Selection process

Selection for ITBP Counsellor recruitment runs in three phases, and the merit list uses written marks alone.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET), qualifying only.
2. Physical Standard Test (PST).
3. Written examination of 100 marks.
4. Verification of original documents.
5. Detailed Medical Examination (DME), with a Review Medical Examination (RME) on appeal.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates get 3 chances in each jump. They must qualify every event, and there is no appeal against the PET result.

Female candidates submit a self-declaration about pregnancy status at the PET and PST. A woman found 12 weeks pregnant or more is declared temporarily unfit, and her appointment stays on hold until confinement ends. ITBPF re-examines her PET six weeks after confinement.

Candidates who clear the PET move to the PST, where height, chest (male only) and weight are measured. Female staff measure female candidates. A candidate who fails height or chest can appeal on the same day. Underweight and overweight candidates move ahead, and the DME decides fitness.

Written examination

The written exam for ITBP Counsellor recruitment has 100 objective questions and runs for 2 hours. ITBPF decides whether it is held on OMR sheets or by computer. Every subject except Psychology is set in English or Hindi as shown, and Psychology is bilingual.

The minimum qualifying marks are 35% for UR, EWS and Ex-Servicemen, and 33% for SC, ST and OBC (NCL). There is no negative marking and no re-evaluation. ITBPF uploads the answer key on its website after the exam.

In a tie, the older candidate ranks higher, and then the name that comes first in English alphabetical order. ITBPF calls candidates for documents and the DME in numbers equal to the category-wise vacancies plus the average DME failure rate. A candidate declared unfit in the DME can ask for an RME by signing the consent form within 24 hours. The RME decision is final, and no candidate is declared temporarily unfit.

Candidates must carry a clear printout of the online application and the admit card to the PET and PST.
