Should you apply?

This is a short-term, project-based position. It is not a permanent government job. The Research Assistant post pays ₹37,000 a month for six months. The university may extend it, depending on performance and the project timeline. The Field Investigator post pays ₹20,000 a month for three months. Neither post carries benefits beyond the stated salary.

The Research Assistant post suits postgraduates with a NET, SLET or PhD who want research experience. Duties include data analysis and report writing. The Field Investigator post suits candidates who are comfortable with fieldwork and travel across Sikkim’s districts. They should also be ready to start on short notice.

Local language ability is a genuine advantage in both roles. The survey depends on direct interviews with Self-Help Group members. Candidates looking for long-term, pensionable government employment should treat this as short-term research experience, not a career post.
