About SBI and the Fire Officer Desk

State Bank of India runs this recruitment through its Central Recruitment & Promotion Department at the Corporate Centre in Mumbai. The Bank recruits specialist cadre officers for technical work that regular banking staff do not handle. Fire safety is one such area. SBI runs a very large network of branches and offices. Each one needs fire safety checks, drills and a fire NOC from the local fire brigade. The SBI Fire Engineer recruitment fills the officer posts that handle this work. The post sits in the existing Engineer (Fire) cadre, and career path and transfers follow the rules for that cadre.

Job Profile and Duties

SBI says this list is illustrative, and the Bank may assign other work.

Skills required: good knowledge of fire pumps, fire hydrant systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and fire sprinkler systems. Candidates also need knowledge of building evacuation procedures and fire safety audits.

Main duties:

  • Visit branches and offices to review fire safety arrangements and suggest upgrades.
  • Carry out annual fire safety audits and make sure the points are closed.
  • Vet engineering drawings, layouts and estimates for fire safety equipment.
  • Prepare fire orders for branches and offices.
  • Organise fire and evacuation drills and lectures for employees.
  • Train banking staff, floor marshals and fire control room staff in firefighting.
  • Share the Disaster Management plan from the Local Head Office (LHO) with branches.
  • Check premises design and layout against local building bylaws.
  • Work with fire services, municipal corporations and civil authorities.
  • Get the Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Bank premises from local fire brigades.

How This Vacancy Compares

The SBI Fire Engineer recruitment is a niche drive. Most current SBI specialist cadre openings ask for finance, IT, risk or management qualifications. Among the 2026-27 SBI advertisements listed on sbi.bank.in, this is the only one for fire engineering. SBI last filled this post under Advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2024-25/18, and its final result is on the SBI careers results page. So this post does not come up every year.

Candidates in Sikkim, North Bengal and the North East do not need to travel far for the online test. The tentative centre list includes Gangtok, Siliguri, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Agartala, Aizawl, Imphal, Kohima and Naharlagun. Candidates who want to compare other national openings can browse more all-India job openings on the site.

Should you apply?

The SBI Fire Engineer recruitment suits fire engineering graduates with at least 2 years of experience in fire safety. It also suits Station Officers and industrial fire officers who want to move into a bank. The job is a regular officer post in JMGS-I, with a pay scale and allowances that are fixed in the notification. The work is mostly inspection, audits, drills, training and liaison with fire authorities. Candidates looking for firefighting operations will find this job more administrative.

Competition is limited by the narrow qualifications, but there are only 17 posts, and 11 of them are unreserved. The online test requires real preparation in fire service rules and Acts, not only engineering theory. The main trade-off is posting. Selected officers can be sent to any SBI office in India, and SBI may not accept requests for a specific place. Candidates who cannot relocate should weigh this before paying the fee. Those who want a wider choice can look at other latest government job updates before deciding on this SBI vacancy.
