About Staff Selection Commission

The Staff Selection Commission recruits staff for central government departments and organisations. It works under the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. Its headquarters is at Block No. 12, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The Commission conducts this exam for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Delhi Police. It does not decide how many vacancies each force reports. Exam centres and physical standards for eastern and North East candidates

The Commission runs nine regional offices. Candidates from West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands come under the Eastern Region office in Kolkata. Its listed centres include Siliguri (4415), Kolkata/Howrah (4410), Gangtok (4001), Malda (4412), Burdwan (4422), Durgapur (4426), Kalyani (4419) and Suri (4416). Siliguri sits on the main rail and road corridor into North Bengal, and Gangtok is reachable by road from Siliguri.

Candidates from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh come under the North Eastern Region office at Dispur, Guwahati. Its centres include Guwahati (5105), Shillong (5401), Itanagar (5001), Agartala (5601), Aizwal (5701), Imphal (5501), Kohima (5302) and Dimapur (5301).

The height norms matter here. Male Gorkha candidates need 157 cm for SI (GD) in the CAPFs, against 170 cm for the general norm. Male candidates from hill areas and Sikkim need 165 cm. Male Scheduled Tribe candidates from the North-Eastern States need 157 cm. Full standards are given below.

The application window is 21 days long. The exam schedule has not been announced yet.

Exam city and time table details are uploaded on the regional office websites about 10 days before the exam. Admission certificates can be downloaded two or three days before the exam.

SSC SI Recruitment 2026 – Vacancy details and salary

All three posts carry the same pay scale, Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400). SI (GD) in CAPFs and SI (Fire) in CISF are Group B (Non-Gazetted), Non-Ministerial posts. SI (Executive) in Delhi Police is classified as Group C by Delhi Police.

Ex-servicemen vacancies for SI (Fire) in CISF are 18, at 10 per cent.

Delhi Police male: open and ex-servicemen split

Open: 184 posts. UR 77, OBC 49, SC 27, ST 13, EWS 18.
Ex-servicemen (others): 12 posts. UR 5, OBC 3, SC 2, ST 1, EWS 1.
Ex-servicemen (special category): 9 posts. UR 5, OBC 2, SC 1, EWS 1.
Half the ex-servicemen quota is kept for three groups. The first is men who served in the Special Forces or the NSG Special Action Group. The second is men with a Qualified Instructor grading in the commando course. The third is Navy and Air Force officers from specialised commando type units. Unfilled posts here pass to other ex-servicemen.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), 250 posts. Male 200: UR 82, EWS 20, OBC 54, SC 30, ST 14. Female 50: UR 21, EWS 5, OBC 13, SC 7, ST 4.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), 187 posts. Male 159: UR 89, EWS 21, OBC 30, SC 18, ST 1. Female 28: UR 16, EWS 4, OBC 5, SC 3, ST 0.

The CAPF total is 1,320 posts, made up of 1,173 male and 147 female vacancies. Ex-servicemen vacancies across the CAPFs are 132, at 10 per cent.

Eligibility

Educational qualification

Qualification is counted as on the closing date for online applications, that is 30 September 2026.

• SI in Delhi Police and SI (GD) in CAPFs: Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent. Candidates who have appeared in the final examination can also apply, but must hold the qualification on or before the closing date.
• SI (Fire) in CISF: Bachelor’s degree in science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Matriculation with a three-year diploma is also accepted. The diploma must be in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Automobiles, Chemical, Mining, Aeronautical or Telecommunication Engineering. A B.Tech or M.Tech in the relevant field counts as value addition, provided the basic diploma is held. Candidates can browse other diploma and ITI vacancies on the site.
• Male candidates for SI in Delhi Police: a valid LMV driving licence for motorcycle and car. It must be held on the date fixed for the physical endurance and measurement test. Male candidates without it are eligible for SI in CAPFs only.

A sports certificate can be entered in the sports column of the form. The notice states that no extra marks are given for it.

Age limit

The cut-off date for age is 1 August 2026.

• All posts except SI (Fire) in CISF: 20 to 25 years. Born not earlier than 2 August 2001 and not later than 1 August 2006.
• SI (Fire) in CISF: 18 to 30 years. Born not earlier than 2 August 1996 and not later than 1 August 2008.

Upper age relaxation is 5 years for SC and ST, and 3 years for OBC. Ex-servicemen get 3 years after deducting military service from actual age on the closing date. For Delhi Police posts, widows, divorced women and women judicially separated and not remarried can apply up to 35 years. That limit rises to 40 years for SC and ST. Departmental Delhi Police candidates with three years of regular service can apply up to 30 years. The limit is 33 years for OBC and 35 years for SC and ST. Date of birth is taken from the matriculation certificate. No change request is accepted later.

Physical standard test

Weight must correspond to height for all posts. There is no chest requirement for female candidates. Height and chest relaxation is granted only against the certificate at Annexure-VIII from the district authority.

SI (Fire) in CISF. Male general 170, chest 81/86. Male from listed hill areas and communities 165, chest 81/86. That group covers Garhwal, Kumaon, Himachal Pradesh, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, Sikkimies, Leh and Ladakh, Kashmir Valley and the North Eastern States. Male Scheduled Tribe, including Mizos and Nagas, 162.5, chest 77/82.

Candidates found not qualified on height or chest can appeal to the appellate authority present on the PST and PET ground. That decision is final.

Physical endurance test

Male candidates: 100 metre race in 16 seconds. 1.6 km race in 6.5 minutes. Long jump 3.65 metre in 3 chances. High jump 1.2 metre in 3 chances. Shot put of 16 lbs, 4.5 metre in 3 chances.

Female candidates: 100 metre race in 18 seconds. 800 metre race in 4 minutes. Long jump 2.7 metre in 3 chances. High jump 0.9 metre in 3 chances.

Ex-servicemen do not have to take the PET. They still have to clear the PST, the written papers and the medical standards.

Medical standards

Minimum near vision is N6 in the better eye and N9 in the worse eye. Minimum distant vision is 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye, without glasses or any corrective surgery. Candidates must not have knock knee, flat foot, varicose vein or squint. They must have high colour vision. Tattoos are allowed only with religious symbols, figures or the name. They may be marked only on the left forearm or the back of the hand. The size must be under one quarter of that body part.

Selection process

The selection process for SSC SI Recruitment 2026 runs through four stages, all of them mandatory. PST, PET and the medical examination carry no marks and only decide who moves ahead. Final merit is built on Paper-II marks and the post preference the candidate submits.

2. Physical Standard Test and Physical Endurance Test (qualifying)
3. Paper-II (computer based)
4. Detailed Medical Examination, with review medical examination for those found unfit, preferably the next day
5. Document verification by the CAPFs, before the final result

Exam pattern

Paper-I runs for one hour, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each part.

Paper-II has a harder difficulty level. Parts I, II and III run for one hour, with a sectional timer of 20 minutes each. Part IV runs for a separate hour.

Questions are objective multiple choice. Parts I, II and III are set in both Hindi and English in both papers. Negative marking is 0.25 marks per wrong answer in Paper-I and 0.50 marks in Paper-II. Minimum qualifying marks are 30 per cent for UR and 25 per cent for OBC and EWS. All other categories need 20 per cent.

NCC certificate holders get bonus marks in each paper. An NCC ‘C’ certificate carries 5 per cent of maximum marks, ‘B’ carries 3 per cent and ‘A’ carries 2 per cent. Scores are normalised if the exam runs in multiple shifts.

Post preference is taken through an online option form after the Paper-II result. The notice states this preference is final and irreversible. Candidates who do not submit it are dropped from the final result. Ties on total marks are broken in four steps. First Paper-II marks, then English marks in Paper-II. Then date of birth, with the older candidate placed higher. Then alphabetical order of names.

Application fee

The fee is ₹100. Women candidates, SC candidates, ST candidates and ex-servicemen eligible for reservation are exempt.

Payment is accepted only online, through BHIM UPI, net banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay debit cards. Fee can be paid up to 1 October 2026 (23:00 hrs). An application with unpaid fee shows as ‘Incomplete’ and is rejected. Fee is not refunded and is not adjusted against another exam.

Correction charges are separate. The Commission charges ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second, for every candidate regardless of gender or category.

How to apply for SSC SI Recruitment 2026

1. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on https://ssc.gov.in. An OTR created on the old site, ssc.nic.in, does not work on the new one.
2. Log in and open the application form for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs Examination, 2026. The form can also be filled through the mySSC mobile app from the Google Play Store.
3. Choose Aadhaar-based authentication during OTR. Forms submitted this way are not rejected for photograph or signature format. Such candidates also do not have to carry a photo ID and photographs to the exam venue.
4. Let the module capture a live photograph. Stand in good light against a plain background, keep the camera at eye level, and remove any cap, mask or spectacles. A photograph of an existing photograph is rejected outright.
5. Upload the scanned signature in JPEG format, 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. The photo and signature resizer can bring a file into that range.
6. Give three exam centre preferences inside one region, in order of priority. No centre change request is accepted later.
7. Pay ₹100 online unless exempt.
8. Check every field through Preview/Print, then submit before 30 September 2026 (23:00 hrs) at https://ssc.gov.in.

• Matriculation or secondary certificate for date of birth
• Degree, diploma or equivalence certificate for the educational qualification
• Caste or category certificate in the prescribed format for SC, ST and OBC claims
• EWS income and asset certificate valid for financial year 2026-27, based on income for 2025-26
• LMV driving licence for motorcycle and car, for male candidates opting for Delhi Police, issued before the PST and PET date
• Ex-servicemen undertaking at Annexure-IV, discharge certificate, and serving defence personnel certificate at Annexure-III where applicable
• No objection certificate for candidates already in government service
• Two recent passport size colour photographs and one valid original photo ID at every stage

Candidates should keep the application form and score documents for at least three years.

Should you apply?

This suits graduates aged 20 to 25 who are already fit. Training for a timed run and jumps within a few months is the main ask. The pay is Level 6 from day one, which is high for an entry-level uniformed post. Probation runs two years. Competition is heavy, because a single degree and a ₹100 fee open the door to 1,871 posts. The physical stages remove a large share of applicants before Paper-II. Fitness is the real filter here, more than the syllabus.

It suits fewer people than it looks. Every post except Delhi Police carries all India service liability, which can mean a border posting far from home. Male candidates without an LMV licence are locked out of Delhi Police entirely. Post preference is irreversible. A candidate who fails the medical or physical standard for the preferred force is not moved to the next choice. Candidates from Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim and the North East get real relief on the height norms. The nearest listed exam centres for them are Siliguri and Gangtok.
