Eligibility

Senior Software/System/Network Engineer (Grade-I)

Pay Matrix Level: Level 12 (₹78,800–2,09,200)

Essential qualification & experience: First class ME/M.Tech/M.S. degree or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology or equivalent, from a recognised University/Institute of repute, with at least 6 years’ relevant experience (of which 2 years must be in the Grade Pay of ₹6,600/- or equivalent level). OR First class B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. degree or MCA or equivalent in Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology, with at least 8 years’ relevant experience (of which 2 years must be in the Grade Pay of ₹6,600/- or equivalent level).

• For Senior Software Engineer Grade-I: hands-on experience with MVC frameworks, web development frameworks (like Spring), PHP, Java technologies, J2EE (especially JSP, JDBC), HTML5, JSON, JavaScript frontend frameworks like jQuery, web service tools, XML, database design on RDBMS like PostgreSQL, system and database administration, TCP/IP and HTTP protocols, and software development lifecycle processes including UML and system/class design.
• For Senior System Engineer Grade-I: hands-on experience in system administration of Linux and Windows environments, centralised/networked storage and backup systems, mail servers, DNS/DHCP/Proxy servers, antivirus and security software, with strong troubleshooting skills.
• For Senior Network Engineer Grade-I: hands-on experience in the design, operation and maintenance of large wired/wireless networks; installing and configuring switches, routers and access points; and working knowledge of network security infrastructure and management systems.

Age: Preferably 50 years.

Senior Software/System/Network Engineer (Grade-II)

Pay Matrix Level: Level 11 (₹67,700–2,08,700)

Essential qualification & experience: First-class BE/B.Tech/M.Sc. degree or equivalent, or MCA, in Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology, from a recognised University/Institute of repute, with at least 5 years’ relevant experience (of which 3 years must be in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix, ₹56,100–1,77,500 — pre-revised PB-3, Grade Pay ₹5,400/- — or equivalent level).

• For Senior Software Engineer Grade-II: the same technical areas as Grade-I above — MVC, Spring, PHP, Java, J2EE/JSP/JDBC, HTML5, JSON, jQuery, XML, PostgreSQL-based database design, system/database administration, TCP/IP, HTTP, and software development lifecycle processes.
• For Senior System Engineer Grade-II: system administration of Linux and Windows environments, centralised/networked storage and backup systems, mail servers, DNS/DHCP/Proxy servers, antivirus/security software, and strong troubleshooting skills.
• For Senior Network Engineer Grade-II: design, operation and maintenance of wired/wireless networks; installing and configuring switches, routers and access points; and working knowledge of network security and management systems.

Age: Preferably 40 years.

Software/System/Network Engineer

Pay Matrix Level: Level 10 (₹56,100–1,77,500)

Essential qualification & experience: First class B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc. degree or equivalent, or MCA, in Computer Science and Engineering/Information Technology, from a recognised University/Institute of repute, with at least 2 years’ relevant experience in one or more of the areas below.

• For Software Engineer: MVC frameworks, Spring, PHP, Java, J2EE/JSP/JDBC, HTML5, JSON, jQuery, RDBMS like PostgreSQL, database administration, and software development lifecycle processes.
• For System Engineer: installation, maintenance and system administration of Linux and Windows systems (servers, storage, system software), including network configuration, with strong troubleshooting skills.
• For Network Engineer: operation and maintenance of wired/wireless networks; installing and configuring switches and access points; network management systems; and troubleshooting skills.

Age: Preferably 35 years.

General eligibility notes

• Age and eligibility are reckoned as on 17 September 2026, the closing date for online applications.
• Age relaxation applies as per Government of India norms.
• Reservation follows Government of India rules; reserved-category candidates must upload the latest Caste/Category certificate.
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates must upload an OBC-NCL certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026, and not later than the last date of application — otherwise they are treated as unreserved-category applicants.
• Admission to any stage of the selection process is purely provisional, subject to confirmation that the candidate meets the eligibility criteria.

Selection process

IIT Kharagpur shortlists candidates based only on the documents uploaded with the online application. Because admission to any stage is provisional, final eligibility is confirmed at document verification. The stages are:

1. Online application and document upload.
2. Shortlisting based on the uploaded documents — no other document is considered at this stage.
3. Screening Test / Written Test / Presentation / Group Discussion / Personal Interview — the Institute decides which of these to hold for a particular post, especially where the number of applicants is high.
4. Document verification at the test/interview stage.

Candidates called to appear before the Selection Committee or for interview are paid to-and-fro rail fare by the shortest route, limited to AC-3 tier.

Application fee

The application fee is ₹500 for SC/ST/PwD/Women candidates and ₹1,000 for all other candidates.

• Payment is accepted online through SBI Net Banking, other banks’ net banking, all banks’ credit cards (retail), or RuPay debit cards.
• The fee is not refundable under any circumstances, and cannot be held in reserve for any other application, examination or selection.

This recruitment suits candidates with a Computer Science, IT or related engineering background who already have some years of hands-on system, network or software development experience — even the entry-level Engineer post asks for at least 2 years of relevant experience, so it is not a fresh-graduate opening.
