Candidates eligible for a Professor post may apply for an Associate Professor post in the same discipline if the Professor post is already filled, or not open under their category. In that case, selection is made as Professor, and pay is at the Professor rate, not the Associate Professor rate. UR and other category candidates may also apply against posts published under the EWS category; selection then follows merit if no EWS candidate is available. If no eligible candidate applies against a reserved category post, it can be filled by another qualified category for a tenure of 44 days.
Monthly pay is based on data from the Biometric Attendance System. Pay will not carry the Non-Practising Allowance component for candidates with an M.Sc-PhD qualification.
Eligibility
Educational qualification is strictly as per the NMC (MCI) Teacher Eligibility Qualifications (TEQ) as amended, based on the version applicable when a faculty member joined or completed tenure in each position. This is a postgraduate medical qualification requirement across all posts.
For Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pharmacology, candidates with an M.Sc in the subject from a Medical University or Health Sciences University, plus a Ph.D from a Medical or Health Science University, are eligible. They also need the required Post-PhD Tutor, Senior Residency or Senior Demonstratorship experience, and relevant faculty teaching experience for the post applied for.

With maximum experience from a non-teaching government hospital, the highest post a candidate can apply for is Associate Professor. To apply for Professor through this alternate route, a candidate must also have worked as a Thesis Guide in an NBE-accredited institute conducting a PG course offering DNB degrees. That institute can be government or private.
Candidates selected under this revised eligibility must pass the Basic Course in Biomedical Research within two years of joining. Without it, further continuation in the post, or promotion, is not possible.
Age limit
Age limit as on 31 August 2026: 69 years (not exceeding) for Teaching Faculty. The notification also states an age limit for Senior Resident posts (44 years for clinical subjects, 49 years for other than clinical subjects including laboratory science), though the vacancy tables in this notification list only Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor posts.
The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates, with certificates in the prescribed Government of India format. Maximum tenure of engagement is till 70 years of age for Teaching Faculty.
Certificates and registration
- EWS candidates must submit the EWS Certificate as per Annexure-I of the DOPT Office Memorandum No. 36039/1/2019-Estt(Res), dated 31 January 2019.
- The OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate must be issued not more than one year before the interview date, in the Central Government job format, by an officer not below the rank of Sub-Divisional Officer.
- Reservation for PH (Divyangjan) candidates is maintained as per Government of India norms.
- All candidates must have an updated Medical Council registration (NMC or State Medical Council) covering all post MBBS/MD/MS qualifications. Candidates without an updated registration must show an “Applied for document(s)” proof at the interview; without it, a candidate may not be interviewed, or the result may be withheld. Selected candidates must submit the updated registration certificate at the time of joining.
- Candidates working in a Government, Autonomous or Statutory institution should preferably carry a No Objection Certificate at the interview, or a copy of the “applied for NOC” if the NOC is not yet available.
- All candidates need a Relieving Certificate from their current or past employer before joining.
- No private practice is allowed, in any capacity, after joining as Teaching Faculty at ESIC Medical College, Margao.
Selection process
Selection is a single stage: an interview before the Selection Board. The Board scores candidates on their academic credentials and their interview performance. The opportunity to appear for interview is given on a provisional basis, subject to detailed scrutiny of eligibility.
