The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has rolled out a fresh call for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assist with audit-related work on its examination question papers. If you’re an academic with a passion for assessment quality and want to contribute to one of India’s largest recruitment bodies, this might be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

What’s the Opportunity?
SSC is empanelling SMEs to audit question papers and items used across its examinations. The empanelment covers two broad subject areas:
- English Language and Mathematics
- General Studies subjects — specifically Reasoning and General Awareness
Empanelled experts may be called to the SSC Headquarters at CGO Complex, New Delhi, to carry out the assigned work. Remuneration will follow the Commission’s approved rates.

Who Can Apply?
The eligibility bar is set with academic rigor in mind. Across all subjects, applicants must be serving or retired faculty members from a recognised College, University, or Institution, and must hold a Postgraduate Degree in a relevant or allied discipline. Sound knowledge of both English and Hindi is essential, since SSC papers are bilingual.
For English and Mathematics
Postgraduate qualification in the subject itself or a closely allied discipline.
For General Awareness
Relevant disciplines include History, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Public Administration, Sociology, Commerce, Science subjects, Environmental Science, International Relations, Journalism & Mass Communication, or any other related field the Commission deems suitable.

For Reasoning
Given the analytical nature of reasoning questions, qualifying disciplines include Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Psychology, Philosophy (Logic), Operations Research, Data Science, Engineering disciplines, or any other analytical or quantitative field.
SSC examinations — from CGL and CHSL to MTS and constable recruitment — are gateways to government jobs for millions of aspirants every year. The integrity, fairness, and quality of question papers directly shape those candidates’ futures. By inviting domain experts to audit its question bank, the Commission is reinforcing a culture of academic scrutiny and quality control.
For faculty members, this is more than just a consulting gig. It’s a chance to apply pedagogical expertise to real-world assessment design, work alongside one of India’s premier recruitment bodies, and indirectly influence the standards of public service entry examinations.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- The Commission retains the right to assign — or not assign — work to any empanelled SME without giving reasons. Empanelment is not a guarantee of engagement.
- Work is expected to be carried out on-site at SSC Headquarters in New Delhi, so applicants should factor in travel and availability.
- Bilingual competence is non-negotiable. If you’re rusty on Hindi, this isn’t the role for you.
How to Apply
Interested and eligible faculty members should send their resume, clearly indicating their specialization, along with supporting documents relating to educational qualifications and experience, to:
Email: soqb.415@ssc.nic.in Deadline: 25 June 2026
The official notice was issued by the Director, Staff Selection Commission, on 9 June 2026.
Empanelment opportunities like this don’t come around often, and they tend to attract a focused pool of serious academics. If you meet the criteria and have the bandwidth, it’s worth putting together a clean, well-documented application well before the deadline. Given that the window is roughly two weeks, procrastination is the biggest enemy here.
For any aspiring SME — whether a current professor, a recently retired academic, or a researcher with a strong subject grounding — this is a meaningful way to lend your expertise to public examinations that touch lakhs of lives every cycle.
