About UPSC

The Union Public Service Commission is India’s central recruiting agency. It is a constitutional body under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. Most candidates know it for the Civil Services Examination. It also fills Group A and Group B posts in central ministries and departments by selection, which is the route used here. Local context and how it compares

The headquarters for the two Assistant Professor posts is Delhi. Officers appointed there can be posted anywhere in India. The Assistant Editor post sits in Nagpur, Maharashtra, again with service liability anywhere in India. The two New Delhi Municipal Council posts and the Assistant Public Prosecutor posts are based in Delhi. The Ladakh post is open only to domiciles of the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Where a Recruitment Test is held, the notification lists Kolkata and Dispur (Guwahati) among the centres. Both are reachable by rail from north Bengal and by road from Sikkim. PwBD reservation

The Anatomy post and the two New Delhi Municipal Council posts carry no PwBD reservation. The Commission has marked them suitable for some PwBD categories. Candidates in those categories can apply and are considered on general merit.

Eligibility

Every post here needs a degree plus work experience. The lowest qualification accepted anywhere in this advertisement is a bachelor’s degree, so this is a graduate level vacancy.

Assistant Professor (Anatomy)

A post-graduate degree in the speciality listed in Section A of Schedule VI from a recognised teaching institute. The notification accepts MS (Anatomy), MD (Anatomy), DNB (Anatomy), MBBS with MSc (Anatomy), MSc (Medical Anatomy) with PhD (Medical Anatomy), or MSc (Medical Anatomy) with DSc (Medical Anatomy). Candidates also need three years’ teaching experience as Senior Resident, Tutor, Demonstrator, Registrar, Assistant Professor or Lecturer, gained after the first post-graduate degree.

Assistant Professor (General Medicine)

A recognised MBBS degree under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. On top of that, a post-graduate degree: MD (Medicine), MD (General Medicine) or DNB (Medicine or General Medicine). Experience is three years’ teaching experience in the same posts listed above. Time served as a General Duty Medical Officer or Medical Officer does not count.

Assistant Editor

A bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Mass Communication from a recognised university or institute. A bachelor’s degree with Economics, Statistics or English as a subject also works, along with a one year diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication. Experience needed is three years in editing and publishing, in a publishing house, newspaper, news agency, publicity organisation or government organisation. A master’s degree and experience on publishing software are desirable qualifications.

Specialist Grade II Anaesthesiology and Pediatrics (NDMC)

Both posts need a recognised medical qualification under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. For Anaesthesiology, the post-graduate qualification can be MD or MS (Anesthesiology), DA of two years, FFARCS by examination, the Speciality Board of Anesthesiology (USA), or the DA diploma. For Paediatrics, it is MD (Paediatrics) or the DCH diploma. Experience is three years after the degree, or five years after the diploma.

Assistant Public Prosecutor

A degree in law from a recognised university or institute, and three years’ experience at the bar. Experience as a government advocate is desirable. Contractual employees can get a one-time upper age relaxation of up to five years, if they have worked at least 180 days and meet the other conditions in the notification.

Public Law Officer, UT of Ladakh

A bachelor’s degree in law, professional or integrated, from a university established by law in India. Candidates need two years of actual practice at the bar, certified by the Principal District and Sessions Judge, the Registrar General of the High Court, or the Supreme Court. A valid domicile certificate of the Union Territory of Ladakh issued by a Tehsildar there is mandatory.

Age limit as on the closing date

Age is further relaxable by up to 10 years for PwBD candidates, subject to a maximum age of 56 years on the closing date. Central and UT government servants get up to five years. Ex-servicemen get five years under the conditions in the notification. Candidates can check their exact age on the cut-off date using our age calculator.

Selection process

This is recruitment by selection, so there is no fixed written exam. Merely holding the minimum qualification does not entitle a candidate to an interview call.

1. Submit the online application with all supporting documents.
2. If applications are large, the Commission shortlists candidates. It may use the desirable qualification, a higher qualification, higher experience, experience counted before or after the qualification, or a Recruitment Test.
3. Appear for the Recruitment Test, if one is held.
4. Appear for the interview at UPSC, Delhi, with the printout of the online application and original documents.

The minimum level of suitability in the interview is 50 marks for UR, 45 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST/PH, out of 100. Where a Recruitment Test is held, candidates must clear both stages. Outstation candidates called for interview get the Commission’s contribution towards travel, restricted to second or sleeper class train fare by mail or express. They must carry two filled TA bill forms and hard copies of tickets.

Application fee

The fee is ₹25, paid by Visa, Master or RuPay credit or debit card, by UPI, or through internet banking.

• No fee for SC, ST and PwBD candidates.
• No fee for women candidates of any community.
• OBC, EWS and unreserved male candidates must pay the full fee.
• Fee once paid is not refunded.

Applications without the prescribed fee are rejected.

How to apply

1. Open the official portal at https://upsconline.nic.in.
2. Read the general instructions and the module-wise instructions on the home page first.
3. Create an account and complete Universal Registration. The portal then generates a Universal Registration Number (URN).
4. Fill the Common Application Form. Upload the photograph and capture a live photograph as the portal asks.
5. Upload the signature. Sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper in black ink.
6. Fill the post-specific module using the correct vacancy number from the table above.
7. Upload every supporting document as a separate PDF against each claim.
8. Pay ₹25 if the fee applies.
9. Submit before 1800 Hrs on 2 October 2026. For the Ladakh post the date is 9 October 2026.
10. Take a printout of the submitted application.

Applications cannot be withdrawn after submission. No field can be corrected or changed later. The URN profile has a one time edit facility, and changes apply only to applications submitted after the profile is locked again.

Documents to keep ready

• Matriculation or Class 10 certificate showing date of birth
• Degree or diploma certificate for the qualification claimed
• Order or letter for any qualification claimed as equivalent
• Experience certificate in the prescribed proforma, from the head of the organisation, showing duration, basic pay and nature of duties
• Caste certificate for SC, ST or OBC candidates
• OBC non-creamy-layer declaration in the prescribed format
• Disability certificate in the prescribed proforma, issued by a duly constituted medical board
• Domicile certificate of UT of Ladakh for the Public Law Officer post
• Age relaxation certificate for ex-servicemen or government servants
• Declaration by candidates already in regular government service
• Details of one photo ID card, with Aadhaar advised by the Commission

Part-time, daily wage, visiting or guest faculty service is not counted as valid experience. Pay slips, resumes and unsigned experience certificates must not be uploaded. Experience certificates in the prescribed proforma often take time to get from a current or former employer, so candidates should start collecting them now. Should you apply?

Assistant Public Prosecutor is the post most law graduates will look at, with 140 vacancies and Level-10 pay in Delhi. Three years at the bar is a real filter, so a fresh LLB graduate cannot apply yet. The medical posts are narrower. They ask for a specific post-graduate qualification plus three years of teaching experience in the same speciality, which rules out most serving medical officers. Two honest trade-offs are worth weighing. Private practice is barred for the medical posts, and NPA is the compensation for that. Officers in the two Assistant Professor posts are liable to serve anywhere in India, so Delhi is the headquarters, not a guarantee. The Ladakh post is closed to anyone without a Ladakh domicile certificate. The Assistant Public Prosecutor post will likely draw the widest field here, since it carries the most vacancies and the broadest qualification.
