Who can apply
- The student must be studying in Class 8, only in a government or aided school in Haryana.
- The student must have passed Class 7 with 55% marks, only from a government or aided school, in the previous session.
- The parents’ total annual income, from all sources, must be below ₹3,50,000.
- A student who has failed Class 8 cannot sit the exam.
- A student can sit this exam only once.
Who cannot apply: Students studying in a Kendriya Vidyalaya, a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), any residential school, or any private school cannot apply for this scholarship, whatever their income.
Reservation
Seats are decided at the district level, according to each district’s quota. Reservation under the scheme is: SC 20%, BC-A 16%, BC-B 11%, and Persons with Disabilities 3%. The remaining seats are for the general category. A student applying under a reserved category must upload a certificate from a competent authority with the online application, or will be treated as general category and not moved into a reserved category later.
How students are selected
Selection is through a written exam with two parts.
Part 1: Mental Ability Test (MAT) has 90 questions, all compulsory, for 90 marks, in 90 minutes. It tests logic, analysis and synthesis through multiple-choice questions.
Part 2: Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) has 90 questions, all compulsory, for 90 marks, in 90 minutes: Science 35 questions, Mathematics 20 questions, and Social Science 35 questions.
Each question has four options, marked on an OMR sheet. The qualifying marks in each part are 36, and 29 for SC, backward class and disabled candidates. There is no negative marking. There is no provision for revaluation after the result. The exam has no fixed syllabus, but the question level matches the Class 7 and 8 syllabus of the Haryana Board and CBSE. The exam medium is Hindi and English.

How to apply for NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27
