Nature of engagement and contract terms
- Engagement type: Contractual, initially for one year, extendable by up to two more years based on a performance appraisal.
- Legal status: Young Professionals are not KVIC staff. There is no employer-employee relationship, and no benefit, compensation, absorption or regularisation beyond the fixed remuneration.
- Leave: Eight days a year. Unused leave does not carry forward to the next year.

Eligibility
KVIC sets one essential qualification for all three streams, plus a desirable qualification that differs by stream.
Essential qualification (all streams): A postgraduate degree in a relevant field from a UGC-recognised Indian university, a UGC-recognised deemed university, or an AICTE-approved institution. Only full-time regular courses count. Internship training does not count as work experience; only direct or fixed-term work experience does.

- Young Professional (Khadi): Postgraduate degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, Fashion Technology, Textile Chemistry, or an equivalent field.
- Young Professional (Audit): Chartered Accountant (CA), MBA (Finance), Master of Commerce (M.Com.), M.Sc (Accounting or Finance), or an equivalent qualification.
- Young Professional (Village Industries): M.Tech, M.Sc, or a Master’s in Rural Development.

Selection process
Selection has two steps.
- KVIC shortlists candidates on the basis of qualification and experience.
