About UPSC
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the central recruiting body for Group A and Group B civil posts under the Government of India. For this notification, UPSC is recruiting on behalf of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment that runs provident fund, pension and insurance schemes for workers in the organised sector. An APFC selected through this notification becomes a Central Board Group A, Non-Ministerial officer inside EPFO, working on enforcement, recovery, accounts, legal and pension matters.

Local Context: Applying from Darjeeling, Sikkim and the North East
This is an All India post. The selected officer’s headquarters is New Delhi, and the post carries All India Service liability, meaning EPFO can post the officer anywhere in the country. There is no single “posting city” to plan around.
Where the notification does help North Bengal, Sikkim and North-East candidates directly is the Recruitment Test centre list. UPSC has named 84 centres for the written stage, and this list includes Siliguri and Gangtok, along with Dispur (Guwahati), Shillong, Agartala, Itanagar, Imphal, Aizawl, Kohima and Jorhat. A candidate from Darjeeling, Kalimpong or Sikkim can sit the written Recruitment Test at Siliguri or Gangtok without travelling to a metro city; only the interview stage, if shortlisted, requires travelling to UPSC headquarters in New Delhi.
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office: this is a direct recruitment by selection, a different and shorter route than the annual UPSC Civil Services Examination, though both lead to Group A central government posts.

Selection Process
Selection is a two-stage process: a written Recruitment Test (RT), followed by an interview for candidates who are shortlisted and clear document scrutiny.
- Recruitment Test (RT) — a pen-and-paper, objective-type, multiple-choice test of 2 hours, held in both English and Hindi. All questions carry equal marks. There is a penalty of one-third of the marks for each wrong answer; unattempted questions carry no penalty. The RT is scheduled for 20 December 2026.
- Document scrutiny — shortlisted candidates must submit self-attested copies of certificates in support of their application claims; only those who clear scrutiny are called for interview.
- Interview — worth 100 marks. The category-wise minimum level of suitability is 50 marks for UR/EWS, 45 marks (relaxed) for OBC, and 40 marks (relaxed) for SC/ST/PwBD, out of 100.
The Recruitment Test and Interview carry a combined weightage of 300 marks (RT) and 100 marks (Interview), in the ratio 75:25.
Candidates called for interview from outside Delhi are entitled to the Commission’s contribution toward travel, restricted to Second or Sleeper Class train fare (Mail/Express), reimbursed by NEFT after they submit the prescribed TA form and hard copies of their tickets.
The Recruitment Test will be held at 84 centres across India, including Siliguri and Gangtok (see the Local Context section above for the full regional list). Centre allotment works on a first-apply-first-allot basis and is capped at most centres, so candidates are advised by UPSC to apply early to get their preferred centre.
Application Fee
Candidates (except Female, SC, ST and PwBD candidates, who are exempted) must pay a fee of Rs. 25/- by Visa/Master/RuPay Credit or Debit Card, UPI, or internet banking. No fee exemption is available to OBC, EWS or Unreserved male candidates — they must pay the full fee. The fee, once paid, is not refunded under any circumstance and cannot be carried forward to any other examination.

Should You Apply?
This post suits graduates who want a Group A gazetted central government job through a shorter, single-cycle route rather than the annual UPSC Civil Services Examination. The role itself sits in EPFO’s administrative core — enforcement, recovery of dues, accounts, legal work, pension processing and general administration — so it suits candidates interested in labour law, social security administration or public accounts, more than a purely technical background.
Competition is likely to be significant: this is a single national-level post open to all graduates, with only 80 seats spread across five reservation categories. The written Recruitment Test is objective and covers a broad syllabus, so preparation time matters.
One honest trade-off worth weighing: the post carries All India Service liability, so the first posting could be anywhere in the country, not necessarily close to home. Candidates who want to stay near Darjeeling, Sikkim or the North East for family or personal reasons should factor this in before applying — the Recruitment Test can be taken locally, but the job itself cannot be guaranteed to stay local.
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office: other portals have quoted specific in-hand salary figures for this post; the current notification itself does not give a rupee pay figure, only “Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC,” so treat any specific salary number seen elsewhere with caution until UPSC or EPFO confirms it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the last date to apply for UPSC APFC Recruitment 2026?
The last date to apply online for UPSC Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC) Recruitment 2026 is 11 September 2026, up to 1800 hrs, through the UPSC ORA portal at upsconline.nic.in/ora.
What is the salary of Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner in EPFO?

What is the age limit for UPSC EPFO APFC 2026?
The age limit as on 11 September 2026 is 35 years for UR/EWS, 38 years for OBC, and 40 years for SC/ST candidates, with a further 10-year relaxation for PwBD candidates subject to a maximum age of 56 years.
Is the UPSC APFC exam the same as the UPSC Civil Services Exam?
No. UPSC APFC Recruitment 2026 is a direct recruitment by selection, using a single Recruitment Test followed by an interview, which is a separate and shorter process from the annual UPSC Civil Services Examination, though both eventually lead to Group A central government posts.
