About United India Insurance Company Limited (UIIC)

United India Insurance Company Limited is a public sector general insurance company wholly owned by the Government of India, with a gross premium of more than Rs. 21,400 crore and over 1,200 offices and service hubs across the country as of 31 March 2026. It is one of several public sector insurers that regularly run this kind of centralised, all-India government job recruitment, offering a permanent posting, a defined pay scale, and retirement benefits such as NPS and gratuity that are less common in private-sector insurance roles.

North Bengal, Sikkim and the posting reality

This is a pan-India recruitment, not a regional one, so candidates from Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri or Sikkim can register and choose any UIIC-notified examination centre at the time of application. Vacancy details and salary

UIIC has announced 225 provisional vacancies for Administrative Officer (Scale I), split across two disciplines.

Category-wise vacancies — Generalists

PwBD horizontal reservation (within the 200, not additional): VI – 2, HI – 2, OC – 4, MD/ID – 3.

Category-wise vacancies — Hindi Officers

PwBD horizontal reservation (within the 25, not additional): VI – 1, HI – 0, OC – 0, MD/ID – 0.

The notice states these category-wise numbers are provisional and indicative — the company reserves the right not to select any candidate from a listed category, or to interchange numbers between categories at any stage. EWS vacancies are additionally described as tentative and subject to government directives and any pending litigation on EWS reservation.

Candidates currently serving as Administrative Officers (Scale-I) in UIIC are not eligible to apply. A candidate can apply for either the Generalist or the Hindi Officer discipline, not both — multiple registrations or appearances will lead to cancellation of candidature.

Pay scale and emoluments

Basic pay is in the scale of Rs. 82,485–4050(14)–1,39,185–4390(4)–1,56,745, plus other admissible allowances. Gross pay is approximately Rs. 1,10,000 per month at metropolitan centres. Other benefits include Gratuity, Leave Travel Subsidy (LTS), Medical Benefits, Group Personal Accident Insurance, the National Pension System (NPS), and leased accommodation as per company rules.

UIIC AO Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility

Eligibility is checked as on 30.06.2026 for both age and educational qualification. Nationality applies equally to both disciplines; educational qualification differs and is mapped below.

Nationality and citizenship

A candidate must be one of the following: a citizen of India; a subject of Nepal; a subject of Bhutan; a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling; or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates in the last four categories need an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India.

Educational qualification — Generalists

A graduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline — including but not limited to Engineering, Arts, Science, Commerce, Agriculture or Data Science — from a recognized university, with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates) in either the degree or postgraduate examination.

Educational qualification — Hindi Officers

A Master’s degree from a recognized university, satisfying one of these five combinations, each with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD) at the degree level:

1. Hindi medium, with English as a compulsory/elective subject or medium of examination
2. English medium, with Hindi as a compulsory/elective subject or medium of examination
3. Any other subject, Hindi medium, with English compulsory/elective
4. Any other subject, English medium, with Hindi compulsory/elective
5. Any other subject, with Hindi and English both as compulsory/elective subjects, one as medium and the other as a compulsory/elective subject

For both disciplines: the qualification must be from a university or institute recognised by the UGC/AICTE and the Central Government, obtained through the 10+2+3 pattern or an equivalent system. Candidates with only CGPA/OGPA/SGPA need a university-issued conversion certificate, and any fraction below 60% (for example, 59.99%) is treated as below 60%. The qualification must be completed on or before 30.06.2026 — candidates who wrote their final exam but whose result is declared after this date are not eligible. Working knowledge of computers is mandatory.

Age limit (as on 30.06.2026)

Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years old as on 30.06.2026 — born between 30.06.1996 and 30.06.2005 (both dates inclusive). Use the age calculator tool to check eligibility against this cut-off date. Age relaxation applies as follows:

Relaxation is cumulative for a candidate eligible under more than one category, subject to a maximum age of 45 years.

Selection process for UIIC AO Recruitment 2026

The selection process for UIIC AO Recruitment 2026 covers three online tests and an interview. Meeting the eligibility conditions alone does not entitle a candidate to a call for the exam or interview — the company decides how many candidates to shortlist at each stage.

1. Tier I: Preliminary Examination (Online Objective Test) — qualifying in nature
2. Tier II: Main Examination (Online Objective Test + Descriptive Test)
3. Interview for candidates who qualify Tier II
4. Document verification and medical examination for those finally selected

Tier I: Preliminary Examination (common to both disciplines)

Candidates must clear a sectional cut-off in each section, plus an overall qualifying score set by the company. Marks scored in the Preliminary Examination are not counted in the final merit list — they only decide who is shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Tier II: Main Examination — Generalists

Descriptive Test: English Language — Letter Writing (10 marks) and Essay (20 marks) — 30 marks, 30 minutes, typed on computer immediately after the objective test, English only. Candidates must clear a qualifying score in the descriptive test, decided by the company based on the number of vacancies.

For Generalists, the final merit list is prepared from the Tier II Objective Test marks and the Interview marks in a 75:25 ratio. Marks from the Preliminary Examination and the Descriptive Test are not counted toward the final merit list — the descriptive test is qualifying only.

Tier II: Main Examination — Hindi Officers

Descriptive Test: English Essay (10), Hindi Essay (10), Letter Writing in Hindi (10), English-to-Hindi Translation (10), Hindi-to-English Translation (10) — 50 marks, 60 minutes, English and/or Hindi as applicable to each question.

Important distinction: for Hindi Officers, both the Objective Test and the Descriptive Test marks from the Main Examination are combined and count toward the final merit list, together with the Interview, in a 75:25 ratio. Preliminary Examination marks are excluded. This is different from the Generalist stream, where the Descriptive Test is qualifying only and does not add to the merit score — a distinction the official notice states explicitly but that is easy to miss.

There is a penalty of one-fourth of the marks allotted to a question for each wrong answer, in both the Preliminary and Main objective tests; there is no penalty for unanswered questions. Each section carries its own cut-off, and there is an overall cut-off for each category. If two or more candidates score the same total, the candidate senior in age (by date of birth) is ranked above the younger candidate.

Interview and final merit list

Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are called for interview, up to three times the number of vacancies in their category and discipline. Outstation candidates are reimbursed to-and-fro Sleeper Class rail or bus fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the interview venue, on submission of proof of travel. A candidate found ineligible at the interview stage is not allowed to appear and is not entitled to any travel reimbursement.

Probation, guarantee bond and service conditions

Selected candidates, if certified medically fit, are appointed as Administrative Officer (Scale I) on probation for one year, extendable at the company’s discretion. During probation, officers must pass the non-life Licentiate Examination conducted by the Insurance Institute of India — confirmation in service depends on clearing this exam within the (extended) probation period.

Before joining, selected candidates must give an undertaking to serve the company for a minimum of five years, including the probation period. Resigning before this period ends attracts liquidated damages equal to the actual gross salary paid (capped at one year’s gross salary), plus a separate Rs. 35,000 onboarding and integration cost. These damages reduce proportionately for resignations after one year but before five years of service.

Posts are permanent, and selected candidates can be posted or transferred to any UIIC office in India at the company’s discretion; no request for a preferred posting location is entertained.

Application fee

The fee or service charge, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances and cannot be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.

2. Register with your name, contact details and email ID to generate a Provisional Registration Number and Password — note these down (they are also sent by email and SMS).
3. Fill in the application form in stages, using “Save and Next” to verify details before final submission.
4. Upload your scanned photograph and signature as per the specifications given in the notice.
5. Upload your scanned left thumb impression and handwritten declaration as per the specifications given in the notice.
6. Preview the completed form and correct any errors, then click “Complete Registration” — no changes are possible after this step.
7. Go to the Payment tab and pay the application fee or service charge online.
8. Click “Submit,” then download and print the system-generated application form and the payment e-Receipt for your records.

Documents to keep ready

• Recent passport-style colour photograph, scanned to 200×230 pixels, 20–50 KB, JPG/JPEG
• Signature in black ink on white paper, scanned to the specified file size (not in capital letters)
• Left thumb impression in black or blue ink on white paper, scanned to 240×240 pixels at 200 DPI, 20–50 KB (right thumb, another finger, or toe impression only if the left thumb is unavailable, exactly as specified in the notice)
• A handwritten declaration in English, in the candidate’s own handwriting, not in capital letters, scanned to 800×400 pixels at 200 DPI, 50–100 KB
• A valid personal email ID and active mobile number, kept live through the whole recruitment process
• Educational certificates and mark sheets, and category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD) if claiming reservation, from the competent authority listed in the notice
• A valid photo ID for later stages — PAN, Passport, Driving Licence, Voter ID, Aadhaar with photograph, or similar; note that a ration card and a learner’s driving licence are not accepted as ID proof for this process
