The Government of West Bengal has issued the following guidelines for the local recruitment of House Staff in medical institutions and hospitals.

1. Formation of Selection Committee
A selection committee will be formed for the recruitment process.
For Medical Teaching Institutions (Other than Medical Colleges)
The committee will include:
- Principal
- MSVP
- Accounts Officer
- Head of the concerned department
For Other Hospitals Including District Hospitals
The committee will include:
- Superintendent
- Representative from the CMOH office of the concerned district
- Specialist in Medicine
- Specialist in Surgery
- Specialist in Dentistry
- Accounts Officer of the district or their representative
2. Advertisement of Vacancy
The recruitment notice must be displayed on the notice boards of the Superintendent, CMOH, or Principal’s office.

3. Selection Preference
Selection will be made based on the following order of preference:
- Candidates who completed internship in the current year from WBUHS
- Candidates from the immediate previous year and earlier batches
- Candidates from other states of India
- Candidates who completed medical education outside India, starting with Nepal, followed by China, Russia, and others
4. Age Limit
The candidate’s age should not be more than 35 years as on 31st March of the concerned year.
5. Merit List Preparation
For MBBS Candidates
The merit list will be prepared based on:
- Marks obtained in Final MBBS examinations
- Honors or Gold Medals received from the university
- Deduction of marks for chances lost during examinations
The final score will be calculated out of 30 marks.
For BDS Candidates
The merit list will be prepared based on:
- Marks obtained in Final BDS examinations
- University Honors or Gold Medals
- Deduction for chances lost during examinations
The final score will also be calculated out of 30 marks.
6. Approval of Selected List
The final selected list must be sent to the Director of Medical Education for approval.
7. Preference for Fresh Candidates
Candidates applying for the third time or those who have already completed one year of House Staffship may not be considered if fresh candidates are available.
8. Timing of Selection
The recruitment process will be conducted every year after completion of the Central Selection process for fresh and supplementary batches.
9. Government Rights
Publishing the advertisement does not guarantee appointment for all applicants.
10. Validity of Guidelines
These guidelines will remain effective until further orders are issued by the concerned authority.
11. Existing Rules
All other existing rules and regulations related to House Staffship will continue to apply.
