Eligibility

General conditions (apply to all applicants)

• Domicile: candidate must be a domicile of Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Leh Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand.
• Passing year: candidates who passed their degree/diploma in 2024 or after 2024 are eligible.
• Age limit: minimum 18 years, maximum 26 years, as on 16 September 2026. Age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates applies as per Government of India guidelines. Candidates can check their exact age against the cut-off date using the site’s Age Calculator.
• Candidates who have already completed an apprenticeship, terminated one midway, or are currently pursuing an apprenticeship elsewhere or in AAI at the same qualification level, are not eligible.
• Candidates who had 1 year or more of apprenticeship training or job experience after attaining the essential qualification are not eligible.
• A candidate can apply for only one discipline; applications for more than one discipline will be rejected.

Qualification, by apprentice category

Graduate & Diploma apprentices (Civil Engg., Electrical Engg., Electronics, Computer Science/IT, Aeronautical/Aerospace/Aircraft Maintenance, Architecture, Mechanical/Automobile): Full-time (Regular) four-year Degree, or three-year (Regular) Diploma, in Engineering in the relevant stream, recognised by AICTE, Government of India.

BCA/B.Com (Graduate category): the notification lists this as a Graduate specialisation with 10 seats but does not separately state a qualification beyond the field names BCA or B.Com — not mentioned further in the official notification. Candidates in this stream should confirm the exact qualifying degree with AAI RHQ (NR) before applying.

ITI Trade apprentices (COPA/Steno, Computer Hardware & Networking): ITI/NCVT certificate in the relevant trade from an institution recognised by AICTE, Government of India, as stated in the notification. AAI Apprentice 202 – Selection process

Selection has no written exam. It works in these stages:

1. Provisional shortlisting based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Where marks are equal, date of birth and then date of passing decide seniority. CGPA is converted to a percentage as per the norms of the candidate’s own board or university.
2. Document verification, at the establishment office, for which eligible candidates are intimated only through their registered email ID — date, time and venue are communicated separately.
3. Interview, for which shortlisted candidates are again called only through their registered email ID. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
4. Final selection, based on the interview and verification of certificates, followed by submission of a Medical Fitness Certificate (from a Government Medical Officer or a Government Undertaking’s Medical Officer) at the time of joining.

Selected candidates are posted preferably at the Northern Region location they registered on the portal, though final placement depends on availability. Candidature remains provisional until certificates are verified and the medical fitness requirement is met; merely attending document verification or the interview does not by itself confirm selection.

This suits candidates from the eleven listed northern states and Union Territories who hold (or are about to complete) an engineering degree, engineering diploma, or ITI certificate, and want structured, government-linked exposure to airport operations for a year. It does not suit candidates outside these domicile areas, or anyone who has already completed a year or more of apprenticeship or job experience after their qualification — the notification rules them out directly.

Selection depends entirely on academic percentage rather than a written test, so a candidate’s own marksheet matters more here than in most government recruitments. With 205 seats spread thin across ten specialisations and eleven states, competition will vary a great deal by discipline — a 50-seat category like COPA/Steno is a very different contest from a 4-seat category like Aeronautical Diploma. The honest trade-off: AAI states plainly that this is training, not a job offer, and it takes on no obligation to offer regular employment afterward. For someone building an aviation-sector resume, that is still a reasonable one-year opportunity; for someone who needs guaranteed employment at the end, it is not.
