Enrolment as an advocate
The eligibility conditions do not list enrolment as an advocate. The list of attested documents does include an Advocate’s enrolment certificate. The application form also asks for the Bar Council name, enrolment number and year. Candidates should confirm with the Registrar (Judicial Service) office whether enrolment is compulsory.
Marital status conditions
The notice bars a person who has more than one wife living from appointment. It also bars a woman who is married to a person who already has a wife living. In both cases, the Governor can grant an exemption if he is satisfied that special grounds exist.
Selection process
Selection is based on the aggregate marks in the written examination and the viva-voce. The written examination follows the syllabus in the Sikkim Judicial Service Rules, 1975, which the High Court publishes on its website. The notice does not give the dates or the order of the stages below.
- Preliminary scrutiny. Only candidates found eligible are called for the written examination. The High Court will upload the list of accepted applications on its website.
