About Cochin Shipyard Limited
Cochin Shipyard Limited is a listed Mini Ratna Schedule ‘A’ public sector company under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. It is India’s largest shipbuilding and ship-repair yard, known for building the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant alongside commercial vessels and repair contracts for the Navy and merchant fleet. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office. A year of apprenticeship here gives an engineering or diploma passout hands-on exposure inside one of the country’s largest heavy-engineering worksites.

How This CSL Apprenticeship Compares
This notification is open only to candidates domiciled in Kerala — a restriction stated directly in the notice. Not every PSU apprenticeship intake works this way: some central PSU drives under the NATS scheme are open to graduates and diploma holders from any state, while others, including this one, restrict seats to the state where the plant sits. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office. Candidates outside Kerala can browse other current government job openings across India that carry no domicile restriction, and can also watch for CSL’s separate ITI Trade and Rigger Apprentice notifications, which are sometimes announced with different eligibility. Readers from West Bengal, Sikkim, North Bengal and the North East are not eligible for this particular vacancy.

Selection Process
Selection has no written exam or interview. It runs through three stages, in this order:
- Shortlisting — based only on the percentage of marks obtained in the basic prescribed qualification for each discipline. Only Kerala-domicile candidates are considered.
- Tie-break — if two or more candidates score the same percentage, the candidate senior in year of passing ranks higher; if the passing year is also identical, the candidate senior in age (by date of birth) ranks higher.
- Certificate verification and medical fitness — shortlisted candidates must bring original certificates (age, qualification, percentage of marks, category, disability certificate if applicable) along with self-attested copies. Failing to produce originals leads to rejection. Candidates who clear verification are provisionally selected against the notified seats in order of merit/reservation, subject to medical fitness.
Call letters for certificate verification are sent only by e-mail and published on the CSL website — not by post — so candidates should check their registered e-mail and the CSL careers update page regularly.

Documents to keep ready
- Original certificates for age, qualification, percentage of marks, category (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD, if applicable)
- Self-attested photocopies of all the above
- Equivalency Certificate, if the qualification held is not directly listed in the notification
- The exact mark sheet that matches the marks entered online — a mismatch between entered marks and the uploaded mark sheet leads to summary rejection
Canvassing in any form leads to disqualification, and only Indian nationals can apply. Submitting an application, or receiving a call letter, does not by itself confirm eligibility or selection.

Should You Apply?
This notification suits Kerala-domicile Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders (2022–2026 passouts) who want a full year of structured, paid exposure inside a large public sector shipyard, with a fixed monthly stipend and no application fee. This is added context, not part of the official notification. Confirm with the hiring office. It does not suit candidates outside Kerala — domicile is checked before anything else — or candidates who need a confirmed job at the end of the year: CSL states plainly that finishing the apprenticeship creates no claim to employment. Selection depends only on marks in the qualifying degree or diploma, so a strong academic percentage is the only lever a candidate has; there is no test or interview to prepare for. Candidates should also budget for their own travel and stay, since CSL provides neither. For a Kerala-domicile fresher building an early record in shipbuilding or heavy engineering, this is a reasonable one-year option — not a substitute for a permanent recruitment drive.
