About Central Power Research Institute (CPRI)
Central Power Research Institute is an autonomous Society under the Ministry of Power. It works on research and development in generation, transmission, distribution and operation of electricity supply systems. CPRI also acts as an independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment. Its head office is in Bangalore, with units in Bhopal, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Nashik, Noida, Kolkata, Guwahati and Raipur. For a candidate, this means a technical government job with exposure to India’s power sector, not a desk-only posting.

Local context
CPRI has an active unit in Kolkata and Guwahati, and the exam for this recruitment will be held in Kolkata, among other cities. This makes the process more reachable for candidates from West Bengal and the North East than many central recruitments that only test in metro cities. This is added context, not part of the official notice. Confirm exam city allotment on the official website.
Compared to other central research institute jobs, CPRI’s technical posts (Technician, Engineering Assistant) ask for hands-on ITI or diploma qualifications rather than only a degree, which widens who can apply. This is added context, not part of the official notice. Confirm with the official website.
Candidates in West Bengal Jobs and other Latest Jobs (All India) postings can compare this notification against other current openings on the site.

Should you apply?
CPRI Recruitment 2026 suits candidates across a wide qualification range, from Matriculation to a GATE-qualified engineering degree, which is unusual in one notification. The Engineering Officer posts are competitive, since selection rests entirely on GATE score with no separate interview or test. The Technician and Technical Attendant posts, needing only ITI or Matriculation, are likely to draw a large applicant pool for a small number of seats, especially for the 37 Technical Attendant posts. Candidates should weigh the trade-off between a research institute posting, which offers technical exposure but can mean relocation to any CPRI office in India, against a local department job. Multi-Tasking Staff Gr.1 is open only to Ex-servicemen. Candidates should apply only for the post matching their actual qualification and experience, since dual applications for the same post lead to rejection of all of them. This is added context, not part of the official notice. Confirm with the official website.
