How is the WBPSC Misc exam structured?
The selection process has three stages. You must clear each stage to move to the next. Here is a quick overview:
STAGE 1
- Preliminary Exam
- 200 Makrs
- Screening only. Marks not counted for final merit.
STAGE 2
- Final Written Exam
- 450 Marks
- 3 papers on the same day. Marks count for merit.
STAGE 3
- Personality Test
- 100 Marks
- Called based on written exam performance.
The total marks that count for your final merit list = Final Written Exam (450) + Personality Test (100) = 550 marks. The preliminary exam is just a gateway — it does not add to your score.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination (200 marks)
This is a screening test with 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each carrying 2 marks, for a total of 200 marks. You get 1 hour 30 minutes to complete it.

IDENTITY DISCLOURE PENALTY : If you write your name, roll number, ticket number, or any identifying marks inside your answer script, 10% of that paper’s full marks will be deducted from your total score. Keep your identity strictly confidential within the answer booklet.
- The commission has the right to set qualifying marks in any paper or in the total aggregate — clearing a paper does not guarantee selection.
- Assessment of answer scripts done by the Commission is final and binding.
