About Army Postal Service
Army Postal Service is the postal corps of the Indian Army. It handles mail, parcels and postal banking for Army units deployed within India and at field locations abroad. The corps functions under the Additional Directorate General, Army Postal Service at IHQ of MoD (Army), and it draws part of its workforce from Department of Posts employees who volunteer for field service. A volunteer enrolled into APS keeps a lien on their permanent post in the Department of Posts and can be repatriated if found medically unfit during service. Candidates can check related defence and paramilitary recruitment updates on the Defence & Paramilitary Jobs section.

Important Dates
The notification lists three cut-off stages instead of a single application window. Applicants should note that the gap between the volunteer’s submission date and the Divisional Head’s forwarding date is fixed, so late submission to the Divisional Head can cause a volunteer to miss the 5 September 2026 forwarding cut-off even if 14 August 2026 has not passed.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Last date for volunteers to submit application to Divisional Head | 14 August 2026 |
| Cut-off for Divisional Head to forward recommended list to OIC APS Records | 5 September 2026 |
| Medical screening at specified AROs / ZROs | November 2026 |
| Despatch of medically fit volunteers to APS Centre for training | After medical fitness is confirmed |
Vacancy Details & Salary
Here’s the breakdown of posts, total vacancy and salary for your reference.

| Postal Assistant / Sorting Assistant (PA/SA) | Warrant Officer rank. Civil Pay ₹46,230 / APS Civil Pay ₹54,938 / Army Pay ₹66,488 |
The notification also states that a volunteer can choose between Civil Pay and Army Pay at the time of enrolment, whichever is beneficial. Army Pay carries Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹5,200 per month plus dearness allowance on it, while APS Civil Pay carries a 12% Field Service Allowance (FSA) on basic pay instead.

Should You Apply?
This recruitment suits a serving Inspector of Posts, LSG Postal Assistant, Postal Assistant or Sorting Assistant who is below 40 years of age, medically fit for SHAPE-1, and willing to relocate anywhere in India or abroad on short notice. It is not a good fit for staff who cannot leave their current posting station for extended field service, or for anyone with a pending disciplinary or vigilance case. Since the notification does not state a vacancy number, competition cannot be assessed precisely, though the qualification bar (an existing departmental cadre, age below 40, and a clean service record) already narrows the applicant pool compared to an open recruitment. Based on the rank-conversion and promotion route mentioned in the notification, an Inspector of Posts can additionally attempt the Services Selection Board to be considered for a Lieutenant’s commission after enrolment; this is part of the source notification, not added context. One trade-off candidates should weigh is that choosing Army Pay over Civil Pay locks in Army allowances and rules for the duration of service, so the decision should be made only after comparing both pay options in the notification’s own tables.
