The Institute is in Mohanpur, Nadia district. Candidates from Kolkata and nearby towns can reach the campus by road, or by train and then local road transport. Candidates from Darjeeling, Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and the rest of North Bengal face a long trip to reach Nadia.

No online application is considered after 5.30 pm on 19 October 2026. The Institute is not responsible for postal delay or loss of the hard copy. Hard copies received after 29 October 2026 are not entertained.

The notice gives two reckoning dates for age, qualification and experience. The dates table on page 1 says 19 September 2026. Instruction 35 on page 9 says they are counted on the closing date of the online application, which is 19 October 2026. The notice does not explain the difference. Candidates whose age or experience changes between the two dates should watch the Institute website, because any corrigendum is published only there.

Of the 10 Jr. Assistant (MS) posts, one is reserved for Ex-Servicemen and one for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Blind (B) or Low Vision (LV). The notice does not say which category rows these two posts come from.

By category, the 17 posts split into UR 10, OBC 3, SC 3 and EWS 1. The table lists no vacancy for ST candidates.

Pay follows the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix, fixed at the Pay Level advertised for each post. The rupee pay scale for each level is not mentioned in the official notification. Posts carry allowances and benefits admissible to Central Government employees posted in Kolkata.

Senior Superintendent (Group B, Level-7)

  • Age limit: 38 years
  • Qualification: Master’s Degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or equivalent grade.
  • Experience: at least five years in Pay Level-6 or above as Junior Superintendent or an equivalent post.
  • Work areas: administrative, finance and accounting, academic, legal, statutory, audit, stores and purchase, or establishment matters.
  • Workplace: central or state government, central or state funded educational institutes, government universities, comparable research establishments or other higher education institutions.

Counsellor (Group B, Level-7)

  • Age limit: 40 years
  • Qualification: Master’s Degree with 50% marks in Psychology (Clinical or Counselling) or Social Work (Medical and Psychiatric), with practical experience.
  • Experience: five years counselling students on academic, psychosocial and emotional issues, in a reputed academic Institute or organisation.

Junior Engineer (Civil) (Group B, Level-6)

  • Age limit: 35 years
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with first class, from a recognised University or Institute, and at least five years of field experience.
  • Option 2: Diploma in Civil Engineering with first class, from a recognised University or Institute, and at least eight years of field experience.
  • Field experience: civil works of construction or maintenance of building projects, preferably in organisations or firms dealing with works as per Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Public Works Department (PWD) or Government norms.

Nursing Assistant (Group C, Level-5)

  • Age limit: 33 years
  • Qualification: B.Sc. (Nursing), a four-year course, from a recognised Institute or University.
  • Registration: candidates must be registered with the Indian Nursing Council or a State Nursing Council.
  • Experience: five years of clinical experience in a hospital organisation of minimum 50 beds. This means Central Government, State Government, recognised private hospitals, nursing homes, pharmacies etc.

Jr. Office Assistant (MS) (Group C, Level-4)

  • Age limit: 33 years
  • Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree with 50% marks in any discipline, with excellent computer proficiency in office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience: four years of relevant experience in the office environment.

Jr. Assistant (MS) (Group C, Level-3)

  • Age limit: 30 years
  • Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree with 50% marks in any discipline, with excellent computer proficiency in office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience: three years of relevant experience in office practices or hospitality and catering services.

Attendant (Group C, Level-1)

  • Age limit: 32 years
  • Qualification: Matriculation or a three-year Diploma from a recognised University or Institute in a relevant field.
  • Experience: three years of relevant experience in a laboratory, or an academic or research establishment of national or international repute, handling scientific equipment.
  • Equipment areas: laboratories of biological sciences, veterinary sciences, chemistry, physics, earth and environmental sciences, computer sciences, electrical engineering, data sciences and chemical engineering; chemical effluent treatment labs; virtual classroom; computer networking and IT; e-classroom; audio visual equipment; CCTV networking; cooking, catering etc.

Age limit rules

  • The maximum age for each post is as per RCPP-2023. Age relaxation is as per Government of India norms. The notice does not give the relaxation in years.
  • SC, ST and OBC candidates get relaxation only against vacancies reserved for their category, with a valid community certificate. No relaxation applies if they apply for an unreserved post.
  • The category declared in the application decides relaxation benefits. Later changes in category are not recognised.
  • Institute employees of every type (regular, contractual and outsourced) have no upper age limit. At least one year of service must remain on the last date of application until superannuation.

Qualification and experience rules

  • The qualification must come from a recognised University or Institution.
  • A Post-Graduate degree must be at least two years long. An Under Graduate degree must be at least three years long.
  • For an equivalent qualification, the authority that treated it as equivalent must be named and the document produced. The same applies to experience authenticated by the concerned office.
  • Candidates with CGPA, DGPA, SGPA or FGPA grades must write the percentage equivalent as per their Board or University formula. Certification from the Board or University is needed.
  • Part-time experience is not counted for shortlisting. Contractual, temporary and outsourced experience is not counted where experience in a Pay Level is required.
  • “Relevant experience” means experience related to the area of the post. The Scrutiny Committee decides this, and its decision is final.
  • Candidates working in IDA, CDA or other pay scales must upload an equivalency certificate as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

Selection process

Selection has up to three stages. The Institute may cancel, restrict, curtail or enlarge the process without notice.

  1. Shortlisting. An Institute-level Scrutiny Committee screens the online applications using only the details filled in the form. If applications are many, the Committee may set shortlisting criteria based on desirable qualifications, relevant experience and other prescribed criteria. Its decision is final.
  2. Skill test or trade test. The Institute may hold a Computer Skill Test, a Trade Test or both, on a qualifying basis, for shortlisted candidates. It may hold them separately or together. Marks are not carried forward, and the Institute decides the qualifying marks.
  3. Written test. The test carries 100 marks, with Part-A (General) 50 marks and Part-B (Specialization) 50 marks. Final selection depends on the merit of marks in the written test. The panel stays valid for one year from the date of approval of the Competent Authority.

The notice allows no extra weightage for higher qualification, length of experience or skill test performance. Being called for the written test gives no assurance of selection.

Canvassing is barred. Bringing any influence, political or otherwise, is treated as a disqualification. No enquiries about eligibility, application status, postal delays, the conduct of the process or results are entertained.

The fee is non-refundable and is paid through the payment gateway. Candidates applying for more than one post must apply separately and pay the fee for each post.

  1. Read the notice and check eligibility for the post. The candidate is responsible for the accuracy of every detail.
  2. Open the IISER Kolkata application portal.
  3. Fill in every detail accurately. All details are treated as final and cannot be changed later.
  4. Upload the required certificates. SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS candidates must upload valid category certificates while filling the form to claim reservation.
  5. Pay the fee through the payment gateway and submit the online application by 19 October 2026, 5.30 pm.
  6. Download the PDF of the filled application form.
  7. Send a hard copy of this PDF, with self-attested copies of testimonials, certificates and other enclosures, by speed post, registered post or courier. It must reach the Institute by 29 October 2026, 5.30 pm.
  8. Address the envelope to The Dean (Administration), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, Mohanpur, Nadia District, Pin 741246. Write “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF” and the post name on the envelope.

Incomplete applications and those without the required certificates are summarily rejected. The notice states that IISER Kolkata has not authorised any agent or agency to represent it in recruitment. Candidates should apply only through the official link and should not pay anyone for a job.

  • EWS Income and Asset Certificate valid for financial year 2026-2027, issued on the basis of income for financial year 2025-2026.
  • Equivalency certificate as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, for candidates in IDA, CDA or other pay scales.
  • NOC and Vigilance Certificate, for candidates in Central or State Government organisations, autonomous bodies, PSUs and Government funded research agencies. They must send a printout of the online application through proper channel, or produce the NOC and Vigilance Certificate at the skill test or written test if called.
  • An active mobile number and email address. Call letters and admit cards are sent by email, and test dates go on the Institute’s website.

Should you apply?
