About ISRO Propulsion Complex
ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) at Mahendragiri is a lead unit of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in liquid propulsion for ISRO’s launch vehicle and spacecraft programme. Fireman ‘A’ (Post Code 71)
A pass in SSLC/SSC/Matric/10th Std, meeting the prescribed physical fitness standards, and uploading a Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) Certificate with the online application.
Age limit
Age is calculated as on 5 October 2026. Candidates for Post Codes 60 to 68 and 70 must be 18 to 35 years. Candidates for Fireman ‘A’ (Post Code 71) must be 18 to 25 years. Candidates can check their exact age using the site’s Age Calculator.
Age relaxation applies for SC/ST candidates (5 years) and OBC candidates (3 years), where a post is reserved for that category. Serving government employees, ex-servicemen, persons with benchmark disabilities, widows, divorced women, women judicially separated from their husbands who have not remarried, and meritorious sportspersons get upper age relaxation as per Government of India orders.

Selection process
Selection for Post Codes 60 to 68 and 70 is through a Written Test followed by a Skill Test. Selection for Fireman ‘A’ (Post Code 71) adds a Physical Efficiency Test and a Detailed Medical Examination.
Final selection is based only on the Written Test score. The Skill Test, and the Physical Efficiency Test and medical exam for Fireman ‘A’, are qualifying in nature and do not add to the merit score.
The Written Test is held offline in OMR mode, at centres in Tirunelveli and Chennai. If Written Test scores tie, the tie is broken using the candidate’s academic marks in the notified qualification. The question paper is bilingual, in English and Hindi, for Post Codes 60 to 62, and trilingual, in Tamil, Hindi and English, for Post Codes 63 to 68 and 70 to 71. Candidates in the EWS category are selected to the same standard as unreserved candidates. The mode of selection may change as per orders from the Government of India, the Department of Space or ISRO.
Written Test and Skill Test: Technical Assistant and Technician ‘B’
The Written Test for Post Codes 60 to 68 is based on the curriculum of the qualification named for the post. It has 80 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. Each correct answer gets 1 mark, and each wrong answer loses 0.33 marks. Unreserved candidates need a minimum of 32 out of 80 marks to pass. Candidates from a category the post is reserved for need a minimum of 24 out of 80 marks.
The Skill Test is based on the same curriculum, and is graded on a GO/NO-GO basis. It carries 100 marks, and a candidate needs a minimum of 50 marks to qualify, or 40 marks where the post is reserved for that candidate’s category. Skill Test marks do not count towards final selection. Candidates who qualify in the Written Test are shortlisted for the Skill Test in a 1:5 ratio, with a minimum of 10 candidates called for each post.
Written Test and Skill Test: Cook ‘A’
The Written Test for Cook ‘A’ covers cooking and kitchen equipment, General Knowledge, and General English and Arithmetic at SSLC / Matriculation level. It has 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. Each correct answer gets 1 mark, and each wrong answer loses 0.25 marks. The Skill Test is qualifying in nature, carries 100 marks, and a candidate needs a minimum of 60 marks to qualify.
Written Test and syllabus: Fireman ‘A’
The Written Test for Fireman ‘A’ has 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes. Each correct answer gets 1 mark, and each wrong answer loses 0.25 marks. The syllabus covers:

Physical fitness standards and skill test for Fireman ‘A’
Candidates for Fireman ‘A’ must submit a Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) Certificate, issued by a Government Medical Officer (Allopathy) not below the rank of Assistant Civil Surgeon, valid for 6 months. Scanned copies go with the online application, and only candidates who meet the standards below and upload the certificate are called for the Skill Test.

Near vision, field of vision, psychiatry, heart sounds, ECG, respiratory system, neurological system and the musculo-skeletal system must all be normal, with no clinical evidence of disease. Presbyopia correction is allowed only for candidates above 40 years of age.

- Serious infectious diseases that can spread to others, such as lepromatous leprosy or active, sputum-positive tuberculosis
- Malignancy: any carcinoma, multiple myeloma or blood dyscrasias
- Any major operation that has affected fitness to work in the fire service

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
Candidates who qualify in the Written Test and meet the PME norms are shortlisted for the Skill Test in a 1:50 ratio. The test runs in two stages. A candidate must qualify in Stage 1 to attempt Stage 2, and must qualify in every event to continue. Candidates who qualify in Stage 2 go on to a Detailed Medical Examination. Final empanelment, among candidates who clear the medical exam, follows the order of Written Test marks.

The dummy in the Fireman’s lift weighs 60 kg for men and 50 kg for women and transgender candidates. Shoes with spikes are not allowed in the running events. Three attempts are allowed in the long jump, with the best of the three counted; every other event allows one attempt. Selected Fireman ‘A’ candidates must live in the Essential Staff Quarters at IPRC.
Application fee
The application fee for Post Codes 60 to 62 (Technical Assistant) is ₹750. The fee for Post Codes 63 to 68 and 70 to 71 (Technician ‘B’, Cook ‘A’ and Fireman ‘A’) is ₹500. Payment is online only, through the SBI e-payment gateway, using internet banking, a domestic debit or credit card, or UPI. Cash, cheque, demand draft, money order and IPO are not accepted.
Refund is given only to candidates who appear in the Written Test. For Post Codes 60 to 62, female, SC, ST, Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates get a full refund, and other candidates get ₹500 back, after bank charges. For Post Codes 63 to 68 and 70 to 71, female, SC, ST, Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates get a full refund, and other candidates get ₹400 back, after bank charges. No refund is given in any other case.
