The salary is not flat across the four years. It starts at ₹30,000 per month in year one and climbs with a fixed yearly increment to ₹40,000 by the fourth year. Of each month’s package, 70% reaches you in hand and 30% goes into the Agniveer Corpus Fund, which the Government matches rupee for rupee. On completing the engagement, you receive a Seva Nidhi payout: about ₹5.02 lakh from your own contribution plus an equal ₹5.02 lakh from the Government. There is no gratuity and no pension entitlement. The Navy also provides a non-contributory ₹48 lakh life insurance cover during the engagement, with a one-time ex-gratia of ₹44 lakh in case of death attributable to service.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for Agniveer (Apprentice) include education and age requirements. Candidates should make sure they meet all the conditions before applying. Age Limit

As per the batch criteria in the notification:

• 01/2027 Batch: born between 01 Dec 2004 and 31 May 2009 (both dates inclusive)
• 02/2027 Batch: born between 01 May 2005 and 31 Oct 2009 (both dates inclusive)

Candidates born between 01 Dec 2004 and 31 Oct 2009 can apply for INET 2/2026 and will then be considered for the Stage II process of whichever batch their date of birth fits.

Syllabus & Exam Pattern – Navy Agniveer Apprentice 2026

The INET 2/2026 (Stage I) and the Stage II written exam follow the same structure. Separate exams are conducted for the Electrical and the Engineering entries. Here is how the paper is set.

1. Total questions: 100, each carrying 1 mark.
2. Sections (4): English & General Awareness, Science, Mathematics, and Diploma (Trade Specific).
3. Mode: Computer-based, bilingual (Hindi & English), multiple-choice.
4. Duration: 1 hour.
5. Negative marking: 0.25 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
6. Passing rule: You must pass each section and the aggregate. The Indian Navy decides the section-wise and aggregate pass marks.

Selection Process

Selection runs in two stages, with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) acting as the exam partner for Stage I. Merit is drawn up state-wise, so cut-offs vary from state to state and from batch to batch.

1. Stage I — INET 2/2026: the computer-based test described above. Sponsor candidates and NCC ‘C’ certificate holders are exempt from this stage and are issued call letters directly for Stage II.
2. Stage II — Physical Fitness Test (PFT): qualifying is mandatory. For male candidates: a 1.6 km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds, 20 squats (uthak baithak), 15 push-ups, and 15 bent-knee sit-ups.
3. Stage II — Written Exam: the same 100-question paper, held only for those who clear the PFT.
4. Recruitment Medical Examination: minimum height 157 cms; uncorrected vision 6/12, 6/12 (corrected 6/6, 6/6); colour perception CP Pass. Permanent tattoos are allowed only on the inner forearm and the back of the hand.
5. Provisional Select List: prepared from Stage II written marks, subject to passing the PFT and medical.
6. Pre-Enrolment Medicals at INS Chilka before induction.

One practical point worth flagging: candidates who report even 30 minutes after the reporting time for the Stage I INET will not be allowed to sit the exam. And at INS Chilka, if the details on your online form do not match your original certificates, your candidature is cancelled. So fill the form exactly as your documents read.
