About the organisation

The National Institute of Technology Agartala is a central government engineering institute located in Jirania, West Tripura. It functions under the NIT Act, 2007. That Act and the Institute Statutes govern staff recruitment, probation and promotion at every National Institute of Technology, NIT Agartala included. This recruitment fills Group B and Group C non-teaching roles. These include technical assistants, engineers, technicians, a pharmacist, and lab and library staff. Together they support the Institute’s laboratories, library, hostels and administration.

Local context

NIT Agartala sits in Jirania, on the outskirts of Agartala, the capital of Tripura. Agartala has its own airport. The city is also connected by rail. Candidates from elsewhere in the North East can reach the campus directly, without routing through Kolkata or Guwahati first. For candidates already based in Tripura, Sikkim or the wider North East, this notification is a central government opening close to home. It does not need relocation to a metro city.

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm travel details with the official website.

Two rules apply across every post. Where a degree certificate omits First Class or First Division, the candidate needs 6.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale. A 60% aggregate also qualifies. And the lower age limit for every post, before any relaxation, is 18 years.

Age relaxation applies to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, PwD, Ex-Servicemen and departmental candidates, as per Government of India norms. Cumulative relaxation is extended where more than one category applies. Departmental candidates in State or Central Government service, PSUs, autonomous bodies, universities or government educational institutions can also get age relaxation. Those with at least three years of continuous regular service get five years of relaxation. A No Objection Certificate from the current employer is required.

NIT Agartala also allows a one-time age relaxation up to 56 years for its own ad-hoc, temporary, contractual or outsourced staff. This follows a Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) order dated 20 February 2019. It also follows a decision of the Institute’s Board of Governors dated 26 June 2019. Such candidates must upload documents proving their association with NIT Agartala, or the relaxation will not be granted.

Selection process

Selection for every post in this notification goes through a Computer Based Test (CBT) only.

  1. Computer Based Test. The test is objective and multiple-choice, in two parts. Part I covers English, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability and Numerical Ability. Part II covers the subject syllabus for the specific post. The Technician exam splits 40 marks for Part I and 60 for Part II. Every other post in this notification splits 20 and 80. Schedule and venue will be notified separately on the Institute website.
  2. Qualifying skill test, wherever a post requires one.
  3. Document verification, where original certificates and one set of self-attested photocopies must be produced. Candidates found ineligible at this stage are disqualified, even if already selected.

No interview is held for any Group B or Group C post in this notification. This follows Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) Office Memorandum No. F.No.39020/01/2013-Estt.(B)-Part, dated 29 December 2015.

If two or more candidates score equal marks in the CBT, the Institute first checks Part A of the test. The candidate with more marks in Part A ranks higher. If the tie continues, the candidate with the earlier date of birth, as per the Matriculation certificate, is placed higher. Any tie that survives both steps is resolved at the Institute’s discretion.

No travelling allowance or dearness allowance is paid for attending the test or document verification. Candidates must carry at least one original photo identity proof to the test centre. Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, Driving Licence or Passport are accepted. Without it, entry is not allowed.

Application fee

The application fee is ₹1,000 for UR, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates, and ₹750 for SC/ST candidates, both non-refundable and payable online. No fee is required for PwD candidates. The fee must be deposited along with the application. An application without the fee is rejected outright, and no request to pay late is considered. A candidate applying for more than one post must pay the fee separately for each post.

Should you apply?

This recruitment suits candidates who already hold the exact qualification a post asks for. NIT Agartala maps eligibility separately to each post code, not to one common standard. Technician and Lab Attendant posts add up to 22 openings between them. These are within reach for candidates with Class 10 plus an ITI certificate, or a Science 10+2, without needing an engineering degree. Technical Assistant and Junior Engineer suit B.E./B.Tech graduates in the matching discipline. Both carry a higher pay level than the Technician-grade posts.

One honest trade-off follows. This is a single-campus recruitment at NIT Agartala, not an all-India transferable post. The posting location does not change after selection. Reserved-category candidates should check the category-wise table closely. Pharmacist and SAS Assistant, for instance, carry unreserved vacancies only. With no interview stage anywhere in this notification, preparation should go entirely into the Computer Based Test.

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official website.
