The notification also states that Act Apprenticeship/ITI in any trade is the only accepted qualification for technician posts. A Diploma in Engineering will not be accepted as an alternative, even though it is a higher qualification in the same line of training.
Age Limit
Age limit: 18 to 25 years as on 01.07.2026. No age relaxation, upper or lower, is permissible for this recruitment since it is conducted through Open Advertisement.
Sports Achievement Norms
Eligibility under Sports Quota is built on sports norms, not academic marks alone. For Level-1 posts, a candidate must have represented in events such as the Commonwealth Championship, Asian Championship, South Asian Federation Games, USIC (World Railways) Championship, or held at least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships, or at least 8th position in Senior National Championships representing a state. For Level-2 posts, the norms step up to World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or top-3 finishes in national-level events. For Level-4/5 posts, norms require representation in the Olympic Games or a Gold Medal at the Asian Games (Category A), or a top-3 finish in World Cup, World Championships, Asian Games, or Commonwealth Games (Category B). Junior National Championships recognised by the Railway Sports Promotions Board (RSPB) are also accepted for several disciplines, with achievements required from the current or preceding two years, that is, from 01.04.2024 onward.
Selection Process
Selection runs through a trial-based assessment rather than a written exam. All eligible candidates are first called for a physical trial, and only those candidates are carried forward for further evaluation.
- Trial assessment (40 marks): Game skill, physical fitness, and coach’s observation. Candidates must secure at least 25 of these 40 marks to be declared FIT.
- Sports achievement assessment (50 marks): Based on recognised sports achievements as per the prescribed norms.
- Educational qualification (10 marks): Marks awarded against the qualification held.
- Final merit (100 marks total): Minimum qualifying marks are 60 for Level-1, 65 for Level-2, and 70 for Level-4/5 posts.
The notification specifically states that candidates declared NOT FIT by the Trial Committee will not be assessed further by the recruitment committee. It also clarifies that if more than one sportsperson scores the same total marks, preference goes to the younger candidate to decide the final merit.
Application Fee
The application fee depends on the candidate’s category, and the receipt copy must be attached with the application.
- General category candidates: ₹500/- (₹400 refunded after deducting bank charges, only to candidates who actually appear in the trial).
- SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/Persons with Disability/Women/Minorities/Economically Backward Class candidates: ₹250/- (refunded after deducting bank charges, only to candidates who actually appear in the trial).
The fee is to be deposited online in PFA/RCF/KXH’s account No. 65035290377, IFSC Code SBIN0050540, State Bank of India. Cheque, draft, and postal order are not accepted, and the application is liable to rejection without the fee receipt copy attached.

💡 Tips for Sending Application through India Post Service
Send your application by Speed Post with Acknowledgement Card (AD Card) [Posting Charge Starts from Rs. 47/- depending on weight]— you’ll get delivery confirmation right at your doorstep. India Post no longer offers standalone Registered Post (Domestic) as of September 2025, so Speed Post is the safest option now.
Use a thick green envelope to protect your documents from damage in transit. Write your contact number clearly on the back of the envelope.
Arrange your documents in this order before sealing: application form first, then educational certificates, then experience documents. Punch a small hole on the top-left corner of the entire set and tie it neatly with a thread.
Only enclose what is asked for. Extra documents increase postage costs and make it harder for the employer to sort through your application. [This is General tips follow information as advised in official notification]

Should You Apply?
This recruitment suits sportspersons who already hold a recognised national or international sports achievement matching the norms for Level-1, Level-2, or Level-4/5 posts, and who meet the 10th Pass to Degree qualification bar for the specific post. It is not a fit for candidates without a qualifying sports achievement on record, since the notification allows no relaxation in either age or educational qualification, and trial marks alone cannot substitute for the 50-mark sports achievement component.
With only 23 posts spread across nine disciplines, competition within each event depends on how many eligible sportspersons nationally hold a matching championship-level record for that specific year window. Based on typical Railway Sports Quota cycles, candidates selected through this route generally move into the technician or clerical cadre they are recruited against, with promotion prospects following standard Railway service rules over time; this is editorial context and not part of the official notification. One trade-off worth weighing is the five-year service bond and the requirement to maintain active competitive form, since sports norms are checked against achievements from the two years preceding application.
