implementing HR best practices in manpower planning, recruitment and onboarding; preparing job descriptions with user departments; end-to-end recruitment support liaising with CC-HR; conducting interviews, GDs, salary negotiation and onboarding; sourcing through talent-hunt agencies; skills-gap analysis in emerging areas like AI/ML; HR analytics; succession planning; and driving automation in workforce planning.
Manager (Learning & Development): conducting training-needs assessment and building training policy; skill-gap analysis; mapping role-based certifications for system officers; building a competency framework; engaging training vendors; organising workshops; running employee engagement and rewards & recognition programmes; and overseeing career development programmes.
The bank states these job profiles are illustrative, and additional roles or KRAs may be assigned to either post from time to time.
SBI Manager (HR) Recruitment 2026 Selection process
Selection for both posts is through shortlisting followed by an interview. There is no written examination at any stage.
- Shortlisting — meeting the minimum qualification and experience does not by itself entitle a candidate to an interview call. A shortlisting committee constituted by the bank decides the shortlisting parameters and the number of candidates called. The bank’s decision is final, and no correspondence is entertained on this.
- Interview — carries 100 marks. The qualifying marks are decided by the bank, and no correspondence is entertained on this either.
- Merit list — prepared in descending order of interview marks only. If two or more candidates score the same marks at the cut-off point, they are ranked by age, older candidates placed higher.
Outstation candidates called for interview are reimbursed economy-class airfare by the shortest route, or the actual travel cost in India, whichever is lower, up to a maximum of ₹10,000 to-and-fro, on submission of original tickets and boarding passes. Local transport such as taxis is not reimbursed, and a candidate found ineligible at the interview stage is not reimbursed at all. Candidates serving in government, quasi-government, PSU or nationalised-bank roles must submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer at the time of interview; without it, their candidature and travel expenses will not be considered.
Call letters, wherever required, are sent by email or uploaded on the bank’s website only — no hard copy is sent.
Application fee
The application fee and intimation charges are ₹750 (non-refundable) for General, EWS and OBC candidates. There is no fee for SC, ST or PwBD candidates. This exemption applies even though both posts are listed as Unreserved vacancies, since reserved-category and PwBD candidates are permitted to apply against Unreserved posts under the same conditions as General candidates. The fee, once paid, is not refunded on any account and cannot be adjusted against any other SBI examination or selection.

Should you apply?
This suits an HR professional with an MBA/PGDM/PGDBM in HR and at least 6 years of hands-on HR experience, who wants a permanent government-bank role rather than a private-sector or contract position. The Manpower Planning & Recruitment post suits someone from a talent-acquisition or workforce-planning background; the Learning & Development post suits someone from a training, LMS or competency-framework background. Candidates from an IT-industry or BFSI-IT HR background have a preference stated in the notification, though it is not mandatory.
Competition is likely to be sharp given only 1 vacancy per post and a national candidate pool, and selection is entirely interview-based, so strong domain depth and articulation matter more than exam preparation. One honest trade-off: this is a fixed Manager-grade role in the Specialist cadre with no path for conversion into SBI’s General cadre, so it suits someone who wants to build a long-term career specifically in banking HR, not a stepping stone into broader banking operations. A candidate without the mandatory 6 years of core HR experience, or outside the 28–40 age band as on 31 July 2026, is not eligible regardless of other strengths.
FAQs
Is there a written exam for the SBI Manager (HR) Recruitment 2026?
No. Selection for both posts is only through shortlisting and an interview carrying 100 marks. There is no written test at any stage, unlike SBI’s PO or Clerk recruitment.
Can a candidate apply for both the Manpower Planning & Recruitment and Learning & Development posts?
Yes, an otherwise eligible candidate may apply for both posts. If a candidate submits more than one application for the same post, only the last valid, completed application is retained, and fees paid on the others are forfeited.
What is the age limit for SBI Manager (Manpower Planning & Recruitment / Learning & Development) 2026?
Candidates must be a minimum of 28 years and a maximum of 40 years old as on 31 July 2026, the date fixed by the notification for all eligibility conditions.
Is IT industry or BFSI experience compulsory for these SBI HR Manager posts?
No. The notification lists IT-industry or BFSI-IT-vertical experience as a preference, not a mandatory condition. The compulsory requirement is a minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification experience in Human Resources (or Human Resources/Training for the Learning & Development post), in any sector.
