About the Department of Posts
The Department of Posts runs India’s postal network through Circles and Divisions across every state. Gramin Dak Sevaks form the backbone of rural post offices, handling mail, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) transactions and other counter services at the village level. A GDS post is a candidate’s entry point into the postal system, and long-serving GDS staff can later compete in the Department’s internal exam to move into regular postal cadre posts such as MTS or Postman. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official website.

Local context and how this compares
For Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and the Dooars, this notification matters directly: the Department’s own local-language list sets Bengali or Nepali for Darjeeling Division post offices, and Nepali for offices under the Gorkha Territorial Administration. For Sikkim Jobs, the requirement is English plus one of twelve recognised local languages — Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar or Bhujel — studied up to Class 10. Candidates from these areas should check the full language table below before choosing a division.
This is the second India Post GDS schedule 2 recruitment 2026. The schedule I ran in January 2026 with the same two-stage structure — registration, then application — followed by a short correction window, so a candidate familiar with that round will find this process unchanged.
Important dates for India Post GDS schedule 2 recruitment 2026

Candidates in these areas should read the full provision in the official notification before applying.
Reservation: SC/ST, OBC, EWS (10%, with no age relaxation) and PwBD candidates must hold the prescribed certificate at the time of physical verification. India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Schedule-II – Selection process
There is no written examination and no interview involved for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Schedule-II. Selection runs entirely on Class 10 marks.
- A system-generated merit list is prepared from Class 10 marks (or, where a board issues only grades, marks worked out using the Department’s conversion formula), calculated to four decimal places.
- Where marks tie, priority goes first by older date of birth, then by a fixed category-and-gender order set by the Department.
- Shortlisted candidates are informed by SMS and email and must report to the Divisional/Unit Head within 15 days for physical document verification.
- If verification succeeds, a system-generated Offer of Provisional Engagement is issued on the spot.
- The candidate then has 30 days to complete joining formalities, including three days of basic training and, for BPM posts, arranging accommodation for the Branch Post Office.

The fee, once paid, is not refunded, and the application must be completed online (card, net banking or UPI) within the application window.
How to apply for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026
- To apply for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026, go to the GDS Online Engagement Portal and complete One-Time Registration using an active mobile number and email ID, both verified by OTP.
- Note the Registration Number sent by SMS; a password is issued the same way.
- Log in and fill in personal details, then Class 10 board, year and marks.
- Choose one Division and rank post preferences from the list of posts the system shows as eligible, based on community, age, PwBD status and local language studied.
- Upload a recent photograph (320×400 px, 30–100 KB, JPG) and signature (300×120 px, 20–100 KB, JPG) in the exact format prescribed. The Photo Signature Resizer tool can size both correctly before upload.
- Preview the form carefully, then pay the fee if applicable and submit.

Should you apply? My personal experience?
This suits a Class 10 pass candidate looking for a first government-linked job without a written exam, particularly in a home district where the local-language condition is easy to meet. Selection depends purely on Class 10 percentage, so competition is sharper for popular divisions with fewer posts.
A GDS post is not the same as a regular Central Government job. GDS staff are paid under the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system, a separate pay scale from what regular central government employees get, and at a lower rate. Pay Commission benefits do apply to GDS, but at a different rate than for regular employees. Working hours are also shorter — a maximum of 5 hours a day, against the usual 8-hour day for a regular post — and BPM applicants take on the added responsibility of arranging Branch Post Office accommodation themselves.
This is not a dead end, though. After completing three years of service, a GDS can appear for the Department’s internal examination for the Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Postman and Postal Assistant (PA) cadres. Clearing this exam absorbs the GDS into a regular Central Government post. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official website.
Frequently asked questions
What is the last date to apply for GDS Recruitment 2026 Schedule-II?
Online applications close on 21 September 2026 at 5:00 PM at indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement. A separate correction window is open on 23 and 24 September 2026 for candidates who have already submitted an application and need to fix an error.
What is the salary of GDS BPM and ABPM in India Post?
BPM is paid a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) of Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 29,380 a month. ABPM and Dak Sevak are paid Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 24,470. Both slabs rise 3% annually and carry Dearness Allowance on top.
Is there a written exam for GDS recruitment 2026?
No. Selection is entirely through a merit list based on Class 10 marks. There is no written test, skill test or interview at any stage of GDS engagement.
Can a GDS employee move to a regular postal job later?
Yes, though not automatically. GDS staff can appear for the Department’s internal GDS-to-MTS/Postman/Mail Guard exam after meeting the eligibility service period, which can lead to a regular postal cadre post. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the official website.
