Should you apply?
These posts suit PhD holders, and in some advertisements, thesis-submitted candidates, whose research matches one professor’s field. Most advertisements name exact methods such as resonance Raman, EPR, stopped-flow work or generative AI models, so a close match counts for more than a general degree.
Six advertisements state a single post, so competition for each is likely to be tight. The posts are temporary. Tenure is six months in SR/SMS/55, AB/SMS/56 and JG/SCS/60, and one year at the start in the other advertisements that state it.
Candidates who want a regular post with a fixed pay scale can also check government job updates. Anyone planning an IACS Research Associate application should read the full advertisement first.

FAQs
What is the last date for IACS Research Associate posts 2026?
The last dates run from 3 October 2026 for RP/SPS/54 to 14 October 2026 for BJ/SCS/64 and AD/SCS/62. Four advertisements also set a 5 PM cut-off. Candidates should check the date in the advertisement they plan to apply for.
What is the salary of a Research Associate-I at IACS?
Every advertisement with a notice PDF says the IACS Research Associate fellowship is as per IACS rules. Candidates without a PhD draw a bridge fellowship amount under BJ/SCS/57 and BJ/SCS/64. They move to the full RA-I fellowship from the date of the doctoral degree.
Can I apply for an IACS RA-I post before my PhD is awarded?
Yes, in some advertisements. BJ/SCS/57 and BJ/SCS/64 accept candidates who recently submitted the thesis. JG/SCS/60 accepts candidates who submitted the thesis or presented the open thesis colloquium. Final selection and pay follow IACS rules.
How does an RA-I post at IACS help a research career?
An IACS Research Associate post is a fixed-term research position under a named professor. Candidates add project work and publications to their record during the tenure. That record helps with later research or faculty applications, though the notices give no right to a permanent post.
