SAIL CMLO Recruitment 2026

The Rourkela Steel Plant office in Rourkela, Odisha issued this advertisement. The Young Professionals will work at the captive mines under OGoM.

Local context and how it compares

Candidates may be posted at any of the four mines and must be present at the workplace on a regular basis. Outstation candidates can request company accommodation at the place of posting. For the first 3 months, they may stay at a SAIL Guest House or Transit House at ₹200 a day, subject to availability.

Compared with a regular SAIL job, this is a retainership contract. It carries no provident fund, pension or gratuity, and it gives no claim to a permanent post. The SAIL CMLO recruitment therefore suits candidates who want contract work, not a permanent job.

Mine sites are usually away from large towns, so candidates should confirm the posting location with the hiring office.

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.

Selection process

Every SAIL CMLO recruitment application goes first to the Screening Committee, which checks it against the eligibility rules. Selection to each grade then happens through a Computer Based Test (CBT) and Personal Interaction, or through Personal Interaction only. SAIL informs eligible candidates through the admit card or call letter, email, SMS and its website.

  1. The Screening Committee shortlists applications that meet the eligibility rules.
  2. The CBT has 100 multiple-choice questions, 50 on technical or professional knowledge and 50 on aptitude. It runs for 90 minutes.
  3. Candidates go to Personal Interaction in order of merit, at a ratio of 1:3 for each grade. All candidates tied at the cut-off marks are called.
  4. Personal Interaction may be held in physical mode. It checks the relevance and quality of work experience, qualifications, projects, papers and other achievements. It has no qualifying mark.
  5. The final merit list combines CBT and Personal Interaction marks at 80:20. A tie goes to the candidate with higher marks in the eligibility qualification.

If selection is through Personal Interaction only, the minimum qualifying mark is 50%. The SAIL CMLO recruitment committee may also offer a lower level than the one applied for, if the total selected stays within the advertised posts.

Candidates must carry the call letter and one government-approved photo ID. Mobiles, wristwatches and calculators are not allowed inside the centre. SAIL does not accept requests to change the centre. Selected candidates must also submit a general medical fitness certificate.

Should you apply?

For SAIL CMLO recruitment, only candidates who hold the exact degree and years of experience listed above should apply. Each grade has 1 post, so competition is tight for every post, and one candidate wins each place. The Civil Engineer post needs the longest experience and pays the highest salary. The Surveyor post needs a valid Metalliferous Mines certificate on top of the degree.

The contract suits experienced engineers who want mining or plant exposure at SAIL for up to 3 years. It does not suit candidates who need a permanent job, provident fund or pension. The work week is 6 days of 8.5 hours, and leave is limited to 18 days a year. The experience can also help in later mining and plant projects.

Candidates should apply for SAIL CMLO recruitment only when every document in the list is ready, since incomplete applications are rejected without reply.

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
