About National Book Trust, India (NBT)

National Book Trust, India (NBT) functions under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Its own notifications describe it as the apex body in publication of books and book promotion in the country. NBT runs national programmes such as Rashtriya e-Pustakalaya, a digital reading platform for schools, colleges, and libraries, referenced directly in the Outreach Associate and Content Manager job descriptions. For a candidate, these posts offer exposure to national-level publishing, digital-library, and cultural-event work under a Central Government body — though the appointment itself is contractual, not a permanent Central Government job.

NBT Recruitment 2026 — 9 Posts, 10 Vacancies National Book Trust
NBT Recruitment 2026 — 9 Posts, 10 Vacancies National Book Trust

How This Recruitment Compares

All nine posts are based at NBT’s head office in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Technical and content roles (Front End Developer, System Administrator, Content Manager, Content Writer) sit alongside outreach and event-management roles (Outreach Associates, Literary Festival Curator, Cultural Curator, and the two Consultant posts) within the same recruitment drive. The salary bands run noticeably higher for the senior Consultant Grade-I and Grade-II posts than for entry or mid-level technical and outreach posts, which reflects the much longer experience requirement (10 and 15 years respectively) for those two roles. This spread means the drive suits candidates at very different career stages within one organisation, rather than one narrow profile. 2. Applications that do not meet the minimum qualifications, or that are incomplete, are summarily rejected.
  3. Shortlisted candidates are called for a Written Test, Skill Test, or Interview, as applicable to the post — the notices mention all three formats without specifying which applies to which post.
  4. No TA/DA (travel or dearness allowance) is paid for attending the Written Test, Skill Test, or Interview.
  5. Candidates who do not hear back within 15 days of submitting their application should assume they have not been shortlisted.

  3. Paste a self-attested passport-size photograph in the space provided and sign the declaration at the end of the form.
  4. Attach self-attested copies of all relevant certificates, degrees, and testimonials with the application.

Should You Apply?

These nine posts suit very different candidates. The Front End Developer and System Administrator posts fit early-to-mid-career IT professionals with 3–5 years of hands-on experience who want project exposure with a Central Government body. Outreach Associates and Content Writer suit candidates with a few years of experience in education, communication, or content roles. Content Manager, the two Consultant posts, and Literary Festival Curator and Cultural Curator are aimed at senior professionals — some requiring 8, 10, or even 15 years of relevant experience — and pay accordingly higher salaries.

The clearest trade-off across all nine posts is that they are contractual, not permanent. Appointments run for three months initially, extendable at NBT’s discretion, through a manpower agency rather than direct Central Government employment. Candidates who value long-term job security in government service should weigh this carefully against the higher salary bands offered for senior Consultant and Curator roles. (This is added context, not part of the official notification.)
