About PGIMER, Chandigarh
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, is running this recruitment through its Recruitment Cell. Alongside its 57 Group C posts at Chandigarh, it is also filling 3 posts — one each of Group A, B and C — at its satellite centre in Sangrur, Punjab. The notice states these Sangrur posts were created by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and candidates selected for them will be posted at Sangrur only, with no claim to a posting at PGIMER, Chandigarh.

How this recruitment compares
This drive is open to candidates across India rather than being restricted to a particular state — applicants choose an exam city from a list of 13 spread across the country, from Jammu to Bengaluru. One point worth noting for anyone weighing this against other government recruitment drives: for the Group B and C posts here, PGIMER has dispensed with the interview stage entirely, so the final merit list depends only on the CBT score. This comparison to other recruitment drives is added context, not part of the official notice; it reflects a general pattern in government hiring and should be confirmed independently for any specific vacancy you are comparing.

PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026 – Selection process
PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026 selection runs through a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by an interview for the Group A post only.
- Computer Based Test (CBT): Objective-type, multiple-choice, in English only, held across examination cities on an all-India basis.
- Shortlisting for scrutiny: For posts with no skill test, 3 times the number of advertised posts (plus ties) are shortlisted per post; where a skill test is prescribed, 5 times the advertised posts (plus ties) are shortlisted. The notification does not specify which of these particular posts carry a skill test.
- Scrutiny of applications and documents.
- Interview — for the Group A Medical Officer post only (15 marks).
- Provisional result (selected/waitlisted) — for Group B and C posts, compiled from CBT merit among candidates found eligible at scrutiny.
- Document verification — in person, with originals.
- Final selection — on CBT marks alone for Group B and C; on combined CBT and interview marks for Group A.
CBT structure
| Posts | MCQs | Duration (minutes) | CBT Marks | Interview | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Group A | 85 | 85 | 85 | 15 | 100 |
| Group B & C | 100 | 100 | 100 | — | 100 |
Each correct answer carries 1 mark, with negative marking of 0.25 marks per wrong answer. The minimum qualifying marks are 40% for General/EWS candidates and 35% for SC/ST/OBC candidates (applied separately to the CBT and to the interview). PwBD candidates qualify as per their own caste category, and reserved-category candidates applying against an unreserved post must clear 40%.
Examination cities: Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh/Mohali, Dehradun, Delhi/NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna and Shimla. City choice is allotted on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be changed once made.
Tie-breaking (in order): fewer wrong answers/negative marks → earlier date of birth → higher percentage in 10+2 → higher percentage in Matric.
Admit cards will be available for download roughly one week before the exam through the applicant’s login on pgimer.edu.in and will not be sent by post. Results, at every stage, are posted only on the Institute’s website — candidates are not individually informed.
Application fee
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| PwBD | Exempted |
| SC/ST | ₹800 + transaction charges |
| General/OBC/EWS | ₹1,500 + transaction charges |
Fee is payable only online through Net Banking, Debit Card or Credit Card at the application portal; the notice advises candidates to avoid paying through UPI. Candidates applying for more than one post must pay the fee separately for each post.

Should you apply for PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026?
PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026 suits a wide range of candidates. Most of the vacancies — 54 of the 60 — are for Multi-Tasking Staff (Sanitation) Grade-III, open to anyone with Matriculation and no prior experience required, making it accessible to a large pool of applicants. At the other end, the Medical Officer and Computer Programmer posts need specific professional qualifications and, for the Computer Programmer role, real programming experience.
A practical trade-off worth weighing: the 3 posts at the Sangrur satellite centre come with no claim to a Chandigarh posting even after selection, so candidates should be comfortable with Punjab as their base before applying for those. For the Chandigarh Group C posts, there is no interview — your CBT score alone decides selection — which some candidates find more predictable to prepare for than a multi-round process, though it also means there is no scope to make up ground with a strong interview if your written score falls short. Given that PGIMER is a well-known national medical institute and the entry qualification for most posts here is only Matriculation, competition for the MTS and similar posts is likely to be considerable; this is a general judgement, not a figure from the official notice, and is not a substitute for checking the actual number of applicants once registration closes.
FAQs
What is the last date to apply for PGIMER Chandigarh Recruitment 2026?
The online application closes on 19 October 2026. This is also the crucial date for determining age, qualification and experience eligibility.
How many vacancies are there in PGIMER Recruitment 2026?
There are 60 vacancies in total — 57 Group C posts at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and 3 posts (Group A, B and C) at the PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur, Punjab.
Is there an interview for PGIMER Group C posts in this recruitment?
No. The Government of India has dispensed with the interview for Group B and C posts in this recruitment. Candidates for these posts are selected purely on their Computer-Based Test score. Only the Group A Medical Officer post carries an interview, worth 15 of the 100 total marks.
Do PGIMER Group C employees get promotions to higher posts later?
The official notice does not cover the post-recruitment promotion policy. In central government institutes generally, support-staff employees become eligible for time-bound promotions after completing prescribed years of service, under departmental rules. This is added context, not part of the official notification — confirm current promotion norms directly with PGIMER before relying on it.
