About ISRO

ISRO is India’s space agency, functioning under the Department of Space, Government of India. Its centres and units engage in Research and Development for Space Application, Space Science and Technology, building the country’s launch vehicles and communication and remote-sensing satellites. This recruitment is for engineering and architecture posts under the Civil Engineering Programme Office (CEPO) at ISRO Headquarters, Bengaluru, and the Construction and Maintenance Divisions (CMDs) at various ISRO centres, which plan, design, construct and maintain the ground-based structures and facilities that support the Indian space programme. One post (BE004A) is for the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), an autonomous body under the Department of Space.

Vacancy details and salary

ISRO has listed 92 tentative vacancies across eight post codes. The number of vacancies is provisional, and ICRB/ISRO reserves the right to increase or decrease it as required.

Salary: Selected candidates are appointed at Level 10 of the Pay Matrix, with a minimum basic pay of ₹56,100 per month. Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance are paid as per extant central government rules. Employees are covered under the New Pension Scheme/Unified Pension Scheme, and are also eligible for medical facilities for self and dependents, subsidised canteen, limited quarters facility (in lieu of HRA), Leave Travel Concession, Group Insurance and House Building Advance as per central government orders.

The notification describes the posts as “temporary, but likely to continue.” The official FAQ issued with this notification clarifies what this means: the posts are permanent, but remain classified as temporary until the incumbent completes the prescribed probation period.

Eligibility

Every post requires a BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks (average of all semesters) or CGPA 6.84 on a 10-point scale, completed within the stipulated duration of the course. Where a university’s certificate shows both CGPA and percentage, meeting either one is enough; where it shows only one of the two, that figure must independently meet the criteria — conversion between CGPA and percentage is not allowed either way, even if the university prescribes a conversion formula.

Post-wise qualifying degree and GATE paper code

A degree and GATE paper code must match exactly as listed. The official FAQ confirms, for example, that a Computer Science graduate with a GATE score in Electronics (EC) cannot apply against Computer Science, and that a candidate qualified in an unrelated GATE paper code cannot apply even with a matching allied degree.

Degree branches accepted under each discipline (per the official FAQ)

Electronics (BE001) — Applied Electronics, Communication, Electrical Electronics, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Electronics & Power, Electronics & Telecommunication, Industrial Electronics, Power Electronics, Telecommunication, Instrumentation Technology, Instrumentation & Control, Electronics & Instrumentation, and Avionics. GATE qualification must still be in Electronics & Communication Engineering (Paper Code EC).

Mechanical (BE002) — Aeronautical, Aerospace, Industrial and Production, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, Industrial Management, Manufacturing Engineering (and its variants), Material Science and Technology, Mechanical and Automation, Mechanical and Mechatronics (Additive Manufacturing), Mechanical Engineering (including Industry Integrated, Production, Design variants), Mechatronics Engineering, Metallurgical/Metallurgy (and variants), and Production/Production Management. GATE qualification must still be in Mechanical Engineering (Paper Code ME).

Computer Science (BE003) — Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering (including its AI/ML, AI and Data Science, Cyber Security, AI, Software Engineering, Big Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Computer Networking and IT variants), Computer Science and Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Computer Science and Systems Engineering, Computer Technology, Information Engineering, Information Science (and its variants), Information and Communication Technology, and Information Technology (and its Engineering variant). GATE qualification must still be in Computer Science & Information Technology (Paper Code CS).

Electrical (BE005) — Electrical, and Electrical & Electronics. GATE qualification must still be in Electrical Engineering (Paper Code EE).

Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning (BE006) — Mechanical Engineering graduates only, and only if Air Conditioning & Refrigeration or an allied subject was studied as an elective or core subject in any semester.

Equivalent degree types accepted (all disciplines): B.E., B.Tech, B.Sc. (Engineering), Diploma + B.E./B.Tech (Lateral Entry), B.Sc. + B.E./B.Tech (Lateral Entry), and AMIE (subject to conditions — AMIE registration must have started on or before 31 May 2013, and the candidate needs 65% marks or CGPA 6.84 in Section ‘B’ alone). A degree earned through correspondence is not accepted; a degree earned through part-time study is accepted, subject to the other conditions.

Age limit

The age limit is 28 years as on 17-08-2026. Serving government employees are eligible for age relaxation as per Government of India orders. PwBD, SC, ST and OBC candidates are eligible for age relaxation as per Government of India orders — but only wherever the specific post reserves seats for that category. This means, for example, that an OBC or ST candidate applying for BE001 (Electronics) or BE003 (Computer Science) — which reserve seats only for PwBD, not for OBC/SC/ST — is not entitled to age relaxation on that basis, even though the same candidate would get it applying for BE004 (Civil) or BE005 (Electrical), where those categories are reserved.

Date-of-birth cut-offs by category:

• UR/EWS candidates: born on or after 18-08-1998
• OBC candidates: born on or after 18-08-1995
• SC/ST candidates: born on or after 18-08-1993

There is no relaxation in educational qualification or marks for any category — the 65%/CGPA 6.84 requirement applies uniformly.

PwBD certificate: Candidates applying against a PwBD-reserved post must submit a self-attested Disability Certificate in the prescribed format at the time of interview, issued by a medical board of at least three members (including one specialist), and showing not less than 40% relevant disability.

OBC candidates: must hold a valid OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate as on 17-08-2026.

EWS candidates: must hold a valid Income and Asset Certificate for financial year 2026–2027.

Selection process

There is no written test for this recruitment. Shortlisting for interview is based purely on the GATE score entered in the online application, in a ratio of 1:7, and only a valid GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 score is accepted — a 2024 or earlier score is not valid for this advertisement.

1. Online application and GATE score entry — Candidates enter their GATE score (not GATE marks or GATE rank) exactly as awarded.
2. Shortlisting for interview — ICRB shortlists candidates in a 1:7 ratio based on the entered GATE score, and separately verifies the score against GATE records.
3. Personal interview — assessed out of 100 marks: Technical (Academic) Knowledge (40), General Awareness relevant to the specialisation (20), Presentation/Communication Skill (20), Comprehension (10), and Academic Achievements (10 — covering institute type, academic performance, and any institute-awarded rank).
4. Final merit list — prepared with 50% weightage to the GATE score and 50% weightage to the interview marks.

Qualifying percentage required: UR and EWS candidates need 50% in GATE score and 50% in interview, with 60% aggregate. Reserved candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD, wherever the post is reserved) need 40% in GATE score and 40% in interview, with 50% aggregate.

A practical point from the notification: candidates called for interview are reimbursed second-class/sleeper-class train fare, by the shortest route, from the city stated in their online application to the interview venue — a change of city or address for this purpose is not entertained. A candidate who fails to submit an original No Objection Certificate (where required) at the time of interview will not be permitted to interview and will not be paid this travelling allowance.

ISRO reserves the right to change the qualification criteria for interview and final selection for administrative reasons, and reserves the right not to fill any post without assigning a reason.

Application fee

The application fee is ₹250 (non-refundable), payable online only through the Bharatkosh portal, using Internet Banking, UPI, or domestic Debit/Credit cards. No other mode — cash, cheque, draft, money order or IPO — is accepted. The last date for fee payment is 19 August 2026.

All women candidates, and SC, ST, Ex-servicemen (EX-SM) and PwBD candidates of any gender, are exempted from the application fee.

2. Under Current Opportunities, select Advertisement No. ISRO:ICRB:02(EMC-CEPO):2026 dated 28-07-2026, and click “View More Details.”
3. Scroll down the advertisement page to find the link for applying online, and register.
4. Note down the registration number displayed on screen immediately, and check for the confirmation email.
5. Fill in all fields carefully — there is no provision to edit details after final submission. The last application submitted before the deadline is treated as final.
6. Upload photo and signature in JPG format, and the GATE scorecard in PDF format.
7. Pay the application fee online (if applicable) either immediately after registration or later, up to 19 August 2026, using the “Make Payment” link on the advertisement page with your registration number and date of birth.
8. Submit the application before the closing date, 17 August 2026.

Should you apply?

This suits BE/B.Tech (or equivalent) graduates who already hold a valid, discipline-matching GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 score and want a stable, research-oriented Group ‘A’ government engineering career, without sitting a fresh written exam. It does not suit candidates who need a fixed posting city, since selected candidates can be transferred to any ISRO or Department of Space centre at any time, or candidates whose GATE paper code does not exactly match their qualifying degree, since ISRO does not accept cross-discipline GATE scores even against an allied degree.

The honest trade-off here is that a strong GATE score gets a candidate only halfway: the interview carries equal weight in the final merit list, so weak interview or communication skills can offset even a very high GATE score. With 92 tentative vacancies spread across eight post codes and a 1:7 shortlisting ratio, competition will vary sharply by discipline — Electronics and Mechanical carry the largest vacancy counts, while Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning and Architecture have only two posts each nationwide.
