About East Coast Railway

Eligibility

Educational and Technical Qualification (applies to all trades unless noted)

• Matriculation (Class 10) under the 10+2 system with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from a recognised Board, already passed as on 21 August 2026 (the date the notification was issued).
• ITI certificate in the relevant trade, affiliated to NCVT, as per the Apprentices Act, 1961.
• The percentage is calculated on all subjects in the mark sheet — not the “best of five” method. Candidates with a CGPA must convert it to the equivalent percentage.

• Applicants whose SSC/ITI results are still awaited as on the date of the notification.
• Applicants who have failed ITI.
• Engineering graduates and diploma holders (they fall under a separate apprenticeship scheme).

Age Limit (as on 15 September 2026, the closing date)

• General: 15 to 24 years
• SC/ST: upper limit relaxed by 5 years
• OBC (non-creamy layer): upper limit relaxed by 3 years
• PwBD: upper limit relaxed by 10 years
• Ex-Servicemen: relaxed by the length of Defence service rendered plus 3 years, provided a minimum of 6 months’ continuous service; children of Ex-Servicemen and of serving Armed Forces personnel are also covered under the reservation, with the same age relaxation as the community they belong to.

Reservation Notes

• EWS: family gross annual income below ₹8 lakh (all sources — salary, agriculture, business, profession), and the applicant must not own specified land/property assets listed in the notification. A valid Income and Asset Certificate is mandatory.
• If the prescribed SC candidates are not available, SC-reserved slots go to ST candidates and vice versa; any slots still unfilled, or unfilled OBC/EWS slots, go to Unreserved (UR) candidates.
• Candidates claiming SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS reservation who do not submit the prescribed certificate are considered under the General (UR) category if they otherwise qualify.

Selection Process for ITI Pass Railway Jobs 2026

Selection process for ITI Pass Railway Jobs 2026 is based purely on academic merit — there is no written test and no interview for this notification.

1. A separate merit list is prepared for each trade, in each unit, based on the percentage of marks scored in Matriculation (subject to the minimum 50% aggregate).
2. If two or more candidates have the same marks, the older candidate is ranked higher; if the date of birth also matches, whoever passed Matriculation earlier is ranked higher.
3. Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification (DV) at the Headquarters of East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar, based on merit in their preferred trade.
4. Final selection depends on verification of original documents and submission of a Medical Fitness Certificate.
5. A standby list is maintained; call letters go out strictly in order of merit only when vacancies open up due to absentees, medically unfit, or rejected candidates.

No Daily Allowance, Conveyance Allowance, or Travelling Allowance is paid to candidates called for Document Verification.

ITI Pass Railway Jobs 2026 notification suits 10th-pass candidates who already hold an ITI certificate in one of the 25 listed trades and want structured, paid training inside a Railway workshop, along with a National Council Certificate of Proficiency at the end of it. It does not suit candidates looking for an immediate, permanent Railway job — the notification is explicit that apprenticeship creates no claim to employment, and the apprentice is equally free not to accept one afterward.

Since only one Division/Workshop choice is allowed and cannot be changed after applying, candidates should choose the trade-unit combination that genuinely matches their marks and location preference, not just the one with the largest number of posts.

The honest trade-off: this is training with a stipend, not a guaranteed job, and no hostel is provided. In its favour, a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) after training gives preference for up to 20% of Level-1 open-market Railway vacancies later, as stated in the notification itself.
