About the Organisation

State Bank of India (SBI) is India’s largest public sector bank, with the Government of India as its majority stakeholder. It serves individuals, businesses, and government bodies through a nationwide branch network and digital banking platforms. This recruitment is run by SBI’s Central Recruitment & Promotion Department (CRPD), which handles specialist and lateral hiring separately from the bank’s mass-recruitment exams for Probationary Officers and clerks. For a candidate, joining SBI in a technology leadership role means working inside one of the largest banking technology environments in the country.

How This Vacancy Compares

This notification sits under SBI’s Specialist Cadre Officer (SCO) track, which the bank uses through the year to hire experienced professionals directly into law, medical, technology, and other specialist domains — usually on a fixed-term contract, and typically without a written exam. That is different from SBI’s regular Probationary Officer or clerical recruitment, which draws lakhs of applicants through a written test. This particular drive is narrower: it targets senior technology leaders with 15 or more years of experience, so the realistic competition is among a smaller pool of already-senior candidates rather than a mass applicant base.

This comparison is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.

Annual CTC is negotiable and depends on the candidate’s experience and current emoluments. Suggested place of posting is indicative — SBI can post or transfer the selected officer to any of its offices in India, or depute the officer to an associate, subsidiary, or other organisation, depending on service needs.

How the CTC Is Structured

Variable pay is not automatic. It is tied to a half-yearly performance appraisal (as on 31 March and 30 September), and drops to zero below a 90% score:

Score in Performance AppraisalVariable Compensation Paid
99% to 100%100%
97% to 98.99%90%
94% to 96.99%80%
90% to 93.99%70%
Below 90%NIL

From the second year onwards, the annual increment can go up to 10% of the negotiated CTC, but only if the officer scores at least 90% in the appraisal.

A note on the contract’s notice period: the notification gives two different figures for ending the contract in two different places. The vacancy details table (Section A) states a three months’ notice period or payment in lieu. The general terms (Section G) state a one-month notice period or payment in lieu. This is a discrepancy in the source document itself, not an error on this page. Candidates should confirm the correct notice period with SBI’s Central Recruitment & Promotion Department before accepting an offer.

Eligibility for SBI SCO Recruitment 2026

Training and teaching experience is not counted toward the experience requirement for either post, and the qualifications below are the minimum — candidates must hold the required degree and relevant full-time experience as on the specified dates.

  • Age: Minimum 42 years, maximum 50 years (as on 31 July 2026)

  • Experience: Minimum 18 years of overall post-qualification IT experience with a regulated financial services organisation, or with a technology/software organisation building large-scale BFSI products or applications. Of this, at least 5 years must be at senior executive level, and at least 8 years must be in architectural functions and building enterprise solutions.

Vice President (Enterprise & Technology Architect)

  • Age: Minimum 40 years, maximum 48 years (as on 31 July 2026)

TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) is a widely used enterprise-architecture certification. This explanation is added context, not part of the official notification.

Age relaxation beyond the stated limits is available only to PwBD candidates, as per Government of India guidelines. No other category relaxation is mentioned in this notification.

Selection Process

Selection for both posts follows the same three stages, ending in a negotiated offer rather than a fixed pay scale.

  1. Shortlisting — Provisional, based on the details in the application. Documents are not verified at this stage; verification happens only if the candidate is called for interview.
  2. Interview — Carries 100 marks. The qualifying marks are decided by the Bank.
  3. CTC Negotiation — Conducted with shortlisted candidates in merit order, one at a time. If a candidate does not accept the negotiated CTC, the Bank treats this as a Voluntary Exit, and moves to the next candidate in the merit list.
  4. Final Selection — The top-most candidates in the merit list with whom CTC negotiation succeeds are finally selected.

If more than one candidate scores the same marks at the cut-off point, the older candidate is ranked higher in the merit list.

Practical note: outstation candidates called for interview are reimbursed travel fare for the shortest route in India, or the actual travel cost, whichever is lower. Local conveyance such as taxi, cab, or personal vehicle expenses is not paid. A candidate found ineligible at the interview stage is not permitted to appear and is not reimbursed any fare.

Candidates serving in Government, quasi-Government, PSU, nationalised bank, financial institution, or SBI Group roles must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of interview. Without it, the candidature may not be considered, and travel expenses will not be paid.

Application Fee

  • UR / EWS / OBC: ₹750 (non-refundable, includes intimation charges)
  • SC / ST / PwBD: No fee

The fee, once paid, is not refunded on any account, and cannot be adjusted against any other exam or selection.

Should You Apply?

This notification suits senior IT professionals who already hold a TOGAF certification and have spent a decade or more inside enterprise architecture, especially in banking or financial services technology. It does not suit early or mid-career IT officers, fresh graduates, or candidates without the compulsory TOGAF certification — the experience bar rules them out regardless of other qualifications. Because both posts have just one seat each, the competition is narrow but concentrated among a small field of similarly senior candidates who clear the same experience bar.

The role can lead to senior technology leadership exposure at India’s largest bank, working on enterprise-scale BFSI technology. The honest trade-off is that this is a fixed-term contract, not a permanent bank position — three years, extendable by two more years only at the Bank’s discretion — and the CTC is negotiated individually rather than fixed on a pay scale, with variable pay dependent on hitting a 90% performance-appraisal score.

FAQs

What is the last date to apply for SBI Specialist Cadre Officer 2026 (CRPD/SCO/2026-27/13)?

The last date to apply online is 27 August 2026. Online registration and fee payment opened on 7 August 2026 at the SBI recruitment portal.

What is the salary of the SBI Deputy Chief Technology Officer and Vice President posts?

The Deputy Chief Technology Officer (Enterprise Architecture) post carries an annual CTC of up to ₹170 lacs, and the Vice President (Enterprise & Technology Architect) post carries an annual CTC of up to ₹96 lacs. Both are split 80% fixed and 20% variable, and are negotiable based on experience.

Can I apply for both SBI Specialist Cadre Officer posts under this notification?

Yes. The notification states that candidates can apply for both the Deputy Chief Technology Officer and Vice President posts, provided they are otherwise eligible for each one separately.

How does this role compare to a regular SBI officer post?

This is a senior, contract-based specialist hire under SBI’s Specialist Cadre Officer track, not a regular permanent officer position filled through a written exam. It suits candidates already senior in BFSI technology leadership, with CTC negotiated individually, rather than early-career candidates looking for a fixed pay-scale role.
