WBPSC Reopens Edit Window for OBC Sub-Category/UR Category Details: Dates, Steps and Deadline Warning

Public Service Commission, West Bengal | Announcement No. 346/PSC(I) | Dated 7 October 2026

The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) has reopened the “Edit Window” for candidates of four recruitment examinations. Candidates can use it to update their OBC Sub-Category or UR Category details. The Commission says candidates who miss the deadline will be treated as UR Category candidates, and no further representations will be entertained.

What the announcement says

The notice (No. 346/PSC(I), dated 07.10.2026) follows the Commission’s earlier announcement No. 192/PSC(I) dated 03.09.2026. Under that announcement, the edit window for OBC candidates was made operational from 06.09.2026.

The Commission is now reopening the window under two memos of the Backwards Classes Welfare (B.C.W.) Department, Government of West Bengal:

  • Memo No. 945-BCW/MR-23/2026, dated 18.05.2026
  • Memo No. 1060/Secy/BCW/7P-63/2024, dated 07.08.2026 (read together with the first memo)

Calendar check: 8 October 2026 is a Thursday, so the first window runs from Thursday to Sunday (11 October). The Miscellaneous Services window runs from Monday, 12 October to Friday, 16 October. Candidates should not assume the portal will be extended or reopened.

How to update your details

The Commission has prescribed this sequence for the edit option:

  1. Log in to your candidate account.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. Select Category (for OBC candidates only).
  4. Select Sub-Category from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter the Certificate Number (of the latest State NCL certificate).
  6. Enter the Issuing Authority.
  7. Enter the Date of Issuance of the certificate.
  8. Click Preview.
  9. Click Save.

Use Preview to check every field before saving, particularly the certificate number and issue date. These must match your latest State Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate.

What happens if you miss the deadline

According to the notice, if a candidate does not give OBC Sub-Category/UR Category details within the stipulated time frame, their candidature will automatically be treated as UR Category. This follows Memo No. 1060/Secy/BCW/7P-63/2024 dated 07.08.2026 of the B.C.W. Department.

The Commission adds that no further representations in this regard will be entertained under any circumstances.

Who should act

  • OBC candidates of the four examinations listed above.
  • Candidates who already submitted their details during the earlier window (opened 06.09.2026) should check whether they need to do anything further. The notice does not say, so confirm on the official portal.
  • Candidates who did not update their details earlier should do so as soon as their window opens.

Practical tips

  • Keep your latest State NCL certificate ready before the window opens, with the certificate number, issuing authority and date of issuance.
  • Don’t wait for the last day. Portals tend to slow down near deadlines.
  • Save and keep a record of the confirmation after you click Save.
  • Check the official WBPSC website for updates, and verify the notice itself rather than relying on social media posts.
