About ITBP

ITBP is a Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, raised in 1962 to guard India’s border with China from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh. It runs its own medical cadre to serve personnel deployed in high altitude terrain, which is why this recruitment covers ITBP as well as BSF, CRPF, SSB and Assam Rifles under one selection board. For a doctor, it means a central government post combined with the operational demands of a uniformed border force.

Local context and how this vacancy compares

This is an all-India recruitment; posting can be anywhere the CAPFs or Assam Rifles operate, not fixed to one state. One detail worth flagging for readers in Sikkim, North Bengal and the North East: the Physical Standard Test relaxes the height requirement by 2 cm for candidates from Sikkim, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, the Kashmir region of J&K and Ladakh, and by 3 cm for Scheduled Tribe candidates — a relaxation many candidates from these states are not aware applies to them.

This is added context, not part of the official notification: recruitment drives of this scale for CAPF Group ‘A’ doctors do not come up every year, so candidates who meet the post-wise eligibility below have reason to treat this cycle seriously rather than wait for the next one. Confirm current recruitment frequency with the hiring office.

Should you apply?

This suits practising doctors who already hold the exact qualification and experience for one of the three posts, and who are comfortable with a uniformed, transferable government job — posting can be anywhere in India or abroad, including high-altitude and border locations, and private practice is not permitted after joining. In return, candidates get a Group ‘A’ central government rank, a defined pay level with regular allowances, and a time-bound promotion track (the DACP scheme) that does not depend on a vacancy opening up.

The honest trade-off is service commitment: selected candidates must serve a minimum of 10 years, or refund three months’ pay and allowances (or training cost, whichever is higher) if they resign earlier, and there is a two-year probation period that can be extended by a year. Competition is realistically toughest for the 115 Assistant Commandant posts, since a plain MBBS with completed internship is enough to apply, widening the pool; the Deputy Commandant and Second-in-Command posts need a PG or super-specialty degree plus years of experience, which narrows the field considerably. Candidates who are not yet done with their internship can still apply for the Assistant Commandant post, provided the internship is finished before appointment.

FAQs

What is the last date to apply for ITBP Medical Officer Recruitment 2026?

The online application closes on 08 September 2026 at 11:59 PM. Applications must be submitted only through the official ITBP Recruitment portal; the window opened on 10 August 2026.

What is the salary of a Medical Officer in ITBP and other CAPFs?

A Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) draws Level-10 pay of ₹56,100–1,77,500 per month, a Specialist Medical Officer (Deputy Commandant) draws Level-11 pay of ₹67,700–2,08,700, and a Super Specialist Medical Officer (Second-in-Command) draws Level-12 pay of ₹78,800–2,09,200 — each plus Non-Practicing Allowance, DA, HRA and Transport Allowance.

Is there a written exam for ITBP Medical Officer recruitment?

No. Selection is through Documentation, an Interview worth 200 marks (40% qualifying), a Physical Standard Test, and a Medical Examination Test. There is no written examination stage in this recruitment.

How competitive is this recruitment compared to other CAPF medical postings?

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Competition is generally sharper for the Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant) posts, since a fresh MBBS with a completed internship is enough to apply, which draws a larger pool than the Deputy Commandant or Second-in-Command posts that require years of postgraduate experience. Confirm current trends with the hiring office or recent selection results.
