The Indian Air Force released the Information Brochure for Agniveervayu Non-Combatant, Intake 01/2027, on its official recruitment portal, iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in, under the Agnipath Scheme. Applications must reach the prescribed address by 17 August 2026. This is for unmarried male candidates who want a short, uniformed government job in the Air Force without a written technical exam.

Instead, it lists more than 130 Air Force stations across India, each open for the Hospitality stream, the Housekeeping stream, or both — the full station-wise list appears later in this article. Candidates can apply to any one station of their choice, from Ladakh to Tamil Nadu, including several stations in West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. Candidates should check all details in the article below.

About the organisation

The Indian Air Force is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces, operating under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. It is responsible for securing Indian airspace and for aerial operations during conflict. Agniveervayu Non-Combatant personnel support this mission through Hospitality and Housekeeping duties at Air Force stations, working alongside trained airmen. This is added context, not part of the official notification; confirm current organisational details with the official website. For a candidate, the appointment offers four years of uniformed service, a fixed pay structure, medical cover, and an Agniveer Skill Certificate at the end of the engagement.

Local context / how this recruitment compares

This recruitment is open pan-India, and the region this site covers most closely — Darjeeling, North Bengal, Sikkim and the North East — has a real presence in the station list. The brochure names Air Force stations at Kalaikunda, Barrackpore, Salua and Panagarh in West Bengal, and at Hasimara, Bagdogra and Kurseong in the Darjeeling–Dooars belt of North Bengal. It also lists Shillong and Shillong Peak in Meghalaya, and Jorhat, Chabua, Guwahati, Kumbhirgram, Mohanbari, Missamari, Dinjan and Digaru in Assam, plus Dimapur in Nagaland — all part of North East Jobs coverage on this site.

This is added context, not part of the official notification, confirm with the official website: none of the 134 stations listed fall inside Sikkim itself, so candidates from Sikkim will need to send their application to a station in a neighbouring state such as West Bengal or Assam. Compared with a typical single-location state PSC vacancy, this recruitment gives a candidate the flexibility to apply to almost any station in the country, though the trade-off is that stream availability — and, once published, vacancy numbers — differs station by station.

Vacancy details and salary

Eligibility

The same eligibility standard applies to both the Hospitality and Housekeeping streams — the brochure does not set different qualifications by stream, only a different skill assessment at the Stream Suitability Test stage (covered below).

Age limit

Candidates must be born between 1 January 2005 and 1 July 2009 (both days inclusive). If a candidate clears every stage of selection, the upper age limit on the date of enrolment must not exceed 22 years. Candidates can check their exact date-of-birth eligibility window using the site’s Age Calculator.

Marital status

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible. Candidates must give an undertaking not to marry during the four-year engagement period; anyone who marries during this period will be dismissed from service. Only unmarried Agniveervayu Non-Combatant personnel are eligible for later selection to the regular cadre as NC(E).

Educational qualification

Candidates must have passed Matriculation (Class 10th)/equivalent from an Education Board recognised by the Central Government, a State Government, or a Union Territory, as on the date of registration. This is a 10th pass eligible vacancy.

Mandatory medical standards

ParameterStandard
HeightMinimum acceptable height 152 cm
ChestMinimum expansion of 5 cm
WeightProportionate to height and age, as applicable in the IAF
Visual Acuity6/36 in each eye, correctable to 6/9 in each eye; colour vision CP-III; refractive error not exceeding ±3.5D including astigmatism; corneal surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable
HearingShould be able to hear a forced whisper from 6 metres, with each ear tested separately
DentalHealthy gums, minimum 14 dental points; dental implants and orthodontic appliances (fixed or removable) are not accepted
General HealthFit for the Air Force, of normal anatomy, free from active/latent or acute/chronic medical or surgical disability, communicable disease, infection or skin ailments
Body TattooPermanent tattoos are not permitted, except on the inner forearm, back of the hand, or tribal-custom tattoos; offensive, obscene or racist tattoos are barred anywhere on the body
GenderPredominant opposite-gender physical characteristics, or a history of gender reassignment surgery, will lead to rejection

The brochure states these are broad guidelines only; final medical fitness is decided by the Medical Board. Candidates who consume narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances banned under the NDPS Act 1985 are disqualified — the IAF follows a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and substance abuse. Only Sikh candidates, whose religion prohibits cutting hair or shaving, are permitted to grow hair and retain a beard and moustache.

Selection process

Selection for Agniveervayu Non-Combatant runs through four stages, and each stage qualifies a candidate for the next. Every phase after the written test is physically demanding, so candidates should prepare for the run and the strength tests before the written exam itself.

  1. Written Test (Phase I) — Common for both streams, held at the station where the candidate applied. Two papers, both at Class 10 level: General English (15 marks, minimum pass 5) and General Knowledge (15 marks, minimum pass 5). A candidate needs at least 15 out of 30 marks overall (50%) to qualify.
  2. Physical Fitness Test — PFT (Phase II) — Only candidates who pass the written test appear. First, a height check (minimum 152 cm; candidates below this are disqualified from further tests). Then PFT-I: a 1.6 km run to be completed within 7 minutes (extra time applies at high-altitude stations — nil up to 5,000 feet, +30 seconds from 5,001–9,000 feet, +120 seconds from 9,001–12,000 feet). Then PFT-II: 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 20 squats, each within 1 minute, with rest breaks of 10 minutes after the run, 2 minutes after the push-ups, and 2 minutes after the sit-ups.
  3. Stream Suitability Test — SST (Phase III) — Qualifying in nature. For Hospitality, candidates are assessed on cooking-related skills, kitchen hygiene, and serving food/water. For Housekeeping, candidates are assessed on cleaning, gardening and washing utensils, plus at least one of: laundry and ironing, hair-cutting, leatherwork, or tailoring. Unwillingness to perform a task tied to the chosen stream leads to disqualification at this stage.
  4. Medical Examination (Phase IV) — Conducted by an Air Force medical team as per IAF medical standards, including blood haemogram, urine tests, biochemistry (blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney and liver function), chest X-ray and ECG. The Recruiting Medical Officer’s decision is final; there is no provision for review after an unfit declaration.

Candidates must carry their Aadhaar card, a character certificate (not older than six months, signed by a Gazetted Officer, Panchayat Officer, or school/college principal with office seal), and their original Class 10 marksheet and passing certificate to the written test venue for verification — internet copies and mobile-phone photo printouts of certificates are not accepted, though DigiLocker-verified certificates are allowed provisionally. Mobile phones, smart watches and other electronic gadgets are not permitted inside the examination hall, and candidates who do not report before the cut-off time on their admit card will not be allowed to sit the test. Candidates should be prepared to stay at their own expense if the PFT is held the day after the written test — no travelling allowance or daily allowance (TA/DA) is paid at any stage.

Application fee

Application fee details are not mentioned in the official notification. Check the official website for updates.

How to apply

  1. Visit the official web portal: iafrecruitment.edcil.co.in.
  2. Open the “Agniveervayu Non-Combatant” tab, then the “Application Forms” sub-tab.
  3. Download the blank application form and the guidelines to fill it.
  4. Fill the form by hand, in capital letters only, and write only one stream — Hospitality or Housekeeping.
  5. Paste one self-attested, recent passport-size colour photo (not older than six months) on the top right corner of the form, taken while holding a black slate with the candidate’s name and the date written on it in white chalk. Keep two extra copies of the same photo for enrolment.
  6. Attach the required documents (checklist below).
  7. Attach a self-addressed envelope with a ₹10 stamp affixed.
  8. Send the completed form by ordinary post or drop box to one of the addresses listed in the official brochure, matching the station and stream the candidate wants to apply for. Copy the exact postal address from the official brochure PDF when addressing the envelope, since a single wrong line can misdirect a physical application.
  9. Ensure the form reaches the chosen address on or before 17 August 2026.

Applications not in the prescribed format, received after the due date, incomplete, or sent as multiple applications by the same candidate will be rejected in full.

Documents to keep ready

  • Class 10th/Matriculation mark sheet and passing certificate (self-attested copy)
  • Self-attested copy of Aadhaar card (candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya are exempted and may use another valid ID)
  • Recent passport-size colour photograph in the prescribed black-slate format (see step 5 above)
  • Consent certificate signed by parent/legal guardian (for candidates below 18 years) or self-signed consent (for candidates above 18 years)
  • Two postcard-size photographs of any body tattoo (close-up and distant view), only if the candidate has one
  • Self-addressed envelope with a ₹10 stamp
  • Certificate from a Chief Administrative Officer/Senior Administrative Officer — optional, only if the candidate’s father is deceased, retired, or a serving Air Force person

Should you apply?

This suits an unmarried male candidate who is at least 10th pass, meets the height, vision, hearing and dental standards above, and is comfortable committing to hands-on Hospitality or Housekeeping work rather than a desk role. This is added context, not part of the official notification, confirm with the official website: the written test is at Class 10 level, so the academic bar is modest — the real filter is the physical fitness test and the medical examination, where candidates with no serious health issues and reasonable fitness have a realistic chance. It does not suit someone looking for a guaranteed long, pensionable career: the engagement is fixed at four years, only up to 25% of each batch is later offered a permanent NC(E) slot, and there is no gratuity or pension — only a one-time Seva Nidhi payout. The honest trade-off is this: a candidate gets a fixed income, medical cover, a large insurance cover, and a skill certificate for four years, in exchange for no guarantee of a long-term Air Force career and manual trade duties for the full engagement period.

FAQs

What is the in-hand salary of Agniveervayu Non-Combatant in the first year?

In Year 1, the customised monthly package is ₹30,000, of which 70% (₹21,000) is paid in hand and 30% (₹9,000) goes into the Agniveer Corpus Fund, matched by an equal Government contribution. The corpus amount is paid out as the Seva Nidhi package at the end of the four-year engagement.

Can candidates without an Aadhaar card apply for Agniveervayu Non-Combatant?

Yes, in limited cases. Candidates must generally carry their Aadhaar card for identity verification at the selection test. Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya are exempted from this requirement and may carry any other valid ID proof instead.

Can Agniveervayu Non-Combatant become permanent in the Indian Air Force?

Up to 25% of each specific batch may be offered enrolment in the regular cadre as NC(E) after completing the four-year engagement, based on objective criteria including performance. This is added context, not part of the official notification: this is a real but limited path, not a guarantee — no Agniveervayu Non-Combatant has a right to further enrolment, and the final decision rests with the IAF.

What happens if a candidate does not clear the Physical Fitness Test on the same day as the written test?

The Physical Fitness Test is normally held on the same day as the written test. If it cannot be conducted the same day, it is held the next day, and candidates must arrange their own stay at their own expense — no travelling allowance or daily allowance (TA/DA) is paid for this or any other stage of selection.
