About Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC)
The Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) functions under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), within the Department of Space, Government of India, and is headquartered in Bengaluru. HSFC was formed as the lead centre for ISRO’s human space activities, running multi-disciplinary research and development in new areas of human science and technology while meeting high standards of reliability and human safety. It is focused on building fresh expertise in bioastronautics, human space sciences and space habitat systems — the exact research areas these six posts are recruiting for.

How This Recruitment Compares
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
Unlike large-scale recruitment by SSC, UPSC or the railways, which fill hundreds of posts through a written examination, this HSFC notification is a small, direct-recruitment drive for six specialised research posts, decided purely through screening and a personal interview. HSFC leads ISRO’s Human Space Flight Programme, publicly known as Gaganyaan, so these six posts sit inside India’s astronaut-support and space-biology research effort rather than in ISRO’s larger satellite or launch-vehicle engineering wings. Candidates comparing this to ISRO’s more familiar Scientist/Engineer recruitment through GATE should note that this drive is open only to doctorate holders in specific biomedical and space-biology fields.

Other Eligibility Conditions
- Only candidates who hold the required qualification as on 30 August 2026 (the last date of application) are eligible to apply.
- Candidates who completed a professional course through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are not eligible for consideration.
- The ME/M.Tech/MS/M.Sc./BE/B.Tech/B.Sc./BS-MS qualification for each post must have been completed within the university’s stipulated course duration.
- Candidates holding degrees from foreign universities must produce an equivalency certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, at the time of the personal interview.
- Where a university’s certificate or consolidated mark-sheet states both CGPA and percentage, meeting either one is enough to satisfy the eligibility norm.
- Where only CGPA is stated, that CGPA itself must meet the eligibility norm — converting it to a percentage is not allowed, even if the university has its own conversion formula. The same applies where only a percentage is stated.
- Rounding off of marks is not allowed.
- For dual/integrated degrees, where the certificate states separate CGPA/percentage for graduation and post-graduation, each is counted separately for eligibility. Where only one common CGPA/percentage is given for the entire course, that single figure is used.

Selection Process
Selection for the Scientist/Engineer ‘SD’ posts is based entirely on the online application submitted through the ISRO Live Register Portal, in two stages.
- Initial screening — HSFC screens all online applications to shortlist candidates for interview. Meeting the minimum prescribed qualification does not by itself make a candidate eligible for interview or selection.
- Personal interview — Final selection is based only on performance in the personal interview; there is no separate written exam for these posts.
Candidates called for interview from outside Bengaluru are paid second class railway fare or non-AC bus fare — whichever is lower, by the shortest route from the address given in the application — on submission of proof of journey, regardless of whether they actually travel by rail, bus or air. The option to give the interview in Hindi is also available.
How to Apply
Applications are received online only through the ISRO Live Register Portal; physical applications are not entertained.
- Visit the ISRO Live Register Portal, under the Career tab.
- Register as a new user, or log in and update an existing registration.
- Fill in the required personal, educational and category details, and upload the photo, signature and certificates listed below.
- Submit the online application on or before 30 August 2026 (1700 hours). Registrations made before 10 August 2026 or after 30 August 2026 will not be considered.
- Save and print the application summary for future reference.
Candidates may apply for more than one post code, but should apply only against the post whose essential and pre-requisite qualification they actually hold — this matters especially for Post Code 05 and 06, which share the same discipline names. HSFC also reserves the right to hold the interview for two or more posts together, as per administrative exigency.
Documents to Keep Ready
- Recent colour passport-size photograph, not older than 6 months (.jpg/.jpeg, max 1 MB, 500 px height × 400 px width; plain/white background; frontal full-face view; no selfie; black & white not accepted)
- Signature (.jpg/.jpeg, max 1 MB, 200 px height × 700 px width; clear and legible)
- Essential and pre-requisite qualification certificates (PDF, max 1 MB each)
- One of the following, as applicable: PwBD certificate, Ex-servicemen discharge certificate, or NOC for serving Central Government employees (PDF, max 1 MB)
The site’s Photo & Signature Resizer can help match the exact pixel dimensions above, and the PDF Compressor can bring an oversized certificate PDF under the 1 MB limit before upload.
Applications submitted without complete information, photo, signature or the required documents will be summarily rejected.
At the personal interview stage, candidates must separately bring all original educational certificates, a valid original government-issued photo ID (not a photocopy or scan), and a printed copy of the e-admit card sent to their registered email — a soft copy is not accepted.
Other Important Conditions
- The number of vacancies shown is provisional and may be increased or decreased based on the organisation’s actual requirement; ISRO/DOS reserves the right to cancel the recruitment at any stage.
- Canvassing in any form is a disqualification.
- Women candidates are encouraged to apply.
- PwBD candidates may apply for posts suitable to them even if a post is not specifically identified for PwBD; such candidates are considered on the general standard of merit. A minimum 40% relevant disability is needed to claim the age-relaxation benefit.
- Candidates serving in Central/State Government, PSUs or autonomous bodies must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at the time of the personal interview; without it, they cannot appear for interview and travel allowance will not be paid.
- Any legal proceedings arising from this advertisement fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts at Bengaluru.
- No interim correspondence or phone calls will be entertained for queries already answered in the advertisement.
- All communication about the personal interview, including e-admit card intimation, will be sent only through e-mail or the HSFC website — candidates should keep checking their registered e-mail and the HSFC website.

Should You Apply?
This recruitment suits candidates who already hold a Ph.D. in one of the six listed disciplines — bioinstrumentation, developmental or cell biology, computational biology, or biomedical engineering — and want to apply that research directly to India’s human spaceflight programme. It does not suit fresh graduates or candidates whose highest qualification is a Master’s degree, since a doctorate is compulsory for every post here, unlike ISRO’s more familiar engineering-graduate recruitment route. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office: with only one vacancy in each discipline, competition for the interview stage is realistically high relative to the very small number of openings, even though the applicant pool for such a specialised doctorate is itself narrow. The posts are officially temporary, though the notification states they are likely to continue, and selected candidates can be posted at any ISRO or Department of Space centre in India — a mobility trade-off against the research focus and job security a permanent government scientist post otherwise offers.
