For CPCL 01 to 07, the stages are:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): tentatively in Chennai only. It has 120 objective questions for 120 marks, to be solved in 2 hours. Of these, 50 test General Aptitude (verbal ability, general knowledge, reasoning and numerical ability). The other 70 test discipline knowledge. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.
  2. Group Discussion or Group Task: for shortlisted candidates in CPCL 01 to 06. CPCL 07 has a Skill Test instead.
  3. Personal Interview.
  4. Document verification and medical fitness check.

Should you apply?

The CPCL Executive recruitment suits experienced candidates. Every post asks for work experience. It requires two years in CPCL 01 to 07, or 12 or 15 years in a secretarial post. Fresh graduates cannot apply, and candidates above 28 years cannot apply for CPCL 01 to 07 without relaxation.

Competition varies by discipline. Chemical has 22 posts. Civil, Instrumentation, Information Systems, Official Language and Secretarial have 1 or 2 posts each, so seats are few there.

Two trade-offs apply. CPCL 01 to 07 carry a three-year service bond, which is ₹3,00,000 for General candidates. The work also runs in shifts. Candidates from Darjeeling or Sikkim face a long trip to Chennai for the test.

For candidates who meet the experience and age rules, the post offers a Navratna public sector employer and an IDA pay scale. Candidates can compare more government job updates before applying.

This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office.
