About Airports Authority of India (AAI)
Airports Authority of India (AAI) is an ‘A’ Miniratna Category-1 Public Sector Enterprise, constituted by an Act of Parliament and formed on 1 April 1995 by merging the erstwhile National Airports Authority and the International Airports Authority of India. It is responsible for creating, upgrading, maintaining and managing India’s civil aviation infrastructure, both on the ground and in the airspace. For a candidate, an apprenticeship with AAI means direct, hands-on exposure to how a national aviation infrastructure body runs its airports and offices.

How this compares
This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
Most single-city apprenticeship drives draw from one state or region. This AAI notification is unusual for pooling seats from eleven states and Union Territories at once, while still routing candidates to a preferred posting near their registered location. Like most engagements under the Apprentices Act, 1961, it does not promise a job at the end — the stipend is split between the organisation and the Government’s Direct Benefit Transfer, a structure common across NATS and NAPS apprenticeships in other central PSUs and departments. Candidates weighing this against other current openings can browse more such postings on the site’s Apprentice jobs category, and should treat this one as a one-year, resume-building training placement rather than a recruitment exam.

AAI Apprentice 202 – Selection process
Selection has no written exam. It works in these stages:
- Provisional shortlisting based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination. Where marks are equal, date of birth and then date of passing decide seniority. CGPA is converted to a percentage as per the norms of the candidate’s own board or university.
- Document verification, at the establishment office, for which eligible candidates are intimated only through their registered email ID — date, time and venue are communicated separately.
- Interview, for which shortlisted candidates are again called only through their registered email ID. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
- Final selection, based on the interview and verification of certificates, followed by submission of a Medical Fitness Certificate (from a Government Medical Officer or a Government Undertaking’s Medical Officer) at the time of joining.
Selected candidates are posted preferably at the Northern Region location they registered on the portal, though final placement depends on availability. Candidature remains provisional until certificates are verified and the medical fitness requirement is met; merely attending document verification or the interview does not by itself confirm selection.

Should you apply?
This suits candidates from the eleven listed northern states and Union Territories who hold (or are about to complete) an engineering degree, engineering diploma, or ITI certificate, and want structured, government-linked exposure to airport operations for a year. It does not suit candidates outside these domicile areas, or anyone who has already completed a year or more of apprenticeship or job experience after their qualification — the notification rules them out directly.
Selection depends entirely on academic percentage rather than a written test, so a candidate’s own marksheet matters more here than in most government recruitments. With 205 seats spread thin across ten specialisations and eleven states, competition will vary a great deal by discipline — a 50-seat category like COPA/Steno is a very different contest from a 4-seat category like Aeronautical Diploma. The honest trade-off: AAI states plainly that this is training, not a job offer, and it takes on no obligation to offer regular employment afterward. For someone building an aviation-sector resume, that is still a reasonable one-year opportunity; for someone who needs guaranteed employment at the end, it is not.
